*****

Le Relais du Vieux Beaune is located on the second floor (one floor up from the street) of a newly restored 18th century building with a private, shared courtyard set well back from the street. Just walk across the cobblestoned street in the mornings to buy your croissants at one of the town's best boulangeries. At lunch or dinner enjoy a fabulous meal at one of Beaune's many rustic bistros or Michelin starred restaurants and then retire back to your French pied-a-terre for a fabulous sleep in our top-of-the-line beds made up with high quality linens.

Beaune is a vibrant but peaceful town of 20,000 people which is the epicentre of the winemaking culture in Burgundy. Winetasting opportunities are literally to be found at every street corner!

Grab the French market bags we leave for you and head two blocks away to stock up at Beaune's large and wonderful twice weekly outdoor market on the stunning Place Carnot - cheeses, fruits, bread, clothes, and goodies galore.

Beaune is a medieval jewel - extremely picturesque and remarkably well-preserved. Walk around the middle age fortifcations that encircle the town or just take exquisite pleasure in sitting at one of Beaune's many cafes or in our flagstoned courtyard enjoying a sublime glass of wine or coffee.

You can take off and explore the rolling vineyards and Burgundy's famous and quaint wine villages which surround Beaune such as Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Pernand-Vergelesses by foot, bike, or car. There is a fabulous bike rental shop that helps with trip planning just a block away.

We feel our mission is to allow our guests to experience Burgundy and Beaune like a local, so we leave a ton of local information and 'insider' tips at the apartment for your perusal, as well as a special gift to welcome you to this very special part of France. Although we do not live onsite, we are always available to help you get the most out of your stay in Beaune and in Burgundy.

About Franck Germain

We are a French - Canadian couple who met and fell in love in Burgundy. I am from Victoria, BC, Canada and came to Beaune on a Rotary exchange when I was 18. During that year I met and fell madly in love with Franck, a native Burgundian from a winemaking village just outside of Beaune.

That was 18 years ago and now we have three lovely Franco-Canadian daughters, four vacation rentals in and around Beaune, and a very trans-atlantic lifestyle! Our rentals and free activity-planning service allow you to live in Burgundy like a local. We love helping our guests discover authentic France.

Franck Germain purchased this apartment in 2007

Why Franck Germain chose Burgundy

I was attending a lycee in Beaune when I met and fell in love with my husband (who also went to school there). When we lived in Burgundy between 2004-2009 my eldest daughters went to school in Beaune and our youngest daughter Clementine, was born in the Beaune hospital in one of their beautiful new O.R.s with a bay window looking out on to the sun coming up over the Burgundian vineyards. Not too shabby a way to enter ther world! Not only do we feel that Beaune is the perfect French town for our guests to enjoy and explore, but it is a place that holds a very special place in our hearts.

What makes this apartment unique

Walking across the street for some of the town's best baguettes, taking your market bags and filling them up at Beaune's extraordinary market, shopping in Beaune's unique and beautiful boutiques, enjoying a stroll around the medieval walls of the town as the sun sets or rises, reveling in a scrumptuous meal in one of Beaune's countless restaurants then strolling back home to fall into a deliciously comfortable bed, sitting on a bench in the picturesque Place Carnot watching the children ride on the ancient merry-go-round, having a winetasting in a 13th century stone cellar, going to the local cafe often enough that the waiters and the 'locals' recognize you and remember your favorite table...

Magical Beaune apartment...

  • 5 of 5

We adored our stay at Franck and Laura's lovely apartment, conveniently located a short walk from the train station in the gorgeous provincial town of Beaune. We travel regularly in France--I am a French historian--have stayed in many, many flats over the years and are delighted to say that Le Relais de Vieux Beaune ranks at the very top of our list of rental properties. There are many reasons for this: first, the owners themselves, while not on site, are incredibly available and responsive. From start to finish, communication was easy and prompt. Bernard, the caretaker, was also a delight, and showed up immediately to help when requested. Regarding pragmatics: The beds are wonderfully comfortable, there is good water pressure and ample hot water in the shower. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking implements of decent quality for cooking, glasses, wine glasses (thank you!!), bowls, mugs, and pots and pans--even tupperware for storing food. We cooked most of our meals and had an easy time doing so. We enjoyed the view from the kitchen table of the rooftops over the inner courtyard. Everything was spotlessly clean. There is a cooler to take with you for picnics (or wine purchases), and both a shopping cart and market basket which are wonderfully practical for shopping at Beaune's lovely outdoor marché and in the local shops, which are all around the corner. There are extra pillows in the living room, English books (mostly popular novels) and DVDs (we didn't use the TV), and the wifi signal was strong. There is decent space for storage, and there are small lamps for reading in every room (something often lacking in rental properties). There are two couches and one reading chair in the living room--nice to have plenty of space for friends to socialize (rentals often have seating for only two people--even when there are more beds). The apartment is airy and light, but still cool during the unexpectedly hot days due to its massive stone walls. On the one morning when it was chilly, the radiators worked well. The layout took a little getting used to (the main rooms run along the street with the kitchen and bathroom--but not toilet, in the back). With the windows open, one does hear street noise (the street is narrow so when cars go by you notice it, and one can hear neighbors across the street), but the windows are double glazed and cut sound beautifully. We loved the flat and Beaune and are already planning to return! Highly recommend!!!

