About this property

19th century Snowdonia Mountain Cottage Peaceful & Tranquil (Pet Friendly)

Rustic, unmodernised and very basic. Myn Mawr is a 19th century traditional Welsh cottage. Very few changes have been made to the cottage since it was built. It’s definitely a complete detox from 21st century life.
Truly beautiful in its simplicity and sense of timelessness but, if you need all mod cons and squeaky clean - then definitely not right for you.
One bedroom, living room, kitchen & bathroom. Garden at the front looking straight onto Yr Wyddfa (Mt Snowdon) massif.

The cottage is ancient with thick walls but can get dusty! If you don’t mind a few cobwebs here & there and the very basic furnishings and lack of luxe you’ll be rewarded with a truly unique experience.

In the heart of Snowdonia National Park, an early 19th century unmodernised traditional Welsh cottage. On the Glyder mountain range looking onto Yr Wyddfa (Mt Snowdon) massif with uninterrupted 360 degree mountain views. The cottage is in the very heart of a designated Dark Sky Reserve - One of just 12 in the world. On clear nights, it is a paradise for stargazers and astronomers. The perfect detox from modern life. Water source is from the river behind the cottage. Fine for bathing etc with bottled water provided for drinking.

What an incredible place to find yourself. So cut off from the modern world, a perfect respite. The property is so cosy and provided with all the basics you need to get by. A slower pace of being and so so much charm! Make sure you take food supplies and a torch with you as there's not many services nearby! Prepare to switch off and climb some mountains!!

We absolutely loved our stay at this charming cottage! Firstly, it is situated in one of the most beautiful places in the world, you are right in the heart of Snowdonia, surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and greenery. The cottage lies right next to a footpath which leads to a challenging but rewarding climb. We came here because we wanted to take advantage of the dark sky area and we had two fantastic nights of observing with our telescope here. As for the cottage itself, we found it to be very cosy and very warm once we had put the electric heaters on for a bit(the building retains heat very well and the bedroom was very cosy, we had an excellent night’s sleep) The log burner is currently awaiting servicing, but this didn’t affect our trip at all as we spent most of it outside ! The bath does take a while to fill but remember that you’re staying in a traditional Welsh cottage whose water source is the river nearby. We truly loved staying in the cottage because it gave us a small insight into the reality of living on the mountain. The kitchen is fully equipped for everything you need with pans and crockery etc. We would highly recommend for you to stay here if you need to get away from it all and want to enjoy nature, the sky and each others’ company. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Originally from London, I moved to Snowdonia in the ‘90’s and love the mountains and lakes and the tranquility of the area. I swim in lakes year-round and have a west highland terrier.

Why they chose this property

The Snowdonia National Park is an incredible place. I have lived in the area for 34 years and I’m still amazed by the beauty! There is truly something for everybody. Fabulous walks and hikes, beautiful lakes to swim, forests, wild goats roaming, the changing seasons on the mountain.
I also love the fact that Snowdon is accessible to everyone because of the train. It’s quirky unique, ancient and utterly tranquil

What makes this property unique

Myn Mawr is a complete detox from 21st century life ~ perfect for people who want a truly authentic & immersive mountain retreat experience ,appreciating its simplicity and complete lack of luxe.

A river runs behind the cottage, a waterfall too. It’s surrounded by mountains and was built from stone hewn from the mountain many many moons ago.

The Cottage was built in the early 19th century and has not been modernised or changed in anyway; therefore, it remains unique. It’s quirky and authentic and has a real sense of Soul.
