About Katherine Frelon is an Chef, Author and Founder of La Ferme de la Lochere
Since before I can remember I dreamt of creating beautiful homes and inviting others to enjoy them and to share my love of France. Having spent my childhood years on holidays in the South, taking in the taste, smell and colours of all the produce in the markets, (but to young to enjoy the wine!), it influenced my decision to leave England when I was just 22 and set out on an adventure that I would not come back from. 'Le Four a Pain,' was my first project. Building and restoring, ‘Le Four a Pain,’ whetted my appetite for repeating similar projects in different areas of France, and finally come to rest in Burgundy where I had been working as a successful Chef for the American/French Barging Company. I founded ‘La Ferme de la Lochere,’ a place where finally i could mix home and xpanding family with running the new business of Specialised Gastronomic Vacations, private Gites, Bed & Breakfast & Wedding Planner. I still commute from the local train station on the TGV to Lille and then Lille to London on Eurostar regularly as I have a very successful company as a chef for private clients. It's been such a success that I have been included in the BBC Good Food magazine, provided Special Occasion Recipes in the newspapers, and was paramount in setting up the ready made farm meals for my local farm shop, who have since gone on to win many awards & been featured in Country Living. I have recently appeared on televison touring Chablis market and am releasing my 1st Cookery book 'Shop. Cook. Eat' in the Fall of 2014

Terrific site for 50th college reunion
We joined other couples for a reunion of our undergrad days together. The Farmhouse was the perfect spot to meet and relax in the quaint setting of the French countryside. The owner and hostess, Katherine was helpful and friendly. We enthusiastically recommend this place for any group looking for first class accommodations in a friendly atmosphere.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was wonderful to have you all stay with me in Burgundy. Hearing such laughter and seeing such friendship throughout the week was a joy to see.
With sincere and warmest regards to you all.
11 Girlfriends from Bloomington, Indiana, for a week. A wonderful, wonderful trip. Gracious accommodations...comfortable, spacious and well appointed. And the owner is at least as fabulous! She made us feel at home and was such a fun and helpful hostess. I want to go back right now!Go! You'll be forever sorry if you don't!
Great week in Burgundy!
The house is lovely and spacious. The kitchen is a cooks dream. The owner, Katherine , was delightful to work with very helpful & accommodating. Lots of activities to visit & most require driving, which is very common for those of you that travel to the French countryside. Katherine provides good quality bikes for guests that prefer to roam around the village. All and all, it was a very delightful & restful week in Burgundy. Don't confuse this with property with a hotel. No one is going to wait on you & pick up after you on a daily basis. It's a house, which is exactly what we wanted! Lastly, Katherine is an amazing chef & I learned quite a bit from the two incredible meals she prepared for us. Enjoy!
Absolutely Lovely Home in Burgundy
One of my hobbies is to search for the perfect vacation home to accommodate a group of our friends . In the past 15 years we have rented homes throughout the U.S. and Europe, and La Ferme de la Lochere was by far the best. Every word of Katherine's detailed house description is true. There were 8 of us longtime friends traveling together, and this is the first home I have ever encountered, that has 5 equal king bedrooms along with 5 equal ensuite bathrooms.
The common living area is very large and open. The house has a professional kitchen, with sharp knifes and every tool, dish and pan needed to turn market day treasures into tasty meals. Katherine and family live in the adjoining property, across a yard and pool. She was available to answer any questions, but never popped in without being asked.
By prior arrangement, Katherine cooked the first evening meal for us. I am a good home cook with some experience in catering, and I can say without qualm that Katherine's food is among the best I have ever had. We enjoyed the first night so much, we asked her to do 2 additional meals later in the week. We were very lucky that she was available with such short notice.
We loved the close proximity of the house to the Burgundy Canal . Our group took several walks along the canal, which has an adjacent path for walkers and bikers. The scenery there was beautiful, with lush green rolling hills and fields of yellow flowers.