Stay in the Heart of the Old City

  • 5 of 5

Le Relais du Vieux Beaune was the perfect location for exploring Beaune and the lovely countryside nearby. The apartment is clean, light and spacious inside the walled town of Beaune. It has been thoughtfully equipped and operating instructions were clear and helpful. We arrived by train and were glad we did not have the burden of parking a car. We were able to walk throughout the center of Beaune to go to the shops, restaurants and to see the amazing Hospice. And, of course, to visit some of the many tasting rooms of the local wineries. A highlight was a wine tour out into the countryside that we booked through the local tourist office. We learned an enormous amount about the various terroirs and had a private tasting. Great food at many of the local bistros and special meals at Le Cheval Noir and Le Beneton (reservations recommended for both) were memorable. The Saturday market is astonishing in its variety and a great find for beautiful table linens is the shop Laronze Decor near the Hospice. We fell in love with this part of France and, when we return, we certain to try and book Le Relais du Vieux Beaune again.

Lovely apartment!

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is lovely and VERY clean. After spending nine days in Paris on uncomfortable beds these beds were heaven! Top linens, pillows and very spacious. The road traffic outside the windows can be a nuisance but each room is provided with a fan so that helps drowned out any noise. The only thing I might suggest is cushions for the dining room chairs. They are ever so uncomfortable.

Lovely Apartment in Downtown Beaune - Felt Like a Local

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in Beaune and really enjoyed staying at Franck & Laura's apartment. It's on a quiet side street in the historic center, and easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, bakeries, wineries, grocery stores and the train station. Franck was very prompt in all his communications and provided very clear and easy directions for accessing the apartment. A plentiful supply of information is also available in the apartment to answer any questions you might have while there. It's a nice sized apartment with plenty of room, lovely furnishings, fast wifi, and lots of cable tv stations (if you need that). The beds were really comfortable, good shower, and the washer and dryer were a huge bonus for us after already being on the road for a week. Parking was very easy and never difficult to find. We spent two full days in Beaune exploring every street, garden, patisserie, and a multitude of wineries, and tourist attractions. The kitchen is well equipped, so we went to the market and the grocery a couple times and ate in. Beaune is a small town and driving in and out was really easy, so we visited lots of nearby sights, including Autun, Fontenay Abbey, Chateauneuf, and many towns along the Wine Road. We even took the train to Dijon one day (10 min walk), which was very easy and well worth a day trip. I can't think of anything I would change, except staying longer.

Wonderful Two Bedroom Apartment in the Heart of Ancient Beaune

  • 5 of 5

Laura and Franck's two bedroom apartment couldn't have been located any better to do everything in Beaune by foot, including a short walk to the train station. Beaune is an ancient walled city that is filled with amazing restaurants and attractions that make your journey along the coblestone roads a delight. Laura and Franck have created a very spacious apartment with more than enough room for two couples and it is fully equipped with everything you could want. Oh, and how great was it that there is a patisserie a few doors away that made it so convenient to get our morning pasteries and bagettes. We so enjoyed our visit of a week to this wonderful apartment and Beaune. We will treasure our memories forever and will happily recommend this apartment to our friends.

Comfortable, well thought out apartment in beautiful Beaune!

  • 5 of 5

We spent one wonderful week in Beaune at Franck and Laura's apartment. The apartment was spacious, and had all the amenities you could want - including a real, full size shower. Kitchen is well equipped and a washer and dryer were available. Since we were on a 2 week vacation, being able to do laundry was a must. The location of the apartment is convenient to the old city center of Beaune, with easy access to markets, shopping, wine tasting - everything you can think of.

Franck and Laura provided lots of additional information about where to eat, wine taste, get groceries, etc. - all things that made our vacation all the more relaxing because we felt like we knew what we were doing.

Don't miss the light shows on the historic buildings in Beaune after 9 p.m. We found 6 of the 7 locations - the clock tower nearest to the apartment was the one we liked best.

Wine tasting was great in this central location - as well as sight seeing at many Chateaus. The countryside is beautiful, the people friendly and helpful - can't say enough about the area.

Thank you Franck and Laura for providing a wonderful home base, and lots of information, that made our stay in Beaune the trip of a lifetime.
