About this property

Lakefront Oasis with Private Cove, Dock, and Dark Sky Nights on Kerr Lake

Fishing, family, forest, and fun come together at Oak Hill Oasis, a peaceful lakefront retreat in Clarksville, Virginia—the state’s only lakeside town on beautiful John H. Kerr Lake/Buggs Island Lake. Our home sits on a quiet hill above the main channel with its own secluded beach cove, floating dock, and swimming ladder. It’s the perfect setting for slow mornings, sunset grilling, and memory‑making with the people you love.

Originally an off‑season hideaway for a well‑known race car driver and his family, the house blends classic knotty pine charm and mid‑century modern touches with just the right amount of modern comfort.

Or simply stock up at Food Lion and enjoy the solitude back at the house.

Easy Access From Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Richmond

We’re 60–90 minutes from Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill (about 70 minutes from the RDU Airport rental car lots) and just under 2 hours from Richmond—close enough for a quick getaway, far enough to feel like a true escape.

Further afield, we're also 2 hours from Charlottesville, VA, or the NC Piedmont Triad, 3 hours from Blacksburg/Roanoke, VA, and 3.5 hours from Washington, DC.

The final 3/4 mile to the house is a well-maintained gravel & dirt road but does not require any special vehicle clearance; our driveway circle and parking area is paved asphalt. The last turn on most navigation maps is incorrect but you'll receive corrected directions in your welcome message.

A Note About the Lake

Because Kerr Lake is a flood‑control project of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, our beach may occasionally collect natural log debris after storms or rapid water‑level changes. Floating dock access is always available.

About the host

Hosted by Jim

Host profile image
Our dear family friend, Jim, will serve as your host since we left the area several years ago to pursue jobs in Colorado. Jim is a US Army veteran who takes his grandkids fishing off our dock when it's not booked and is one of triplet siblings who are pillars of the Clarksville community (sister Aggie owns The Pizza Pub). He's a wealth of information about the area and we know you'll enjoy working with him as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

We were looking for a quick waterside family getaway from the Triangle area when we grew tired of the long trip to the beach. I recalled having gone to Kerr Lake on the NC side with my dad's family the summer before college and had fond memories of this massive lake that spanned the NC/VA border.

We fell in love with Clarksville–the town and its people–and this became a home away from home. Even living in Colorado today, we love coming back once each season to enjoy the peace and quiet, as well as the colors of the deciduous forest that we miss out west. While there are properties on either side of the cove, they are old cabins from the 1950s and not currently in use. When we retire, we plan to spend a few months a year at the Oasis.

What makes this property unique

The deceptively secluded lot and cove is unique in being so close to downtown Clarksville but tucked away in the woods. You'll notice that we are on a hill between two drainages, the upstream one fed by an intermittent spring. As a result, you can get a good workout just walking up and down our driveway loop without even leaving the property. The hill also gives the screened porch and deck a great view of the main channel all the way across to Buffalo Creek (and another slight workout with the steps to the beach and dock!). And our location about 4 miles from the confluence of the Dan and Staunton/Roanoke Rivers sends enough driftwood down the lake for plentiful bonfires after dark.
