Our cabin is located directly on the water on Bell Island in the beautiful LaHave Islands. It is easily reached by bridge and causeway from the mainland. The cabin is an ideal place for a quiet, tranquil escape from civilization. You can explore the islands in our two kayaks--one tandem--and our rowboat, or you can relax with a book on our wharf and enjoy the sunset view.
The cabin is two stories (16 ft x 24 ft) with an open floor plan on both floors. There is an 8 x 12 kitchen addition on the first floor.
The upstairs has four double size spool beds.
A separate bedroom building about 200 feet from the cabin has a queen bed.
It is a 200 foot walk to the bathhouse where there is a toilet, hot water shower, sink, and washer-dryer. We also have an electric composting toilet in a small outhouse that is closer to the house about 30 feet away. The kitchen has cold water only, but hot water is available in the bathhouse. There is no central heat. We use electric space heaters and a wood stove.
This adds a camping feel to staying with us, so please be careful to reserve only if you are willing to rough it a bit. Hotel-level amenities should not be expected. However, cell phone reception is excellent.
We are a mile from Crescent Beach and Rissers Provincial Park. Within easy reach is the famous Lahave Bakery and the Petite Riviere Vineyards, as well as Green Bay which has MacLeod's Canteen, a great place for ice cream and a walk along the shore after a dinner of local fish and chips.
Petite Riviere has a small grocery store and a liquor store. The Osprey Restaurant is a few minutes away. The town of Bridgewater, which is 20 minutes away, has all the amenities including two large grocery stores, a movie theater, and a shopping mall.
Picturesque Lunenburg can be reached in half an hour via the LaHave River ferry. There you will find the Bluenose schooner and the Marine Museum of the Atlantic, along with many fine restaurants. Blue Rocks is a short drive from there. You will also find an 18 hole golf course nearby as well as other attractions,
We do not recommend our property for families with children six years of age or younger. The wharf extends out over rocks and water (see photos).
Sunday to Sunday rentals preferred. We also rent for shorter amounts of time on request with a 3 night minimum.
Pets allowed: dogs less than 50 lbs per pet (limit one pet total)

Smoking
Smoking is not permitted
We discourage children six and under. Our wharf is not safe for very young children, especially if unattended.

This property and location was a perfect quiet getaway for our family of 4. We enjoyed the nearby beaches, kayaking, hiking, the wonderful local cuisine, and just relaxing on the wharf. The host responded quickly to any questions we had and the listing was accurate. We hope to visit again soon!
Stylish and secluded cabin surrounded by breathtaking scenery complete with the perfect sunset view. Close enough to several site seeing spots without feeling too out of touch. Beautiful walks from the cabin and many other walking options a short drive away. If we didn’t live so far away I would make this a yearly trip.
We all loved our stay here. The house is rustic, bare bones essentials. This is what made it perfect. Disconnect and reconnect with family and nature. Lots to do in the area, some within walking range.
We had a wonderful 2 nights stay in this rustic cabin located on Bell Island, NS. It rained most of the time and we even had a big lightning storm come through but we were cozy with the wood stove burning. Even in the rain, the views were amazing, relaxed and serene. We even took the kayaks out in the rain and paddled along the shore line, and went for a long beach walk. The cooking facility’s are basic but sufficient with a propane fridge and stove, electric convection oven, pots/pans, dishes and cutlery. You need to bring all food, spices, etc., but the water is good and there is plenty of wood for the fire. Overall this was a beautiful property to stay at with tons of atmosphere!

Not our best vacation getaway.
From day 1, we had ongoing issues with the internet and wifi not connecting or only connecting for 5-10 minutes, despite all modem reboots, freshboots and longboots (15-30 minutes)
We also had plumbing troubles in the bath house bunkie. The toilet tank would not refill after flushes so we had to manually refill it. The toilet base was leaking also.
We contacted the owner who responded promptly. Over the next 3-4 days (of our vacation) we had visits from 3 plumbers and a Bell tech to address the several issues, none of which were ever resolved by the week’s end
Bell technician at 8am waking us up. Nothing done. Still no internet all week.
Three different plumbers over 3 days, gasket changes, still leaking. Entire toilet replacement, still leaking.
And finally, the hot water heater thermostat and/or breaker kept tripping and needed to be reset daily resulting in more freezing morning showers than hot ones over the week.
The owner did refund us one day’s stay for the inconveniences which was appreciated but I feel that this, our second stay at LaHave will be our last.

The cabin is on an island off the coast. We are fortunate to have any internet at all. Marc is the first to complain about service. While he was there, we upgraded from wireless to fiber optic to address his needs. No other renter since has complained about the service.
When Marc said the toilet was leaking, we replaced it instantly. He said the new toilet was also leaking. The plumber returned to the island and concluded what Marc thought a leak was in fact condensation from humidity.

