About this property

Cozy, quiet home with a privacy fenced backyard for you to enjoy. You can relax in the hammock & listen to the sound of the ocean or BBQ your catch of the day. We are across the street from the public beach (lifeguards, restrooms) or you can use our adjoining private beach and enjoy the view from the 2-story tiki hut. I love to watch pelicans skydiving in to the water for their dinner.

For your pets, not only is the backyard fully fenced but we also have pet beds, bowls, towels, toys and crates to welcome the furry members of your family. Size, type, breed and number of pets is not an issue and there is no pet fee. The WHOLE family is welcome.
10% of profits are donated to local animal rescue groups (my husband is laughing and says "as if" we could keep it down to that amount. haha.)

ur little neighborhood has a dog park at the end of our street and there is an off-leash dog beach 4 miles north of us. Little dogs may prefer the river side where it is shallow for 8-10' out. Local pet-friendly restaurants are listed in our House Book.

We recently finished remodeling the home and think the kitchen is gorgeous. What people rave about, though, is the rainforest showers in the bathrooms!
The home is fully furnished with linens, pillows, cookware, beach chairs, umbrella, cooler, BBQ grill, as well as spices, condiments, FAST internet, WIFI and cable TV.

The back of our neighborhood is on the river and provides a pleasant view for watching the sunset. For daytime activities, you can use the boat ramp to put in your boat or fish from the adjacent dock.

One mile down the road is livelier Jensen Beach with restaurants, surf rentals and music. Dogs are allowed on one end of this beach and surfers are on the far end of this beach. Walton Rocks is a more secluded off-leash dog beach 4 miles north which offers scooper bags, water and restrooms.

May - September is Sea Turtle egg-laying season. Talks and night walks are given by the Oceanographic Society here on the island., so you can watch as they come up out of the surf and lay their eggs on the beach!! If you're here in other months, you can enjoy a tour of the House of Refuge and see the rescue work that they do with the giant turtles.

Short Getaway

Paradise for pets and their people.

What a wonderful trip and perfect accommodations. We took a road trip for Christmas to see family and this VRBO allowed us to bring our dogs as well. I should rephrase. It’s one thing to simply allow pets and another to welcome pets. Jan and Van set everything up with pet families in mind, We felt so welcomed and at home. I even got to take my senior Jack Russell to the beach to play on the ocean for the first time. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do for him and he enjoyed it immensely. We hope to come back and stay again soon!

Doggie vacay

Jan is a wonderful host. She thinks of everything. Well positioned house. We were looking for an off leash dog beach. Jan was very helpful and gave us excellent suggestions. Walton Rocks Beach is a must if looking for off leash fun with your dogs just 4 miles north. The house is across the street from the public beach. Leashed dogs welcome after 5! Just a perfect fur baby vacay!!!

Perfection

This home was PERFECT for a getaway trip for myself and my dogs! Everything was easy and that is exactly what I needed! The home was SPOTLESS, everything was LABELED (so helpful) and INVITING. The yard was great for the boys, the furniture comfortable and all the fixtures updated and wonderful. Communication with Jan was easy and the beach was lovely. Definitely recommend!

Great host in very comfortable house

Jan is a terrific host-she was so helpful even before we arrived. The house is well appointed with great appliances and is well-located in a quiet neighborhood across the street from the beach and 4.5 miles from a beautiful, unpopulated, undeveloped and very big dog beach. She provides many things for dogs--crates, dishes, toys, beds and treats. A nice-sized walled in back yard for your dog to safely explore. She provides condiments, spices and even aloe for sunburn if required. A small issue is that her housekeeper let her down in a couple of areas such as no soaps or toiletries when we arrived so we needed to go out to buy, which is fine but unexpected compared against the other 4 similar VRBO properties we had rented before. The housekeeper also missed a trick in cleaning a blanket left in the master closet which I informed Jan about at the time...I am confident Jan will have all this sorted for the next renter as she really is a terrific host and for anyone with a dog or two who wants a lovely beach vacation, you could not find a better place.

