About Bill and Chris Nixon

We are a family of die-hard Northern Michigan lovers that discovered this wonderful area as Honeymooners in 1969 and have returned every summer and winter since. We finally were able to purchase our own retreat and keep finding new places and experiences as well as frequenting old favorites!

Bill and Chris Nixon purchased this chalet in 1991

Why Bill and Chris Nixon chose Harbor Springs

We were drawn to this house because of it's great location , the skiing and summer activities, the relaxed atmosphere, and yes, I confess, I love knotty pine! After many upgrades over the years , I feel that we have established an atmosphere that not only we enjoy but others will as well when they visit.

What makes this chalet unique

Make your own memories in this wonderful area from our comfortable and cozy lodge. Children love the loft and judging from our now 3 or 4 guest memory books, all seem to enjoy their stays.

Guests provide their own bed sheets/pillow cases and towels which helps to keep our rates low and maintains each guest's own standard of quality as well. Blankets and pillows provided.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for another week of Northern Enclosure hospitality. Our extended family comes up north for a summertime reunion as well as seeing friends living in the area, so it's important to have a comfy accommodating cottage with room to visit, cook, enjoy the view, etc. We think Northern Enclosure is ideal! Thank you again!

Great location and excellent vintage chalet

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Northern Exposure in early January for ski trip. Two of Michigan's best hills are within minutes (seriously less than five minutes drive either way) of the cabin. We skied both Boyne Highlands and Nub's Nob and enjoyed them both. The cabin had comfortable beds, a nice fireplace and a well stocked kitchen. Even though we were there during an extreme cold snap, the cabin was warm and comfortable. It was also roomier than expected with a nice basement family room. Bill and Chris are great to work with and easy to book with. We hope to return.

Cozy and Convenient!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Northern Enclosure Lodge with our friends and family while on a skiing vacation and really enjoyed it. There was plenty of room for everyone and we loved sitting near the fireplace after each day of skiing. The kitchen is compact, but had everything we needed fro make breakfasts and crockpot dinners. The location is wonderful being so close to Nubs Nob and Boyne Highlands. The owners are super nice too. Very thoughtful and caring. We’ll definitely stay again!

Very relaxing, clean, and well stocked

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my 4 adult kids, and my parents stayed here. It was perfect! Had enough space for everyone. I had the lower level BR and the bed was very comfortable, my parents had the bedroom on the main floor, the 3 girls had one side of the loft and my son had the other side. Even though there was no air conditioning the ceiling fan with the front and back door open allowed from a great breeze. Chris and Bill were great to work with, the wifi was not working when we first arrived, they had someone out to the house by 9am and it got fixed right was on the side of the internet company which had to be reset by them. The kitchen was so well stocked, there was nothing that we needed. Had caphelon pots and pans, plenty of cups, mugs, dishes and silver where. Cooked several meals including breakfast and dinner. The only suggestion that I would make, is there were no blinds to cover the big sliding door at night which faced the road. Would recommend this place and would stay again if we go to that area.

A great place to relax and get away

  • 5 of 5

We had about 10 people and never felt cramped in. It was an affordable place that made you feel like at home. It was clean and neat and warm. The furniture was nice and the beds were comfortable. I really like it when I found out the water pressure in the shower was strong. We had cable to watch NHL playoffs and it was on HD TV's. The location was great as it was close to a store, a restaurant and ski hills. We will definitely try to make it back.
