About this property

Tanglewood: idyllic two-bedroom cottage in Exmoor National Park

Tanglewood is less than a mile from the friendly Exmoor National Park village of Porlock, with its excellent range of shops, pubs and restaurants. Well-equipped and cosy, and with wireless internet access, the cottage has a large private garden bordered by a pretty stream. It offers easy access to coast and moor, with excellent opportunities for walking and site-seeing.

Tanglewood is a detached cottage on a quiet track in Hawkcombe Woods, a National Nature Reserve - so it provides peace and seclusion, while being within an easy walk of the village.

It has two bedrooms: one with a king-size bed and the other with two single beds. It has a well equipped kitchen, large lounge with cosy wood-effect stove and dining area and a sunny conservatory that allows you to enjoy the views across the valley whatever the time of year.

Outside, there is a raised terrace with table and chairs that overlooks the garden. There is also a table and chairs at the bottom of the garden, from which you can listen to the rush of the stream.

A tastefully furnished and lovely house

Well equiped and furnished. Amazing garden, patio and conservatory. Everything in working order. Very peaceful and beautiful environment. Walks on doorstep. Good choice of games and leaflets. At the top of a long and steep hill.

Fabulous hidden gem

Wow ! This little cottage was a great find. In a lovely position, could have done with a 4wheel drive ! But well worth it ❤️ Can walk to the village in 15 mins, try the Ship Inn pub. Visit Porlock weir and hire bikes. Get the bus to Lynmouth and Lynton . The weather was great and we we all had a brilliant time with our dogs too. Could not have asked for anything more. 🤩 PERFECT 👍

We could live here!

A total home from home! Everything you could wish for in a holiday home, including friendly neighbours. It has a warm, welcoming feel and really did feel like our home during our stay. There was so much to see and do nearby, we really needed another week to do it justice. The kids loved the stream in the garden, which can be crossed by bridge and paddled in a little further up the lane. Lynton and Lynmouth were just breathtaking (and Charlie Friday's family cafe the best EVER), we loved the local stony beaches which were quiet even in peak season and my 7 year old declared our trip to Kilve beach as the best day of her life, due to the abundance of fossils. Glad of a 4x4 mini for all the narrow lanes and hills though, including the one leading to the cottage. Would definitely visit again and recommend to friends and family. Huge thanks for a great stay.

Fantastic holiday again!

This was our second trip to Tanglewood. Once again it didn’t let us down! A well equipped house in stunning surroundings. Lots to do around the area -Woolacombe and Saunton Sands are just over an hour’s drive away, Lyndon and Lynmouth about 30 mins away. The house itself is so peaceful with trees all around and a stream at the end of the garden. No bbq is supplied so we took our own as there’s plenty of room on the decking to cook. We’re already planning another trip!

Secluded house in a steep sided valley

Narrow track, some unpaved, leads to a few houses in this valley of steep and mainly wooded sides. Tanglewood is a spacious 2 bed house with a big garden leading down to a secure stream. Off road parking is good. Well equipped in all areas. Comfortable. Good size bathroom, with a bath. Loads of windows let in the light. Gets am and pm sunshine ( we went in June ). Plenty of walks from the house and nearby. Best beach for us was at Dunster - sand, stones, groynes for windbreaks, shells to collect etc. We would consider going again to Tanglewood.

A brilliant stay, house and woodland area.

The house is perfect with everything we need, just a 10-15 min walk to the village and the woods are on the doorstep. The house has such a warm, homely feel about it, all 4 of us and the dog felt immediately at home. Thanks for having us, and we will be back next year.

Wonderful Holiday in a wonderful cottage.

The property was spotless, spacious but still cosy, in the most idyllic location. Fantastic garden, which our dog loved, surrounded by trees, very very peaceful. Enclosed parking. Walkable distance to a very nice village which had lots of eating places. Can recommend Piggy in the Middle. Thanks to the owners of Tanglwood for the milk, biscuits and fresh flowers etc. Which we found on our arrival. Fantastic location with plenty of places to explore. On the way to Lymouth the Blue Ball is a very good place to stop and eat, very pleasant hosts and lovely food, open all day for food which is a definite bonus. Porlock is a very dog friendly area where you can take your dog in many eating places.

A homely and spacious home during our holiday

Our second stay in this lovely cottage in the beautiful Porlock countryside. This is in an idyllic location in the Hawcombe Valley. Ideal to return to after a lovely walk with our dogs. A Homely and spacious cottage - feels just like home and so near to Porlock village for a lovely meal and evening walk. It is an absolute pleasure to sit comfortably in the cottage or in the garden when we have done enough walking in the valley or Exmoor. Thank you, Lynda, Allan and Janet - Surrey.