One Heck of a Find

Neither us humans nor our three beloved canines could have been any more content in this super comfortable, incredibly dog friendly beach house. The first thing we noticed upon our arrival was just how clean and well maintained the house and grounds were. The second thing we noticed was all the love, care and generosity that went into ensuring the comfort and well being of our fur family. We were surprised and delighted to discover two elegant and full to the brim treat dishes waiting in the kitchen and we couldn’t believe the closet full of dog towels even included a doggie life vest! Crates, couch covers, quality dog beds, an adjustable food and water station and baskets of fresh, clean toys also awaited us. The people beds were very comfortable and the linens and pillows were high quality and very clean. The shower heads even deserve special mention because combined with the excellent water pressure they delivered a lovely scalp massage that made a simple shower memorable. This place truly felt like a home away from home for us and we consider ourselves very lucky to have found it. Our host, Jan, was extremely warm and responsive from the time of our booking, and all throughout our stay. We were sad to leave and we will definitely be back. This was an outstanding find and we can’t say enough good things about the property or host.

Comfortable pet friendly beach house

The house was clean and in a great neighborhood within walking distance to the beach. Beds were comfortable and the shower was fantastic! Great backyard to bbq and bump the volleyball around. So pet friendly - loved the pet beds, toys and treats the owner provided. Our family (including the dog) had a fabulous time enjoying uncrowded beaches in the area. Convenient and quiet. Host provided lots of area information and was responsive.

Beach Club Colony

My family owned property here from 1975-1998 so this was a homecoming for us! Everything from the home location and its immaculate care to the surrounding neighborhood and friendly people to the private beach on Hutchinson island just across the street was Fantastik! Shopping and eating first class! Most important was our pets were welcome. FIVE STAR STAY!!!

The host is incredibly kind, responsive, helpful and loves pets! The information book the host has compiled over the years is a blessing if you're new to the area. The tiki hut was a special perk and the walk to the beach was just as easy as advertised.

Wonderful Stay

I had a wonderful stay at Jan and Van’s Vacation House. The house was so clean and very beachy looking. Jan and Van were the absolute most wonderful hosts. From the moment that I first spoke with Jan about her rental, I knew I liked her. During my stay, I’d like to believe that I became friends with her. She loves animals and it was so good to be able to take my cat there with me. The neighborhood is wonderful also. Everyone is so friendly and makes a point to say hello, i met so many nice people while I was there. The neighborhood is very quiet and super clean too. Once again, I can’t thank Jan and Van enough for my wonderful stay there. I already can’t wait to come back and thank you both for making that happen for me.

Great winter getaway

We spent 3 weeks with our old dog in this house. We enjoyed the area, it’s great for walking and golfing. Friendly neighborhood and great restaurants nearby! The house is very clean and comfortable and the hosts are friendly and responsive.

Great location, very clean and dog friendly. The perfect combination. It was so nice to have a dog friendly rental and not have to make any sacrifices. They are experienced host and it shows. Easy walk to private beach access and some restaurants. The fenced backyard was a plus. Definitely recommend

Great time

Wish weather had been better. But this place is fabulous. Rode bikes everywhere, even over bridge to Jans. There is so much to do and Jan and Van have a book with it all laid out. After we found the tiki across the street it was our favorite place for a cocktail at night. Van suggested we watch the full moon rise and it was amazing. Relax and enjoy is all you have to do. And our dogs were in heaven. Be careful if the have man of war? Warnings. That is a jellyfish type thing and our beagle ended up in urgent care. We think it was from one of those. Just an allergic reaction but of course Jan and Van were there to help with that. Great place

Just came back from 3 week stay at this property, house is wonderful and the owner is just fantastic. House is great for Dogs. Owners are very supportive of pets Only negative feedback would be neighbor next store can be cranky but we straightened everything out with her after a couple of days Overall great stay and would come back again

