About Joe Santana
We were married 11 years ago just outside Smokey Mtn National Park and have been in love with the South East mountain ranges ever since. A friend of ours turned us onto a place on VRBO they had stayed at. We booked it and have been visiting the Rabun Gap/Clayton area every year for the last 10 years. We have had a wonderful experience with VRBO in the past, so decided to take a chance and purchase our own piece of the mountains. While we wish we could spend everyday there, we can not yet afford to do so. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Joe Santana purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Joe Santana chose Rabun Gap
We have the fondest memories of Black Rock Mountain State Park and Lake. With Wolffork Valley being so close, we had been looking at homes there for quite some time. Once we arrived at "Take A Paws" and took in the view, we instantly knew that this was our paradise. The view, the rustic fireplace, everything just spoke to us. We hope you feel the same way.

From the time we drove up and saw the view, we knew that this was going to be a great week! The house is beautiful and very well stocked with everything you could need for your stay, especially if you’re cooking! The layout is really nice and easily maneuvered by my dad’s scooter. All of the rooms were nice sized and our party of 6 had tons of room! We especially enjoyed the screened-in porch, the deck with the most amazing view, and the firepit! The location is also great! Secluded, yet close to so many sites. There’s a state park, great for hiking, just down the road. Tubing and rafting close by. We also ate in Dillard and Franklin, and made day trips to Asheville and the Highlands.
The owners were super - checking in with us prior to and throughout the trip to make sure all was good.
Our family cannot wait to go again and definitely want to stay at “Take a Paws”!
Incredible. Hi 👋 fives on landscaping
Pictures do not do this property justice my kids and i pulled into the driveway mouths agape! We brought 3 pups amd it was perfect for them. My daughter and 2 year old grand baby stayed in the guest house was perfect for them. Than You Joe we will be back!
Wonderful place to stay in the mountains, view is amazing, owners extremely friendly and helpful!!
Had a great time at this cabin over Memorial Day weekend!!This was supposed to be a motorcycle ride through the Georgia mountains hunting waterfalls, but the weather did not cooperate so we had to drive our cars, no problem, glad we did or we may have drowned riding home!! The cabin was amazing, views spectacular, owners and their friends were extremely friendly and helpful.Even our uninvited guest, Sexy Sadie as we called her, a very friendly female hound dog was fun to have around, we considered her our watch dog.Hope she finds her way back home, think the storms must have caused her to get scared and lost in the woods! But I do believe we left her in good hands!!
With all the rain we had every waterfall we visited was roaring, even got to see a wedding party hiking to one of the falls, with bride and groom in full tux and bridal gown, good luck to you guys!Overall we made the most of our trip bikes or not and will definitely put Take a Paws at the top of my list to visit again in the future. Thanks again to Joe,Danielle,Dennis and Mandi for a wonderful time.
Awesome Vacation at Take a Paws
We had a wonderful stay at Take a Paws in Rabun Gap, GA. We had 6 people and 5 dogs. The dogs loved the fenced in yard and took full advantage of their freedom. The yard is well secured which made it easy to relax with our family and dogs. The cabin was excellent, plenty of room for all of us to have our own space, it was a home away from home. Contacting the owner was easy, and we were able to communicate with ease. We felt right at home. The view is spectaular. Would highly recommend Take a Paws.
Stunning view, beautiful home, wonderful retreat for family and our pups!
This was the perfect place for our family. The view is breathtaking and there is ample deck/porch space to enjoy it. We spent a lot of time in the rocking chairs and on the swing in the screened porch, and spent an evening / night sitting around the fire pit.
The indoor space is very comfortable. The layout is well-designed with plenty of common space for spending time together, and plenty of beds and bathrooms for a large family. The house is secluded (the property feels very private and “away from it all”), but it is not disconnected (there is good WiFi, television, easily accessible outlets, etc). The shower in the guest house is pretty tiny - it was not a problem for us, but just something that is good to know. Also, 3 of the four bedrooms are upstairs- again, this wasn’t a problem for us, but something to keep in mind if your group has mobility issues.
The house is very dog-friendly and we were so happy to be able to bring our two dogs! The property is completely fenced in (with a really good fence that has chicken wire and boards all the way flush with the ground all the way around it - we have a small dog and I was never concerned that she would be able to get out), so it was great to be able to let the dogs romp around outside without worrying they would wander too far into the woods. They had so much fun exploring.
The house is also in an excellent location. It is a short drive from both Clayton and Mountain City where there are lots of good local places to eat and shop. And it is right next to Black Rock Mountain State Park with hiking trails and a lake. There is also an ingles grocery store and a Wal-Mart pretty close by if needed.
Joe is so nice and was always very responsive via text. Communication was very quick and easy throughout the whole process.
My entire family commented multiple times on how much they liked the property. We will definitely be coming back here the next time we want to take a trip to the mountains!
The house was awesome the view was beautiful great place for just getting away or having a family reunion