Isolation and Comfort
Initially difficult to find, even using gps. Very much off the beaten path. But once we found it, we loved it.
No air conditioning, no problem. Most windows have screens and no matter how hot the day is, the harbour breeze keeps the cottage temperature very comfortable. In fact, bring warm clothing even during the hottest season as the evenings get very cool.
There are books and games for entertainment but I suggest bringing a device (laptop, tablet or radio) if you enjoy music or watching shows. Wifi and cell reception are excellent.
A barbecue would have been nice as I love grilling. But we managed using the gas stove top and oven. The oven pilot light needs to be lit manually. You need to lie down on the floor to do so.
No hot running water in the kitchen wasn’t a problem. Using the basin beneath the counter, in the sink and boiling water on the stove made dishwasing possible.
There is a very cute but small general store 10 minutes away in Petite Riviere. It has the basics and a small corner dedicated to beer, wine and spirits. But it is quite expensive compared to regular grocery stores, the nearest one being close to one hour away. Same with gas for your vehicle. So I would recommend filling up with gas and a good supply of groceries before arriving at the cottage.
If you like beaches, Crescent Beach is only 5 minutes away and very nice and clean. Parking roadside or right on the beach is permitted and free of charge.
Not our first time visiting and renting on the South Shore but a favourite stay for sure. More rustic than some places but with some car camping skills (simple meals, nature over screen time) and a love of being right on the water, and it was simply wonderful. Views of sunsets and stars are unmatched and access to all the goodness of bakeries, artisans, general stores, and beaches beaches beaches that the LaHave area offers. Communication was clear and instructions well documented. Hope to be back again!
More spacious than expected., kitchen and toilet facilities more than adequate. Road in good shape but drive slowly! Beautiful and peaceful destination, would loved to have stayed a second week!

Rustic house with hundreds of ants

We had a temporary termite infestation which has been addressed. There is hot water but not in the kitchen. Please read our property description before renting.
My husband and I spent the week there with our dog and it was exactly the escape we needed. It is secluded and private, with gorgeous views both day and night. The property was clean and immaculately maintained. We hope to stay again in the future.
We just returned from a week at the cabin. It is a true gem!!
The cabin and location are exactly as described! It is very welcoming and comfortable! The kitchen is very-well equipped too!
The location is amazing! The views are breathtaking! The sunsets, sunrises and stargazing are all beyond spectacular!
Communication was wonderful - from pre-booking questions to the day we left.
The cabin and location provided exactly what it claims to... a quiet, tranquil escape from civilization!! A little piece of Heaven!! Thank you for sharing it with us!
We stayed at the cabin for a week in August and liked everything in it. The location is breathtaking (the view can’t get much better than that) and even if rustic it is very well organized and taken care off. Plus Michael is an excellent communicator and host. We will come back next year for sure! Thank you!
Location of property was beautiful but was quite a bit removed from sites of interest. Cabin needs an area for guests to congregate during the evening, ie. a comfy couch or a couple of comfy chairs. There was no where for us to sit other than at the kitchen table or our beds. We sat on the deck as much as the weather and the bugs allowed.

The cabin has a sofa. We also provide two rocking chairs for evenings around the fire.
We had an amazing week paddling, cycling, beach hopping on south shore with the cabin as our base camp.
The cabin is perfectly located directly on water with an incredible sunset view…and access to the islands for exploring directly off the property. The cabin is rustic, cozy, bright, comfortable with all the amenities necessary and lots of options for recreation, eating out in the area….
The property is remote; off the main road in a wooded area…but close enough to crescent beach for a quick trip.
The kids loved the loft sleeping area stargazing from bed or ocean watching in early mornings. It is set directly over the water with amazing ocean views on three sides.. There was lots of space for a family of four and another Bunkie building on site with a water view. The kids enjoyed hanging out there for crafts, or games….
There is a wood stove in middle of main floor which we didn’t use, but it would keep the cabin very warm if necessary.
We highly recommend this cabin for an active family or couple and hope to book again!
The property owner responded quickly with any questions we had and we felt well looked after if we had any concerns ( we did not).
Really enjoyed our stay on Bell Island at Michael's property. Was a unique stay, that provided such a wide array of experiences. Would certainly rent again.
Michael was an excellent host, who communicated efficiently when necessary and was very helpful with local geography and things to do.
Highlights of our stay would include paddling to Cape LaHave Island (via tandem sea kayak provided) -- enjoying the solitude of Cape Bay Beach to ourselves. Driving and hiking across Crescent Beach or hiking to the end of Risser's Beach (from the cabin). Petite Riviere General Store as well as the Winery were absolute gems.
Short day trips to LaHave, Kingsburg, Riverport, West Dublin, Rose Bay, Carter's Beach, Keji Seaside, etc were easily accessible.
Overall, just the experience we were looking for. The LaHave Islands are so beautiful.
The sunsets were beyond incredible!! Thx Michael.

We came to the Lahave area on our honeymoon in 1988. We came back the next year and bought land on Bell Island. Then, over the years, we slowly built what our kids call "Blueberry Hill." The cabin is a reproduction "fishhouse."
