About Lykele & Cathy Tamminga
Howdy, Im Lykele Tamminga but you can call me Lee and Cathy and our fur child, Fia. I am from a small northern farm town in Holland and moved to Waxahachie in 1984. I grow up on a dairy farm in Holland and Waxahachie. Cathy is from Hickory NC and moved to Texas in 1979. We were Jr.High sweethearts for 2 years then we went our separate ways. 25 years later we end up back together. We both grow up here... literally just across the fields. I am a grain harvester and work 4 months a year and Cathy is an Insurance Agent that works from home. We wanted to share our unique Silo House with others while we are gone for harvest.
Lykele & Cathy Tamminga purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2013
Why Lykele & Cathy Tamminga chose Waxahachie
After the family dairy stopped milking I decided to recycle the grain silo... into our house. I had 15 acres to put it on, so I welding two trailers together and hooked up to the tractor and away we went. I did all the welding and fabrication and had a local builder help with the framing and interior. I studied the sunrises and sunsets so that you could see both views from inside. It truly is peaceful and quiet out here. You can truly feel like you are the only people on Earth.

Very unique property. Great for a couples weekend retreat
What a unique experience. I was attracted to the Silo House because I used to construct and maintain silos (we called them grain bins) in high school. Very nice appliances, bedding, etc. Plenty of cookware and dinnerware, just would be nice to have a chef's knife for slicing veggies, etc. since we tend to cook instead of eating out.
Only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars was the leaks we had to deal with during the stay. It was a rainy weekend and we had to fight a leaking ceiling right in front of the stove and water coming in under the door. Made cooking and relaxing difficult. Owners solution was to tell us where the mop was located and tell us they've never had this issue before. However, the texture is missing from the ceiling and the trim at the base of the door is rotted so this issue has been going on for years. No offer of any type of refund for the trouble. Other than that,it was a nice place and very secluded.
A unique experience that was perfectly secluded and peaceful.
The Silo House was the perfect escape from the city without a long drive. We watched sunrise from the balcony, and gazed at the stars by the fire pit at night! The home had all amenities covered, and made our experience easy and focused on relaxation.
A carefree getaway
The Silo House is the perfect spot to get away and forget your troubles! I definitely recommend if you’re looking for a quiet weekend to getaway and relax.
Wonderful, so glad you enjoyed your stay.
This place is so great. We stayed for the weekend to celebrate our 37th Anniversary. We took our two dogs and had a fantastic time. It feels like you are totally isolated but in reality you’re not. It’s the perfect combination!! We walked the property in the early mornings and grilled steaks in the evening. In between we took up residence on the hammock under a canopy of trees. We will definitely return.
Close to the Metroplex, private, wonderfully comfortable and dog-friendly to boot!
The perfect weekend getaway. only thirty minutes south of Dallas but far from the maddening crowds. The Silo House has everything you could need. A well-appointed kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances and all the utensils necessary to make incredible meals, including a combination gas grill/ BBQ smoker. All the entertainment needs are met with full WiFi, smart TV, dish satellite... there is even a record player. And the shower ! Rain head, body jets, handheld plus the he max relaxing steam bath. About 100 yards from the house they have cleared a patch of woods, added a Hammock and a chair swing. It was perfectly comfortable at the hottest part of a 100 degree day. Cozy, quiet, and dog friendly. It is the perfect weekend retreat
So glad y’all enjoyed your stay and the house. The hammock is my favorite place on hot days.
Amazing & unique place!
My husband and I booked The Silo House as our lodging while we attended a foster parent training in Waxahachie. It was amazing! What a neat experience to stay in a silo, and we were close enough to Waxahachie for our training and for some delicious places to eat. We could have used the well-stocked kitchen, but we didn't. We highly recommend The Silo House if you are looking for a secluded, unique couple's getaway.
Thank you Carolyn,
We are so happy that you choose to stay in our Silo house. Glad to see you enjoy our little town of Waxahachie. Hope you may stay again and tell your friends.
