For my family this was a great home away from our home for a time.
We enjoyed the setting in the Black Hills. We had turkey in the yard in morning and deer every night. Yet the drive to town was less than two miles. We enjoyed the fire pit and the deck made grilling convenient. The house itself was very good. I'd give it five stars but for the absence of WiFi
Very nice and clean. Saw dear and turkey in back yard. Best place We have ever had
The layout of the cabin was very nice for our situation. My wife and I stayed upstairs in the 1 bedroom. There's a full bath upstairs and a loft/sitting area. We turned the A/C on several times but generally the cabin temperature was comfortable without it.
Our son and daughter-in-law and their kids stayed on the main floor with two bedrooms and a full bath. It was nice to have a little separation, as much as I love grand kids.
One night we did dutch oven chicken in the fire pit outside. I brought the dutch oven and we bought briquettes at Walmart in Rapid City (about 25 minutes away). Another day we slow cooked ribs in the oven and then moved them to the outside propane grill to finish them.
The grand kids loved hearing the train horn as it was coming near. They would run to the deck and wave at the passengers.
We washed a few batches of clothes in the washer and dryer. The dishwasher helped with the kitchen chores.
The cabin is on a paved road a short 2 miles from Keystone. So it was very convenient to the restaurants and attractions.
We had a lot of fun at the Big Thunder Gold Mine tour. After a tour of the mine we did the gold panning. They showed us how to do it and we found a few gold flecks to put into a bottle. It was fun to learn how to do it.
We went to Rapid City twice for various groceries and supplies. One day was slightly marred at a restaurant in Keystone. We spent about an hour inside the Railhead restaurant. After a delay we placed our order, although we never did get our kid's menus that were promised. Several times during the hour our waiter came to apologize for the delay. After seeing several tables being served who had come in after us, we finally gave up and left. We had ice cream cones crossed the street for dinner. It may have been that the waiter was new or just on something, so perhaps your experience at the restaurant will differ.
All in all it was a very comfortable place to stay. It felt like home for a few days. I would recommend this as an excellent and convenient place to stay near Mount Rushmore, Keystone, Jewel Cave and other attractions in the area.
We loved this property! It is in a perfect location close to everything. The description is very accurate. When we arrived everything was well kept. We had the opportunity to see a lot of wildlife because we were so nestled away. The train passing through is a great addition for the kiddos. Our only issues were: the air conditioning is a window unit and it would get hot during the day but at night it was ok and there is only only garbage can(with eight people it filled up pretty fast). I would recommend this place to anyone it works great for a family vacation spot and Susan is great to work with!!
This place is awesome!!! There is everything you would hope for. It was very clean and was perfect for our trip. We wanted to feel like we were actually staying somewhere, not just sleeping in a hotel. This is exactly what we received here. It was close to everything very easy to get to and from with ease. We will definitely be back for another trip.
Our four night stay was super fun. We were in close proximity to Mt. Rushmore and downtown Keystone. We had daily driving adventures with one or two specific excursions per day. You must stay in the Black Hills when going to South Dakota!!! We loved coming home at night to the firepit and grilling! We played bocce ball and soccer and the kids just ran around. The steam train comes by the property and it was so fun to see. The owners were super responsive when we needed additional gas for the grill. We will return to this property!!!! Location, location, location!!!
