Cozy Comfortable House, Full Back Yard Backs Up To UNC Woods, Ultra Convenient

Totally renovated and redesigned in 2016, this one level, 3 BR, 1.5 bath home is in the walkable friendly Elkin Hills neighborhood off of Airport Rd., on busline, 1.4 miles north of Franklin Street and downtown area, 1.75 to UNC Hospital. New bamboo floors are in main living area and kitchen. Beautiful and spacious updated and fully equipped kitchen has custom maple cabinets, red cedar bar top, quality appliances and cookware and is open into living room. Bedroom #1 is a day room that adjoins living room thru 6' pocket doors which may stay open or can be closed to serve as a bedroom. The master and third bedroom have new carpet. The updated full bathroom is tiled with walk in shower. The master bedroom has an adjoining half bath .

Master has a Queen , BR 2 has a full, BR/dayroom has a full sleeper sofa

One TV is in the living room. Internet provided.

All linens provided. Gas Heat. Washer Dryer.

Fenced back yard with patio. No pets allowed at this time, but we are confident in the near future we will allow one pet under 40 pounds, with a $100 fee. Entire yard landscaping in progress, with planting and details nearly complete.

Owner is Ronnie Parks, a 1974 UNC graduate who currently lives in Chapel Hill. Questions about the area are welcome.

The house is named Katydid after my beautiful mother Kathryn, and the sound of July insect that sings through our summer nights.

About Ronnie Parks

Durham native born bred and dead Tarheel. BFA 74, MFA 84

UNC. I am a graphic artist/musician, finally retired from owning

Archer Graphics, now run by my son. I know the area well - Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Durham, so would be happy to guide you where you would like to go, or chat with you about things to do.

My children are still in the area and my parents have both recently moved on. Dad was a Tarheel class of 1944.

Why Ronnie Parks chose Chapel Hill

Bought as an investment and possible future home, when I no longer can handle living in the woods in rural Orange County. The location on the bus line allows immediate access to campus, and to me it is walkable, as is the neighborhood. I like the thought of being able to get to town and campus without driving. It is near the center of town, so easy shot to 40 , Hillsborough, Pittsboro, Durham .

What makes this house unique

This is a friendly quiet neighborhood in my hometown. There are plenty of walkers and neighbors out and about. Those unfamiliar with the area will find endless natural beauty , hiking trails, fine restaurants in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Durham, great music and show venues, including the ArtsCenter, Cats Cradle in Carrboro. Easy shopping at University Place , natural foods at Weaver Street Market, Whole Foods, and Carrboro Farmers Market. The Orange County Visitors Bureau is on West Franklin St for much more information about local opportunities. The UNC campus is outstanding in beauty and the constant activities there can be viewed at goheels.com.

Comfortable Private Retreat in Chapel Hill

Our family had a wonderful extended stay here. The owner is great, very responsive and helpful in assisting us with questions about the area. The home is newly remodeled, and nestled a nice small community just a short distance from downtown. It’s very convenient to the university and the food and shopping on Franklin. This home is an excellent choice if your looking for a comfortable private vacation rental in the Chapel Hill area.

Perfect for us

This was a perfect small house for our 6 week stay in Chapel Hill. Everything was clean and ready for us upon our arrival. Everything you need for cooking..except food...is here! Stores, shops, malls are all nearby. Ronnie is a terrific landlord...even brought us a lovely bouquet of flowers. Thanks, Ronnie. We will definitely rent this property again!

Beautiful and charming

This house was great! Everything was new, beautiful, easy to use and comfortable. We stayed nearly two weeks and felt like it was home. We especially enjoyed the huge backyard with a view of the woods and deer. And the owner event left us some food from the farmers market and copies of his CDs. Convenient to anything we needed in Chapel Hill, I would stay again anytime.

This house is in a quiet, family oriented neighborhood, and is not suitable for parties or large groups.
It is intended to be used for families, couples, or alumni visiting UNC , UNC hospitals , or the Orange County area.
Graduation weekend in May will have a higher rate than the standard posted, and will have a 5 night minimum.
Check in time is 3pm. Check out time is 11. This could be flexible based on whether there is a same day tenant changeover.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
