About Joe Santana
We were married 11 years ago just outside Smokey Mtn National Park and have been in love with the South East mountain ranges ever since. A friend of ours turned us onto a place on VRBO they had stayed at. We booked it and have been visiting the Rabun Gap/Clayton area every year for the last 10 years. We have had a wonderful experience with VRBO in the past, so decided to take a chance and purchase our own piece of the mountains. While we wish we could spend everyday there, we can not yet afford to do so. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Joe Santana purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Joe Santana chose Rabun Gap
We have the fondest memories of Black Rock Mountain State Park and Lake. With Wolffork Valley being so close, we had been looking at homes there for quite some time. Once we arrived at "Take A Paws" and took in the view, we instantly knew that this was our paradise. The view, the rustic fireplace, everything just spoke to us. We hope you feel the same way.

Wintry week-end at "Take a Paws"
Charming cottage. Nice gathering area. Nicely equipped kitchen. Great view out back. Beds were comfortable. Owner and local manager of property extremely responsive and helpful - especially when we were caught in the wide-spread winter storm. I guess that was my only worry. I do not know much about mountain winter weather. If we had lost power - I am not sure about managing without experience. There are back-up gas heaters but I am not familiar with all of that. Luckily we did not lose power. I will say I heard snow plows coming up the mountain parkway at midnight so that was reassuring. I cooked a full meal. I would recommend a couple of accessories - a pie server or wedged shaped spatula. A meat thermometer. Small things. It was nice to have many basics in groceries there. THe spices, salt, pepper, paper towels, etc. We had a small tree - and that worked well. All in all - great place. The adult kids really liked the cottagey mountain charm. It was nice to have a mantel to actually hang stockings. Also, I liked the pellet stove because I could make it more warm in the area where I was working - and let others be cooler. Also there is a coffee pot that grinds beans. I should have asked about that - and I would have brought the beans. There is another coffee pot for pre-ground coffee. I was able to buy a huge amount of holiday groceries at Ingles - down on the main street and then buy a very high quality cut of meat at the little market - Andy - which was right around the corner from Ingles. Ingles also had nice meats - I was just looking for a certain cut. That took a huge worry off my mind after I was able to purchase those so easily.
Cabin was great, but the hospitality from Joe and Danielle was what really made the trip wonderful!!
Beautiful views from the cabin, owners went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful-
Great cabin and the owners make sure you are well taken care of during your stay- very easy and relaxful transaction.
What an incredible stay. Waking up to coffee and views for days. Day trips close by with lots to do! Then evenings back lighting the fire pit and taking in evening views. A truly magical place. Plenty of room for our two families. We used the second house as a teen retreat although we were all always together on the back patio toasting marshmallows, grilling, and chilling! Our small Pomerania was so happy roaming the well fenced yard but mostly staying by our side in a pet friendly home. We luckily, did not have a bear sighting. House was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed to be comfortable for four evenings! We did bring extra TP, paper towels, spices, and garbage bages but much to our surprise, they did have it all! I do recommend brining extra of all tho depending on how much your family will use 😂😂
Home owners and their friends were always a text away even tho we did not need a thing, it was nice to know they were there if we did. Wi fi was great and we even watched our favorite football sports teams while we were there on the large flat screen and never missed the view with how the TV was situated!
We recommend "Take a Paws" Cabin with all our hearts! We all had a fantastic time! Can't wait to go again!!!!
Driving up to this cabin revealed a beautiful view and thoughtful outdoor spaces by which to enjoy it. The owner was very helpful and kind, and I appreciated his checkins to make sure we were enjoying our stay. I will be coming back to this cabin. If you have any doubt about renting this cabin, you should let it go because it exceeded my expectations, and I am a spoiled traveler with high expectations.
Great Vacation Property
We loved staying at this property. It had a wonderful view of the mountains and was peaceful and serene. The property is fully fenced which we loved for our two dogs. There was plenty of parking area, too. The house itself was very nice and well cared for. We only used the main house since there was just 2 of us. The kitchen was well equipped with all the essentials needed for a week's stay. The deck is enormous and loved sitting on it when the rain would cooperate. The guest house is very nice with a covered carport area between the main house and the guest house. Joe was so easy to work with in reserving the property and checking on us twice while there. I so appreciate him! We plan to go back to this property next year with extended family if we are able. Thanks, Joe, for everything! We'll be back!
Beautiful setting yet close to Clayton so we could get quickly get to town.
Our dogs loved this place because they could roam at will. We will be back. Hurricane Florence joined us on early on Sunday morning but the view as just pretty as the rain rolled in. A perfect place for us!
