About the property

House views; 5 bdrms(3 w/lofts), 3 baths, 2 sunrms, TV rm, boulder rm; sleeps 10

The Main House: The contemporary, California-style main house is built on levels conforming gracefully to a hillside and offers fabulous views of Rose Bay, the ocean and surrounding woods. It has 5 bedrms (3 w/lofts), a den/TV room, 2, sunrooms, 3 full baths, a sauna, and a laundry area. Upstairs, the kitchen is part of a bright, open space with living, dining and library areas, a wood-burning stove, a sunroom & a small rooftop deck. The house was built by a local craftsman and has lots of interesting and quirky features from hand-hewn stair railings to stained glass windows.

The Bungalow: A path meanders downhill to a bungalow at bluff's edge which offers a deck as a great place to reIax and view the water. It is not open for use; it has no utilities.

The Rock Patio: The rock patio has two levels both of which offer seating area for outdoor meals, entertainment, watching the kids play on the grounds and simply relaxing looking at the water and gardens.

The Pond: Frogs usually take up residence at the pond starting in the spring. A spout from the pond trickles into a small waterway that follows the slope of the hill to the lower acreage that connects to the water.

Why Pat Fn'Piere chose Nova Scotia

We bought this property after joining a friend at an annual reunion held at the Ovens Park. We fell in love with the area and decided to come back the next year and look for a home. We looked and looked until we came across this home. We fell in love with the quirky entrance - with a stairway leading upstairs to the kitchen and dining area with a 180 degree view of the bay and woods; and another stairway leading down to the bedrooms. Another plus was having and a family area on each of three levels and a loft area in three of the bedrooms. The master bedroom has windows as walls on two sides and the two sun rooms have windows all across the wall looking over the water.

What makes this villa unique

This is a fun house with a variety of places to spend time together or apart and where kids can have a great time playing hide and seek in the house or on the property. Kids love the various lofts! There is a boulder on the lowest level in a room with two walls of winders and a relaxing sauna.

There is a local property manager available. Noted as unsuitable for elderly or infirm because of stairs. Parking is available. Wifi internet access is available. Lunenburg is a great place for dining: everyday and luxury cuisine. Driving around is a delight with so many beautiful sites and views - lots of water. Very friendly and welcoming environment. A wonderful bakery and craft shops are located on the La Have River near a short ferry crossing-- one of many fun destinations for a short day trip. Thursday mornings there is a community market in Lunenburg. Everyday there are inviting crafts stores, art galleries and a Fisherman's Museum very worth seeing. There is a pool at Ovens Park which is near us but we do not have a pool on the property.

Perfect place to stay for a vacation whether you want to explore the area or just relax and enjoy the view. The property was clean and well-maintained. All the supplies (linens, toiletries, dishes etc.) were available in abundance. Located close to attractions. We would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

This home was all one would want in a rental: it was well kept, clean and spacious. We golfed at a nearby course, fished, kayaked and hiked. It is an short drive to Lunenberg with many shops and restaurants. We also made day trips to Halifax and to Chester. Wonderful week!

Little paradise

  • 5 of 5

This house was exactly what we were looking for and more. We were two couples and 4 kids and the house easily provided privacy and quiet areas with plenty of space. The design of the house is one of the most interesting we have ever seen. The listing was exactly as described and the property impeccable inside and outside. The owner was always prompt to respond to all of our questions and provided excellent customer service. The proximity to Lunenburg, Blue Rocks, Mahone Bay, La Have, etc enabled us to enjoy a variety of activities and scenic drives as well as sea kayaking. Best of all was the Ovens within minutes walking distance where they had the best little restaurant with wonderful service and great live music. We would definitely return to this property and would not hesitate to recommend the place to friends and relatives. It felt like paradise for one week.

Very large and comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

We totally enjoyed our stay at this Nova Scotia Rental. We had 3 couples and there was plenty of space for us all with rooms to spare. Large cozy kitchen with all the amenities. The Oven's are a truly amazing viewing spot that are literally next door. They have a restaurant with entertainment some nights. (Harry Chapin's brother and family run the restaurant/bar). We were able to take trips daily to Halifax, Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg because of the location of the house. The house is magical, with spinner wind vane's, early morning fog, rain, and fog horns we could hear in the distance. A great get- away. Enjoyed our stay immensely.

Beautiful house and great location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the house for a workshop, with several days reserved for a retreat. The house was amazing - easily the most interesting and quirky space we've rented - and was very well maintained and comfortable. We accommodated six adults with no problem and the common area (including kitchen) was perfect for working, for meals, and for socializing. The property was beautiful, too.

It's a short drive into Lunenburg and the Ovens park is about a 10 minute walk from the house.

We rented the villa for our spring wedding last year, and the owners were wonderful. Very accomodating, and helpful.

The property is a little slice of heaven, even with the trees gone. (The pictures should be updated to reflect the fact that the lower area of the property has no trees now.)

We cooked amazing dinners, had tons of area to run around, and play with the kids, and with the proximity to the ovens, it was just a hop skip and a jump to an incredible adventure.

The place was spotless, very-well equipped.

I would recommend this place to anyone, at any time. Asolutely amazing.

White, sandy beaches, a provincial park and coastal hiking are very close. The Ovens Natural Park, walking distance, offers breathtaking rock formations, naturally-formed sea caves (the ovens) with thunderous waves, hiking, sea shore, a funky restaurant, live entertainment most summer nights, gold panning opportunities, and boat tours. The picturesque UNESCO world heritage site of Lunenburg, a 15 minute drive, has a golf course, tennis courts, deep sea fishing and whale watching excursions, a sea museum, distinctive restaurants, and art and craft shops. Four cities are within 1-2 hours: Yarmouth and Halifax, and Digby and Truro which are on the Bay of Fundy known for its huge tides. This is a terrific place to ride bikes or to take scenic drives and walks.
