About Les and Bonnie Burleson

Bonnie and Les LOVE Lake Gaston and want to share the experience of living here with YOU and your family or friends! They will do everything possible to guarantee your stay is pleasant and hassle free!

Why Les and Bonnie Burleson chose Henrico

This property was once owned by an Admiral appointed by President Ronald Reagan to head our US Naval Forces in the North Atlantic. The Admiral chose this house as his personal sanctuary while not at sea, and could be seen many mornings on the deck, with a hot cup o' joe looking out over the broad expanse of Pea Hill Creek. He was no stranger to the water; his life and his career were the sea, but the sea raged and waves could swell as high as a 4 story building. When he had time, his time, he preferred the quiet waters of Lake Gaston. A place he considered calm and glassy and peaceful. He loved the stunning peninsula lot which allowed him to stroll about and relax from the immense responsibilities he undertook to serve our country. To him, this was a different world and a place to share good times with guests from all over the globe.

So, we invite you to come and stay with us! You who have responsibilities. You who face big waves. You who have the weight of the world on your shoulders. We invite you to be the Captain of your own ship; come and stand on the deck, right where the Admiral stood, and watch the sunrise with a cup o' joe, or stroll the peninsula under a full moon. We think you'll agree with the Admiral. It's a different world here...

Beautiful location and toys for everyone!

  • 5 of 5

We loved it ! From the 9 year old to the 70+ members of our family-the dock, the water, the kayaks and canoe and pedal boat. So much fun. And a fire on our last night. Thanks for sharing your home.

Perfect week!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing week at Lake Gaston! Les and Bonnie, the property managers, were fantastic. Les was very responsive and able to answer any and all questions. It was obvious that they are dedicated to their renters and passionate about service. This was a bonus because the house and property were outstanding. We had 4 teenage boys and a 6 year old with us, in addition to my 70 year old parents. All generations agreed that the house was one of the best we have stayed at. The boat house had everything you could need including kayaks, a canoe, paddle boat, and tons of life vests. They even had a smaller kayak that my 6 year old could use. There is a small fridge at the tiki bar and ample seating both in the shade and the sun. The property is in a little cove and it’s a low traffic area on the lake, which we loved. Beyond the boat house there were tons of other things to do including a volleyball net and supplies for badminton. There was also cornhole boards, which led to some serious cornhole tournaments. The lower floor was the perfect space for the teens. They had their own bathroom and bedroom, along with a tv and activities. They loved having their own area of the house. Our boys are already asking to come back next year. I don’t be want to say too many glowing things because I want to make sure we can rent it again :)

Amazing View, Perfect House, Great Hosts

  • 5 of 5

My family (with two toddlers) stayed here for a week and within a few days we’re comparing dates for next year. The house is three levels but we spent most of the time in the main level which has kitchen and comfy living room and great deck. The main back deck has railings and gates for the two stairs so it’s already childproof! The stairwells in the house are steep but I felt I got good exercise and have hand railings and are carpeted so wasn’t a problem. There’s a grocery story and liquor store five minutes down the road. Make sure you use the fire pit and the kayaks! There are a variety of life jackets, including kids.

The only thing we noticed to be aware of and absolutely did not affect our stay but took us a day to figure out was the temperature in the double room, it’s on a different system and has its own thermostat and fan in the room.

As previous reviewer said, don’t think about it - just book it. You won’t regret it.

But don’t go July 2018 just yet, I want first dibs!

Owner's Response: THANK YOU sooooo much for coming to stay with us!! We are thrilled to know that you had a great experience! Also, thanks for pointing out all the child friendly measures that were taken for safety and to ensure a worry free stay by diligent parents! I know other moms and dads will appreciate your comments. The wide open peninsula and shallow wading water near the shore have been favorites of other parents as well for safe play. By the way, we are installing a new volleyball net but were wondering if our guests would prefer it to be set up on the peninsula or out in the water? The peninsula would give you the chance to play a game completely surrounded by water, which is really cool, but we have huge spaces in the water that would make for a great volleyball area as well. Since your family has all ages coming back to join us maybe you could let us know your thoughts if you get a chance?? Again, a huge THANKS for making our home your home and being part of our extended lake family!!! See you next year...or sooner!!! :)

Great location easy to get to.

Rental agents could not have been more helpful. The only problem we had was that the cleaning crew did not do a good job. The agents agreed and were very forth coming in helping us. Owners should make sure everything is in working order before they rent.

Owner's Response: This group was absolutely the most fun group we could have had! A multi generational gathering truly inclusive of the entire family and one of the most accomodating groups imaginable! There were times that I felt like I would wear out our welcome as a property manager from sitting and talking and laughing and sharing stories about how things are so different in various parts of the country. They were from the North and we are from the South so we made a big deal out of the "Pig Pickin' Cake" that the we brought them to celebrate their anniversaries. We think they loved it, but they haven't reached out for the recipe yet, but I expect a call any day... :) We felt terrible about the situation with the cleaning crew and felt that the client was completely correct. The cleaning crew should have caught the issues that were so disappointing. In the cleaning world we are completely dedicated to customer satisfaction which is why we pledged to refund 100% of the cleaning fee; not portion, but 100%. These folks were so nice they didn't even ask us to do that, but we felt it was the only right thing to do. I mean, why wait until asked? Go the extra mile! That's our motto!!!! They are also correct about items being in working order. We had a crew in there before them and, oh my goodness; they were 14 energetic Category 5 hurricanes. Nice group, and very respectful I should add, but they took an HDMI cable from the gaming system, broke a cotter pin on our paddle boat and we had to fix the remote to the TV. Ugh! So, what's a property manager to do between changeovers?? Well, it took us a day to circle back on getting all that taken care of once we learned about it, which we hated, so we really wanted to make it up to these folks. So, we provided 9 kayaks, life vests, fishing poles and we went and bought some new tow lines and got our own personal tow-behind tube for them to use - of course at no charge. I think it saved them a few hundred because those tow-behind units are really expensive! Anyways, no sense buying one if we have one we can loan out to our folks especially if we are talking a savings of two or three hundred dollars. Anyways, we felt bad about that mis-step with the cleaning, but felt fully refunding the cleaning fee and truly serving this awesome family in every possible was the best way to win them back and ensure they had a fabulous time!

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect vacation home on the lake with beautiful views. The home had everything we needed. The peninsula made it more private and there was lots of space for even camping outdoors. We loved the boathouse which had plenty of space and a tiki bar that came in handy especially when we wanted a cold beverage. The kayaks were awesome! We did tons of fishing of the deck, boating and jet skiing! What’s not to love when you get back from water activities and jump into the outdoor shower. I personally loved the outdoor shower. Because of our family experience we are looking forward to a vacation on the lake in this wonderful home next year!
