THE AREA

Covent Garden is a district in London, England, located on the eastern fringes of the West End, between St. Martin's Lane and Drury Lane. The area is mainly associated with the former fruit and vegetable market located in the central square which is now a popular shopping and tourist site, and the Royal Opera House, which is also known as "Covent Garden". The area is divided by the main thoroughfare of Long Acre; north of which is mainly given over to independent shops centred on Neal's Yard and Seven Dials, while the south contains the central square with its street performers, and most of the elegant buildings, theatres and entertainment facilities, including the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and the London Transport Museum.

With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized

lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is

not just considered the heart of this bustling London

hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this

esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as

Tips about where to go in the neighborhood:

The Savoy Hotel: World famous Omelette Arnold Bennett!

The Hoxton Holborn: There is nothing better than The Hoxton's full English breakfast and a latte from Holborn Grind - these places are next to each other too

STK: A restaurant, bar and club all in one, so you can spend all night here! It's a great place for large groups who want to catch up over dinner without having to move on to somewhere else later in the night.

Dishoom: If you really want to taste Indian food, then this is the place to go. They offer chai (tea) in a little cup. The atmosphere at this place is amazing - it feels just like Bombay!

Radio Rooftop Bar: The best cocktails and great panoramic views of London - it's the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks, a romantic date and for those looking to celebrate in style.

My Old Dutch: The best place for pancakes on Shrove Tuesday - or any day of the year for that matter!

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co: Based on Forest Gump, this lovely shrimp restaurant from the USA has opened its first restaurant in London! Amazing food and the restaurant is decked out just like you're on the film - it has its own gift shop too!

Sartori Restaurant and Giovanni Restaurants: two of the few authentic italian restaurant in Covent Garden!

Wonderful Flat and Location, there are just a few things to know

  • 4 of 5

The flat has been newly renovated and is in fantastic shape. We were very lucky with weather and had our breakfast on the patio each morning. You also have a great view of the London Eye which looks spectacular at night.

A nice perk is the concierge, David, who mans a desk in the lobby during the day (on most days). He can recommend things to do and places to eat. Also, if you have any issues with the flat, he is there to help.

The location of the flat is perfect. It is just steps from Embankment/Charing Cross stations, which makes it VERY convenient for getting around town. The flat is also located on a quiet street with no pubs. However, there is only one dim street light, so if you are a woman staying here, you should keep an eye out for security sake as you come and go. We were always careful to check that the door to the lobby was locked behind us.

The flat is actually a stacked duplex. A lift opens directly into the lower level of the flat (it requires a key, for safety), where the bedrooms and baths are located. When I say it opens directly into the flat, I mean the elevator door is inside the flat and opens just outside of the bedroom doors. This lift is shared with the other flats in the building. Why does this matter? When neighbors come up to their flats, it SOUNDS as if they are going to step into your bedroom (they don’t of course – there are two lift doors, one opens into this flat and one opens into their flat). It was a bit loud and disconcerting on the first night we were there (mostly because it was unexpected). Also, please know that if you need a wheelchair or can't walk up stairs, you won't be able to get to the top floor where the kitchen, laundry and wonderful patio are located.

Air conditioning - the flat does have air conditioning, on the top floor only. I am not sure how hot it gets in London during the summer, but I would imagine that the bedrooms may get a bit toasty during the height of summer.

All in all, it's a great place to rent and we would stay there again.
