About this property

Sleep to the sound of the sea.

Kilbaha cottage is uniquely perched on one end of Kilbaha Bay in Loop Head, with panoramic views over the Atlantic and the ships and fishing boats that pass it's door. Set in ten acres just off the Wild Atlantic Way, it has a rocky cove on the shore and endless scope for exploration, be it with bucket and spade or binoculars.
Loop Head is still a well kept secret and visitors find it unspoilt and deserving of it's many awards. A recent one being the European Destination of Excellence.
The house has recently had an extensive refit, which kept all that makes it special, but adding a wet room, wood burning stove and a new shower area near the sauna.
The three bedrooms are double with the master suite having it's own bathroom.
A separate loft room over the kitchen is a quiet space to read or watch a movie and usually a gathering place for the children.
While there is a wonderful sense of remoteness in Loop Head you are never far from a great meal or a small harbour to pick up your lobster and crab for dinner.
You can see the lobster pots being emptied outside the house by the local fishermen, and drive to the harbour to get the freshest catch imaginable.

Please note our changeover day is Saturday.

Beautiful break by the stormy sea

We were so impressed by this property. The house is much bigger than appears in the photos, and beautifully decorated. Despite being isolated on a high cliffside with the dramatic Atlantic swells bashing against the rocks just below, the house is very calm and cosy, with a toasty fire for rainy days. Kitchen is well appointed and beds very comfortable. And the sauna was an unexpected perk after battling the wind and rain on Loop Head. We loved our week here, opening the curtains in the morning to a constantly changing seascape, with Kerry and the mountains of Dingle (we think) sometimes visible across the Shannon. The nearest shops are in Kilkee, about 20 minutes drive, and Tesco is 35 minutes away in Kilrush. Not many hiking trails, but the cliff walk from Kilkee and Bridges of Ross is stunning on a clear day. There aren’t otherwise many things to do in this part of Clare - and the beaches around Loop Head are distressingly filthy, including St Senan’s well, a small spring that runs through the property - but if you’re happy just to curl up with a book and a view of the sea, this place is magically restorative.

Christmas by the sound of the sea

This property is in a spectacular location but also inside it is really well equipped and full of lovely features. The sea and the wind batter the cottage one minute and then out comes the sun and all is forgiven. It is very snug and beds very comfortable and warm. The owner even put up Christmas decorations and a tree for us. How good is that ?

Truly relaxing

Beautiful views, wonderful walks - we enjoyed our stay thoroughly! The cottage was a very comfortable and cozy home away from home. And enough space for my husband, myself and three of our grownup sons. We can definitely recommend it!

A place where your soul comes home

The beauty of this completely private location, on its own headland looking out over the Dingle peninsular is so liberating and relaxing. Ciara and Damien have a wonderful eye for design, using impressive hard materials with touches of colour and beautiful fabrics which they so generously entrust to those who stay. That's before you even start looking at the paintings and photographs. The views from all the rooms are fabulous and being able to walk down those huge slabs of basalt rock to swim below the cottage was just glorious (we were there during the 32 degree heatwave mind you!) Would love to return one day and see it all in a storm. Horseriding along the beach and mountains at Mountain View Riding Centre in Lisdoonvarna was the highlight for our daughter, who may return to work a season with them! Loophead's own cliffs and the bridges of Ross are impressive, and if going further north it's worth putting up with the commercialisation and booking the very reasonably priced, hour long boat trip from Doolin to see the Cliffs of Moher from the sea: the main sea stack is magnificent and you get to see puffins and hundreds of birds that have colonised the area. Also, the Dolphins in the Shannon estuary : we booked it from Carrigaholt (next to the friendliest, prettiest post office) - the two biologists on board were so informative about not just the dolphins, of which we saw many, but the whole area. You can get fresh fish, lobster, crab and samphire from Sea Lyons on the slipway near where you catch the boat and take it home on your return. Also, there's delicious ice cream and great breads at the Long Dock's deli. Good wines and craft beers at the Kilkee Off Licence a few doors down from Mace. But wise to stock up on fresh fruit & veg when you come past Tesco en route - or maybe that was because of the long hard winter followed by an historic heatwave. The whole place is beguiling: so Irish. Thank you Ciara and Damien, wishing you all the best in life.

