About Penny and Greg Bane

Lake Anna has been a gathering place for our family and friends for 20 years. We enjoy the beautiful sunsets, outdoor firepit by the water, swimming in the lake and boat rides at sunset. Nothing is more beautiful than the early morning peacefulness of the water and nature at Lake Anna.

Penny and Greg Bane purchased this house in 1997

Why Penny and Greg Bane chose Central Virginia

You can't beat the full beach with shallow water for kids (1-2 fee) and deeper water for boats. The 300 ft sandy beach is one of the only large beaches on a private property. Great sunsets to watch as you sit on the beach. Best for 2-4 families with kids!

What makes this house unique

300 ft beach with shallow water on one side for small children and a deeper side to the left with a dock for a boat.

We have a fabulous firepit and face the beautiful sunsets over the lake.

Beautiful spot on the lake!

We rented this house because of the flat lot and the expansive beach area and we were not disappointed!

Great location, nice beach, a lot of beach toys, good fishing for the grand kids

  • 4 of 5

Nice lot, great sandy beach, super neighbors, and responsive property managers. Home located on the private side of the lake. There was 13 of us visiting. The acomodations were a little tight. There is only one TV in the home. The kids spent most of their time in the lake swimming or in boats, or on the dock fishing. Everyone had a great time.

The house and property were excellent!!

  • 4 of 5

The house was very comfortable for our family reunion of sorts. There were lots of activities provided: row boat, kayak, canoe, floating raft, badminton, volleyball, bocci ball, plus more! We did not realize that the lake was a cooling pool for a nuclear power plant and very very warm!! Still swam and enjoyed though.

Overall great but a few things you should know....

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week at Lady of the Lake at the beginning of August 2017. Overall the house and property were great! Neighbor on one side was super-helpful and kind, bringing firewood over to our beach for us and giving tips for the surrounding area. There were may great amenities and the property was very quiet and private. Kids of all ages and adults will have fun here!

The following portion of the review is to help others have a clear idea in advance about some of the challenges we encountered. If you are considering this property with multiple families then there are a few things you should know. There are 3 baths but one is in the master and a 2nd on the first floor. Rest of 4 bedrooms are upstairs with one bath (that does not lock). It didn't affect us too much but it is a little awkward. Next do not use the floating dock that is sitting along with the kayak and canoe! It is the neighbors and they were pretty rude about us having life jackets and such on it! You cannot even see the other house and would never realize the extent of their property line (don't worry, she will point it out to you). The trash can in the kitchen is very small for a big group and needs constant emptying. On top of that you are responsible for your own trash removal which requires loading the stinky stuff into your car and driving it to the dump. OK we did that but make sure you take another run after you have cleaned everything up (take all food out of fridge) and are ready to go but before you pack your car because if you leave any trash bags you are asked to pay $xx in cash before you go..

If you are splitting costs, do NOT split up the deposit like we did. It is kind of outrageous right off the bat at a whopping figure. We figured this into the per family amount and now I am stuck paying out in cash to the other families what was returned to my credit card. Not so simple for many. Lastly, the water on this side of the lake is too warm to be refreshing at this time of year when the days are 90+ degrees and water temp is in the upper 80s. I know I sound negative but we really DID enjoy our trip and I do recommend this house. We have used VRBO many times with great success and I always read the reviews to look for things just like this so we will know before we go.

Great 50th Anniversary Family Time for Building Special Memories

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Lady of the Lake, a truly beautiful place to make special memories with our 3 daughters, husbands and grandchildren! Celebrating our 50th anniversary, we wanted a place for all ages to enjoy, and this lakefront home was perfect! From age 6 to 76, there was something fun to do! We played beach volleyball, badminton, played and swam for hours in the water, took excursions around the lake in the rowboat, canoe and 2 person kayak they provided. Eating out on the deck for some breakfasts and dinners was a real treat for us all. Sitting out on the screened in porch in the early morning and again at night over conversation and coffee was a special memory! Renting a pontoon boat for half a day was an extra special wonderful way to see the beauty of Lake Anna, that our daughters gave us as a special gift! The grandchildren fished off the dock, returning each precious catch to the water, but so thrilled with their catch! The fire pit on the beach, watching the sunset over the lake, and making smores at night was an extra special time each night. Thank you to Greg and Penny Bane, for being so attentive to any need that came up, for we had a vacation we will long remember!
