Vincent Van Gogh - St Remy's most famous resident - Vincent was a patient at the Saint-Paul asylum in Saint-Rémy from May 1889 until May 1890. The Asylum is a beautiful peaceful place to visit.
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I am Irish and my husband and I have been coming to France since 1991 when we first married. Every summer we holidayed in France with our 3 children in Gites rural, camp sites and self catering accommodation throughout France. We were also fortunate enough to live & work here for 2 years, send our children to school and experience French life first hand. It was always our dream to have a small place in France as an escape from our busy work lives and eventually for retirement. We visited St. Remy on a day trip in 1992 and were immediately capitivated returning to the area again and again. Eventually we were lucky enough to buy our small town house in Villa Nova which is our treasured holiday home and our retreat. We rent our home to defray the property taxes and property upkeep costs.
Why the Owner Chose St-Rémy-de-Provence, France:
We were seeking a secure holiday home in a village setting. Villa Nova is just 3 minutes walk to the local boulangerie and 5 minutes from the main 'Place de la Rebublique' and 'Eglise St. Martin'. St Remy's 'Office de Tourisme' is a leisurely 10 minutes walk. It is also within easy distance of those wonderful and well known places in Provence, Arles, Avignon, Marseilles, and the Luberon. Ski slopes at Gap and beach at Les Saints Maries de la Mer are within driving distance.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
Beautiful weather, secure private house with parking, located just 5 minutes walk from St. Remy's historic centre. Art Galleries, historic monuments and Roman History. Fresh local produce from the weekly market (Wednesdays); over 20 boulangeries to choose from; the 'Potager' across from the Church; convenient shopping. Concerts at Orange and Avignon, browsing in the antique shops of L'isle Sur La Sorgue and Loumarin; Organ recitals in Eglise St Martin; and Saturday evening mass at St Paul-de-Mausole.
