Though the big wooded lot gives a secluded feel to this light and airy A-frame, it's only a ten to fifteen minute drive from here to good restaurants and just a short walk to the Waterfront on Lake Oconee Marina. You'll find much to do here all year round. From the back porch, enjoy the quiet sunrise over the lake with your morning coffee. Enjoy WOW views and boats occasionally going by from our gazebo's 'back porch' swing. Nature lovers may like our visiting ospreys, herons, egrets and the occasional beaver. There's a sandy 'beach box' with stairs into the water and the glider on our private dock is a favorite roost for sunbathers and evening sunset watchers. Paddle our canoe to a nearby cove. If its warm, swim, float, fish, boat or picnic. When the weather gets cooler, our fireplace and semi-enclosed hot tub add to the 'cabin in the woods' feel. (Seasonally available.) Cable HDTV and WiFi are provided. Guests of all descriptions and their well-behaved pets are most welcome!
Please note: our electric boat lift was hit by a severe storm and it is currently unavailable. But there are cleats to tie up on the dock and the water there is always 5'-6' deep.
IN THE AREA
As mentioned, the Waterfront on Lake Oconee Marina and its public boat ramp are only a short walk away from the property. You'll find Butt's BBQ for sale there in summer. Rental companies will deliver pontoons, speedboats and jet skis to the marina or you can 'put in' your own boat there. Its a very short ride around the peninsula to our private dock.
Situated halfway between Atlanta and Augusta, Lake Oconee is the perfect place for recreation and relaxation. There is a Native American rock formation called ‘Rock Hawk’ that has hiking trails about a 15-minute drive away. Several popular golf courses, an archery range and an equestrian center are in the area, too.
Click the 'map' tab and zoom out or in to see where we're located. Nearby towns, including Eatonton and Greensboro provide local shops, boutiques, antiques, decorative accessories and jewelry. Eatonton was the birthplace of Joel Chandler Harris, known as 'Uncle Remus,' and there is a small museum there. You’ll be a 10-15 minute drive from a wide range of restaurants and shops; about one hour from Sanford Stadium in Athens; and one and a half hours from both downtown Atlanta and the Augusta National Golf Course. In Spring, during Master's Week, many come to Eatonton's half dozen courses to enjoy the event with fellow golf enthusiasts. Some even let the family play at the lake while they drive to Augusta to watch the event up close.
This light-filled A-frame has three bedrooms, one of which is a large open loft with dividing curtains. (See photos.) All three have a full bath next door. There are one king, two queens and three twin beds with high-quality linens. The loft has floor room for a couple of sleeping bags or air mattresses (BYO, but 11 is about the full capacity of the house).
Our kitchen is fully-equipped with a glass-topped electric stove, full oven, refrigerator, toaster ovens, dishwasher, microwave and almost everything you need to cook and serve. There's a dining table for six to eight, a smaller table for four that can double as a desk; a picnic table for another eight to 10 and a folding table, too. On the deck, there is also a small Weber charcoal grill.
Smoking is only allowed on the decks and screened porch that surround three sides of the house. Lots of folding and other chairs make it easy to entertain out there.
At Lakeside Family Retreat, it is not our goal to provide pristine, designer-decorated rooms. We're aiming for a livable, family atmosphere where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular view and the many joys the lake has to offer. Lakeside Family Retreat is perfect for a family vacation or holiday celebration, small birthday party, bible study group, just-the-girl’s getaway, fishing retreat, or golf buddies get-together, etc.
