  • 8 Weeks in Casa Amelia

"We spent the last 8 weeks at Casa Amelia and had a lovely time. This home is very nice and has all of the modern conveniences anyone could wish for. We had more than enough room for our family of 4 and the home could very easily accommodate two families. I really liked that my kids were sleeping in the room directly above me and I could hear them if need be. Often colonial houses are spread out making it difficult to hear little ones. We fell in love with the location as it is close to everything. We walked everywhere in the city and only took a tuk tuk home in the evening when it was late. This home is in a very nice part of town with restaurants, tiendas and bakeries nearby (the main grocery is on the other side of town, but still an easy walk). A real highlight for us is that there is a bi-lingual Montessori school (Oxford) just across the street. They have a very flexible enrollment and take pre-school kids through age 10. Additionally very near is a great Gym for working out (La Fabrica) and a wonderful Spanish school ( Sevilla) all within a 5-8 minute walk ( both off of 1st avenida). While the home is not in a gated community we always felt very safe and comfortable coming and going. The neighbors and the house ladies who live next door and look after the home were super helpful as are the owners of this home who live in the US. They were more than accommodating and helped to make our visit wonderful. Antigua is a lively little city, so there will be some city noise. Buses, people, cars, firecrackers and sirens are a common occurrence. For us it was all a part of the Central American charm. This is a great place to make a home base to explore the region and get a real feel for the culture."

  • Perfect in Every Way

"We stayed 5 nights in this wonderful townhouse. We were within walking distance of downtown and all the wonderful restaurants. The owner supplied a list of places to eat and visit that was spot on. The gate attendants were helpful with any question we had and understood our broken Spanish and hand gestures. We look forward to returning soon."

  • best part of our vacation

"We loved the beauty and peacefulness of this place which was even better in real life than online, and what made it really special was the owner, Rene, who was so helpful and accommodating . He picked us up at the airport, stopped for us to get groceries and made sure we knew the house systems before he left. He really made the vacation for us. Chusita was a lovely person as well and brought us tortillas and avocados some mornings. As far as side trips, we went to Lake Atitlan which was well worth the trip (we stayed 3 days and 2 nights) but I would recommend a private driver as our shuttle driver on the way back took too many chances and made us very nervous. The owner has recommendations for good drivers. We also hiked the Pacaya Volcano and though we are in decent shape in our 70's, found it very difficult. (The others in our group were at least 40 years younger and seemed to have no problem. ) Antigua was great and we had fun taking the chicken bus right outside the gate, usually taking cabs back home at night. We have so many happy memories of this relaxing oasis with gorgeous orchids blooming on the trees by the patio. You can't go wrong with Rene as your host!"

  • Stunningly Beautiful

"We stayed in this house and Matt's other house in Panajachel. Both were incredibly beautiful, clean, well stocked and comfortable. Our stay here was very relaxing, and I loved sitting by the gorgeous river and reading. The property was bigger than I expected and incredibly landscaped. I can't say enough how beautiful it is here. Matt and Hector (property manager) were a pleasure to work with."
