The reserve was formerly part of the Highcliffe Castle estate, and was named after a steamer boat which was present on the site in the 1800’s. Designated a nature reserve in 2005, the area preserves the natural woodland of oak and hazel, providing habitats for many species of flora, animal and birdlife, offering peaceful trails through the trees. The cliffs are located above a pleasant shingle and sandy beach, an ideal spot for families to enjoy all kinds of watersports, with wonderful views of the Isle of Wight and Christchurch Bay.