La Ferme de la Lochere was well located for Burgundian field trips. Among our favorite were the Abbey Fontenay, the interactive museum at the site of the battle of Alesia, and the lunch at Katherine's charming brother's restaurant in Chateauneuf. Dijon was a surprisingly beautiful city, not touristy, with a lovely square and many restaurants for a nice lunch. One of our group is a serious wine collector and enjoyed the local vineyard Vignoble de Flavigny, and also the many tasting opportunities along Route des Grandes Crus just north of Beaune.
I highly recommend La Ferme de la Lochere for couples traveling together or for a family vacation. It is a surprisingly good value for such a large, beautifully decorated home.

Katherine’s five bedroom en suite country estate provides a most comfortable home from which to explore Burgundy. Our group of young seniors enjoyed Katherine’s culinary treats for 5 nights including one of her special menus including terrific wine selections. We shopped for and prepared the other two evening meals.
Some of us jumped in the pool after a day of visiting the beautiful countryside. Beaune is a 65-70 minute trip south while Dijon is a bit closer, 35-45 minutes. Better yet are the visits to the beautiful villages of Vezelay, Chateauneuf, Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, Noyers and Semur-en-Brionnais. Enjoy the cuisine at L’Oree du bois in Chateauneuf, the restaurant of Katherine’s brother Stephen. Driving through the villages is exciting since the roads were designed for horse and carriage.
Burgundy is beautiful! Katherine only makes it better. Truly a terrific vacation home.
Bill & Gail, New Jersey, September, 2014
Dear Bill and guests,
Thank you so much for your lovely review.
It was so nice to finally meet you all after our correspondance in the months leading up to your trip.
I especially liked all your links through to articles written about France from the NY Times. I know we shall meet again one day. Lindest regards and warmest wishes to you all
hard work for a vacation
We stayed here hoping for a relaxing vacation within reasonably short driving distance of villages where we could have a meal or a drink. But while this village is pretty, it is very remote so you must plan in advance to drive some distance to do anything. In addition, staying here is a lot of work. The owner has many rules about cleaning and disposing of trash vs recycling which are surprisingly difficult and time consuming to follow. When you leave you must also do all your dishes and strip your beds, which considering the price, is not something you would expect to be doing on your vacation. Remember to supply your own toilet paper, soap and swimming towels.
I have no one of this name registered as staying in my farmhouse however I do know who did stay & under the circumstances that her group departed & from the malicious & defamatory comments I received immediately after their departure (I have kept a record & also informed VRBO as to their nature) I am not surprised she has used a different name.
Our rental is open for incoming clients from 4:30pm which is clearly marked on the booking form, this client decided to arrive at 11:30 & seemed a little put out that I was not ready for their arrival.
The group also increased from the original number marked on the reservation form without our approval, at least 4 other members of the family where camping close-by & enjoyed our facilities for the entire week.
We provide information to our guests that will facilitate their arrival & stay, welcome wine, coffee, tea milk etc and of course toilet paper. However this is a property that is self catering & I doubt if anyone expects us to fill the fridge, buy their wine & cook for them without prior agreement.
For the seasoned traveller, visiting France is relatively simple, the water is safe to drink & rural areas still have septic tanks. Each country has its own way of recycling.
All this information is marked in our House Book. If a client decides to read it, it is pretty straight forward if they don't it can be confusing & errors occur that leave trash uncollected, septic tanks blocked, pool pumps flooded and out of action for the following clients & excessive cleaning required.
We count on average 12 hours of cleaning which is a pretty good amount of time to achieve the standard which I would like to find the property if I was an incoming client.
Our pool is not a public pool, there is no wave machine or toboggan so creating a wave machine with an adult body can and did flood the pump, I politely advised the clients of this who denied all knowledge. For insurance we had to take photos
It is clearly marked on our Booking Form and Rental Contract & a 3rd time in our House Book that there are things that should be respected during out clients stay. Quite simply out of common decency for us the owners & the future clients.
I am not allowed to comment about the malicious content of the emails received, but just to confirm the name used to post this review is not one of my registered guests.
I am eternally grateful that most of my clients are fabulous.
Owners & VRBO beware if you ever receive an enquiry from this group!