Return to Paradise

First of all, I can’t thank Jan and Van enough for opening this home as a beach rental. It’s gorgeous with open spaces, clean surfaces and new fixtures and appliances. The rain showers are amazing. There are three great size bedrooms for adults and an extra room with bed for your pup. The private backyard is a tropical dream. The pictures do not do this listing justice and you will be pleasantly surprised and excited to spend a few days just across the street from the beach. I spent summers in this neighborhood growing up in the 80’s and 90’s visiting my grandmother. Nothing has changed and it’s still the peaceful island oasis I have always dreamed of retiring in. From here you have access to restaurants, shopping, a neighborhood dog park, and a peaceful and quiet neighborhood. The beach is across the street and access to the river is in the neighborhood. I have been wanting to bring my dog to my favorite beach on my favorite island and my stay did not disappoint at all, even in October. This house is geared toward people with pets and you will have a great time while here. I can’t wait to book again. FYI, the owners have provided every convenience. There’s also a book of things to do and places to eat that captures literally everything you can and should do when it town. It’s like having the local expert at your fingertips. I’ve been to a lot of beaches and that’s just Nowhere like Hutchinson Island.

Very pet friendly and convenient!

This property was just what we were looking for to stay in town for a few days with our dogs. The house was outfitted with everything we needed from dog supplies/toys to kitchen items. Beach access was close by. We really enjoyed our stay in this house and in this neighborhood. Jan was an exceptional host, checking in with us and giving us ideas for things we could do with the dogs. We hope to get back soon!

Awesome property

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house was clean and had everything we could possibly need. The enclosed yard was great for our dog, and the house had everything you could need for a dog, right down to treats. There were several beaches in the area, including a dog beach. Our dog loved the beach. Just know that dogs are off leash at the dog beach, so you every experience will be different. Ours was great. The private beach was clean. The first couple of days there were barely any shells, but by the end if the week (we had a little storm) there were more, approximately 2 and half feet wide. It was not bad at all and after passing the small strip it was clear. This was truly a great house and place to visit. We did have 2 teenagers with us, there wasn't much for them to do but the beach, this was fine in our situation. But if you are the family that likes to do stuff, you may explore before going. There was a putt putt that we did, about 30 minutes from the house. We didn't really go out looking for those things tho. Lots of food options. We ate at big apple pizza, not a fan, cinco d mayo was good, brocks surfside pizza, really close to the house, was really good and serve was wonderful, Dolphin bar and grill was good, Kyle Gs was great but pricey. Strawberrys icecream and sandwiches was good, ice crea was great. Overall this was a great trip and wouldn't change anything. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home and visiting your area.

Although I never saw a private beach, the one we went to was just a short walk and not crowded on most days. The house was very nice and I would rent it again. Wonderful stay!!

Nice Place

House was clean. Great place for our 4 dogs. The shower was really great! Jan is a good host. Convenient to beach. My son forgot to crate the dogs when we went to dinner so they barked by the back door. Neighbor complained they "kept her up all night," but we were only gone about 2 hours. Neighbor also complained we put the trash out the night before because the can was knocked over and a paper plate fell out. We picked it up and we did follow the instructions on when to take out the trash. Overall, was a nice place to stay and Jan was really nice.

We do animal rescue and love to bring our dogs here along with the foster dogs. I do NOT like being separated from them and have found that other folks feel the same way. So that others could bring ALL family members on vacation, we've created this pet-friendly environment for them.
We let everyone run their feet off, playing with the waves and enjoying the dog beaches. It's so laid back for them and us to swim in the water, bake in the sun and then lay out in the backyard while we BBQ on the grill. We love our days here!!!

Why they chose this property

My husband and I love the beach and enjoy owning this home in a quiet neighborhood. We like to stay here and wake up 'at the beach'. Although we're only 30 minutes away, it's a different feeling to wake up at the ocean than to commute here. It gives us that 'island feeling' when we stay here and relax. It's also nice to walk the dogs at night and just bop across the street to be with the waves and watch the moonlight on the ocean. sigh.
