Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1991
The Toccoa House Story
Proprietor Greg Spencer initially discovered the Blue Ridge area on a backpacking trip to the Cohutta Wilderness in the 1980’s. Soon after he was awestruck by the experience of kayaking the Ocoee River. A short time later, enamored of the area, Greg embarked on a land purchasing mission that led him to 12 acres of undeveloped acreage.
Why the Owner Chose Blue Ridge
Amazed by the beauty of the Toccoa River and the inspiring views of the surrounding mountains, Greg wasted no time in securing what is now known as the Toccoa House Properties.
During the 1990’s Greg built a small cabin, The Riverside Cabin, on the Toccoa River, and envisioned a larger house that he later built on the ridge above: The Toccoa House, completed in 2000. Next came The Carriage House in 2002, and the in-ground, seasonally heated swimming pool in 2007. Our newest addition, The Grey Heron House, was completed in late 2007.
Dana is a native of North Georgia and brings Southern Charm to each Guest Experience, handling the Reservation Process, Housekeeping and Custom Arrangements.
Our pets and property mascots, Budrow, Lily and Bobby Jo (BJ is named for the Blue Ridge couple, Bobby and Jo, who gave him to us, thank you so much!!), may greet you if they happen to be on the property when you visit. While they often bark, what they really want is for you to pet them!
Thank You So Much For Visiting,
Dana and Greg
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
Since our 12 acre property spans over 1000 feet of Toccoa River frontage, and consists of a peninsula created by a horseshoe bend in the river, we are surrounded by water on three sides. We are close to town, yet secluded and private. We offer four distinct and private rental cabins. The cabins are all walking distance from each other and can be booked together, making Toccoa House Properties an ideal destination for large groups. Combined, our cabins sleep 40 (13 bedrooms, 11 full baths, 2 half baths).
The Toccoa House is our largest accommodation, with three levels and room for 18 to sleep comfortably. The Grey Heron House is our next largest cabin, sleeping 14 on three levels. The Carriage House is our mid-sized rental cabin which sleeps 6. The Riverside Cabin is our smallest cabin, with room for two right on the banks of the Toccoa River

Spent the week before Christmas at the cabin. This was our 8th year enjoying the Taccoa house! We have a wonderful time each year. The accomodations are always wonderful! The kitchen is perfectly equipped! We have been going to the mountains for Christmas for over 15 years; since we found the cabin we feel like it is coming home each year!!!

Our family of eight adults spent a week in mid December the Taccoa House, and will do so again soon if possible. The property is fantastic, as is the house itself. Very nicely decorated, and Christmas decorations as well. We felt like we were completely secluded and on our own, which is what we wanted. Allowing pets was a big plus as well. These owners do a great job with upkeep of the property. A must stay...unless you're trying to go when we go again...

Great House For Our Large Family

Our family recently convened from different parts of the Southeast at Toccoa House for a wonderful October vacation. The location on the Toccoa River is ideal, and the views in all directions are beautiful. We loved having private areas including our own baths. The playroom was our main gathering place, and we really enjoyed the big screen TV, the pool table, the huge dining room table, and the hot tub. We hiked all the trails around the property and kayaked down the river to Copper Hill. Since we cooked all our meals, my only recommendation would be some updated cookware and sharper knives. However, it is a great house with every amenity a large group could want. We definitely would come back.
Owner response:Thanks and we're glad you loved the place. We, too, noticed that a few of the pans were getting a bit worn and have replaced them, along with sharpening all of the knives.

This was our second trip to the Toccoa House and it fits our needs perfectly. There are 8 of us ladies ranging in age from 49 to 64 so we need the space, sleeping quarters and bathrooms. Everything was in good working order and the cabin was very clean. All beds were comfortable and the cabin was stocked well for our needs. The weather was sunny and nice and we did a lot of walking but it was too cool for the pool, which we probably wouldn't have used anyway, as we just like to walk and talk. WIth the weather so nice, we played lots of BINGO on the back deck and yes, you can definitely expect us back.

We love this place so much, we keep coming back year after year. The kitchen is fantastic, and the table is great for dinner with larger groups. It's secluded, even when there are other renters on property you never see them. All the beds are very comfy, and having plenty of bathrooms makes getting ready in the mornings a breeze. We cannot wait to stay again.

My family enjoyed the cabin, except for all the fines that would occur if furniture was not back in place , that was kind of silly. Also I thought from the pictures the river was right near the cabin, it was very hard to get to and the view was obstructed. The main porch should be screened and a roof over head, it would have been used more. All in all it was a nice place for a family reunion.

We have stayed at the Toccoa House before and loved our time there! The photos do not do the house justice! It is beatiful and very well maintained. Our family had a great time - would love to visit again sometime! Greg and Dana were great about answering emails very quickly, no problems at all! Everything was perfect! Thanks for your great southern hospitality! Smith family

WE HAVE VISITED THE TOCCOA HOUSE PROPERTY TWICE AND HAVE LOVED EVERY MIN. THE HOUSES ARE CLEAN, HAVE PLENTY OF EVERYTHING YOU NEED. I LIKE THE TOCCOA HOUSE FOR MY FAMILY THE BEST BECAUSE IT IS CLOSEST TO THE POOL. THE ONLY THING I WOULD LIKE BETTER WOULD BE A SCREENED PORCH AND MORE LIGHT ON IT. CAN'T WAIT UNTIL WE CAN VISIT AGAIN! MAGGIE FROM SOUTH GA.
