The villa, built in the 1870s, sits on top of a hill overlooking green fields and vineyards towards the south and west. On a property of about seven acres, the garden offers complete privacy, and a variety of walks and quiet places.

This villa is not just a rental place, but the residence of a three generation family, who have filled it with an extensive collection of books and texts. It is a unique pleasure to immerse oneself in the quiet of this cultural oasis, away from loud crowds and everyday bustle.

Only ten minutes from the center of Lucca, the surroundings are open farmland, protected by the Cultural Landmarks Commission, with a church on a higher hill and farms and villas to dot the landscape. The area offers the best of what Tuscany is known and loved for: an unforgettable countryside, a beautiful medieval town full of art and precious boutiques, Summer festivals with opera and concerts, amazing wines, and of course renowned and unknown restaurants that will give great pleasure to those who appreciate the simple and sophisticated flavors of Tuscan cuisine.

I grew up in this house, and no matter where I am, a big chunk of my heart resides here.

Why they chose this property

Bell'Estate is uniquely placed in the only rural area that has been preserved very close to Lucca. This area was saved by the presence of the river Serchio, which flows about half a mile from the house. Its flood plain is under environmental protection, so it can only be used for agriculture, not construction. So instead of having to drive through 8-10 miles of industrial areas before getting to the hills, as it happens to the East and North East of town, on our side you can go to Lucca for dinner with a short drive through beautiful cornfields and poplar groves.

What makes this property unique

Aside from the beauty of the house itself, the expansive garden offers complete privacy from the outside world. It's an oasis of calm and greenery, with a pool that is so generous that most of our guests end up spending days there and never feel the need to go the beach (which is -in any case, only 25 minutes away).