Amazing location and a beautiful house

We stayed in this beautiful house for a week over New Year and were entertained with 2 powerful and exciting storms. The house has everything you might need - the log stove was especially great to sit around and warm ourselves on a stormy night. Although remote, the location is excellent for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way. There are plenty of decent restaurant nearby (eg. The Long Dock). Thank you to Ciara and Helen for being such helpful and responsive hosts. I cannot recommend this property more highly. Noel & Fiona.

Sublime

We have now spent 6 weeks of our lives in this fantastic location and every morning when you wake up and look out over the ocean you wish that you could have spent every other week. We last came here 11 years ago when the children were younger and played on the rocks. We have now returned with just one of them who is substantially older but loved it just as much. Much has happened to the cottage also in the intervening years. It has been beautifully refurbished and extended and now has one of the best shower views in the whole of Ireland. We cannot recommend this cottage more highly but perhaps we ought to just keep quiet and then we will be able to book another magical stay!

This wonderful cottage is situated on the cliffs, the stunning views over the sea are very nice and nothing disturbs the quiet atmosphere exept the „ noise“ of wind and waves. A good place to relax! Anniversary Stay in Clare

I know it sounds over the top but this property is a life changing memorable experience. We traveled to Ireland in June for the first time with our three grown children. Helen and Ciara were very prompt with all our questions about booking and payment beforehand. This house is very spacious and laid out well with lots of spaces for everyone to relax. Plenty of bathrooms with fantastic showers and no lack of hot water.mViews from everywhere. Helen even left us with "emergency" coffee and food as we didn't stop before we arrived for supplies and didn't want to run out that night. This location is very remote but we loved coming "home" to this space. It took us 3 hours to get to Dingle which was our longest day trip. Most places were 1-1.5 hours to explore Clare County. We went to Doolin, Ennis, Ennystimon, Lahinch, Kilkee, and Carrigaholt. There is a very nice butcher in Carrigaholt with a nice selection of meat, fish and produce. We had a rainbow outside our window and saw dolphins swimming by. Also I should add that Helen and Ciara should go into interior decorating but every touch was perfect. My husband arrived with a head cold and the sauna was a life saver. I can tell much love was put into this house and we felt honored they shared it with us Many thanks from the Foglesong's in Michigan and California

Fabulous oceanfront location

We loved our stay in Kilbaha. The cottage is tastefully designed, well equipped and the owner very prompt and friendly in all her dealings with us. The location is breathtaking and great for exploring the Loophead peninsula. A pint of Guiness and fresh cooked seafood are within walking distance along the coastal road. What more could you want!?

Absolutely recommendable

It says in the offer, "sleep to the sound of the sea" and this is perfectly true. The cottage is located on a cliff, where the only sounds you hear are from the wind and the sea. The view is breathtaking, the house itself is perfectly equipped, well-maintained and the owner is a kind and helpful person. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to spend their holidays in this part of Ireland.

A Little Piece of Heaven

Kilbaha cottage was amazing!! It had wonderful amenities such as a sauna which my husband really enjoyed, every kitchen item you could ever possibly need and a full washer and dryer. The views will leave you speechless! The cottage makes you feel like you are at home. Loop Head peninsula is a more secluded area which we really appreciated. Kilbaha Cottage totally surpassed my expectations! Thank you to Ciara and Helen for maintaining the home at such an excellent level. We will be back!!

Kilbaha Paradise

Lovely home - fantastic location. Inspiring moonrises and sunsets daily. You are living directly on the ocean - mesmerizing vies in all directions. Home was clean, bright and offered tremendous views. Host - Ciara - is enchanting. Local area is quite rural - you definitely need a car. Spent three days at local sites, and hiking. Several small and charming towns with much to do within 20+ minutes drive. Please do not miss the cliff hike in Kilkee. Kilbaha Cottage was exceptional.

Kilbaha Cottage holds many wonderful memories for me and my family and is a perfect place to relax and kick back.

Why they chose this property

I spent my childhood summers in this house and have wonderful memories of running to see the dolphins just off the rocks and collecting shells in the many rock pools on the shore. There are sailing courses for children in Kilrush which I enjoyed and of course the many picnics on the nearby beaches.
It's a very special house for adults and children alike.

What makes this property unique

Although the house is a holiday home it has everything you might need for your stay. The stunning view and rock pools draw you outside while the sauna is relaxing after a dip in the cove.
