Best View of Any Zihuatanejo La Ropa Beach Condo!!!

Bedrooms 1
Space 1,000 sq ft
Property type condo
Minimum Stay 5 - 7 nights

About the property

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-4)

Well by now you have likely read many other descriptions of how beautiful and friendly Zihuatanejo is, and how close the lovely La Ropa beach is to all the vacation rentals there.

You have also likely read that La Ropa beach is very good for swimming, so on any given day you will likely see a couple hundred folks in the water having fun. Su Escapada has all this just like the more expensive places, but there is something here that you will not likely find at other rentals in the La Ropa area…peace and quiet and PRIVACY.

And here’s why- at Punta Penasco (the building name) there are ONLY four units in the whole building (just four!). What you will be renting are the TWO top floors with the TWO top ocean-view decks. Unlike larger condo developments, you do not have people coming and going day and hotel atmosphere here.

Su Escapada is QUIET and PRIVATE.

The upper deck is off the bedroom and the next one down is off the living room. The other three units here are occupied by other gringos who may or may not be here when you are.

The building is usually totally yours to enjoy during the day, and mostly at night as well. You might find it nice to not have others around when you wish for a private swim in the pool as the pool is rarely used.

These two decks, one off your upstairs bedroom and the one off the living room (both with 100% beach/ocean views) are totally private and not seen from other units (wink-wink).

Su Escapada, in the four unit Punta Penasco complex, has something else that you will long remember…it is at just the right height above the beach that allows only the pounding sounds of the small surf to be heard day and night - NOT A PEEP of the jet skis and parasail powerboats can ever be heard unless you are down near the beach itself.

And here’s another nice feature of Su Escapada- you have a 99% guarantee that you will have a nice sea breeze coming in from the ocean year around. What this means for you is that the air conditioning is rarely needed.....or even the many ceiling fans for that matter.

Just keep the huge glass doors on both the upper and lower decks open and the back windows open and the cooling effect is usually perfect as it flows through the house to keep you cool and free of A/C noise.

Of course the A/C is always there should you wish it. Even the many fans will not be needed as a rule thanks to this gentle breeze. All this adds to the peace and quiet of your vacation that you will long remember.

And if you are the type that enjoys keeping in touch while you are on vacation, Su Escapada offers high-speed DSL wireless internet. In fact, you will be able to even use the wireless signal poolside if you wish. And you will find all the news you can stand and hundreds of commercial-free music stations with the WiFi internet radio on the living room level.

Taxis are cheap in Zihua IF you agree on the price before you get into the cab. With a one minute walk down to the main (only) road you can snag one of the many taxis going by day or night. Su Escapada phone works for local taxi and pizza calls and incoming calls from home. The city bus for downtown stops nearby as well.

But if you want to skip a taxi, just another four minute walk from there will get you to the many waterfront restaurants. One of which is Paty’s- known for the best shrimp cocktail and tortilla soup in all of Zihua.

Zihuatanejo, besides being a safe clean friendly town, it has one of the most user-friendly airports you will ever use. And La Ropa beach is just a 20 minutes drive from the airport (ZIH).

At this point it’s necessary to bring up a few things you should know about the Su Escapada so you will be well informed as to what is being offered here. First, be aware that there are a fair number of stairs from the parking lot up to the pool area, and then there are another three level of stairs to the front door.

If you have problems with stairs do not consider staying at Su Escapada. Next- This well cared for condo has never known the smell of a cigarette- absolutely no smoking inside or on the decks- in fact this is a no smoking building in total. Please, if you are a smoker do not rent here. You will loose your security deposit if you smoke here.

Finally, please no pets of any kind.

Sleeping arrangements- the upstairs bedroom has one huge bed (8’ wide x 6.5’ long) and there is one full bathroom on this level. The two sofas downstairs serve as twin beds and can sleep two adults or children (over 13 only please because of the drop from both decks is considerable).

There is a full bathroom on this level as well. The kitchen is well equipped to dine four people. To keep rates low, maid service is not included with stays under 10 nights. Should you wish daily maid service, please let me know so I can arrange the level of service you wish to have. Maid service is $20 USD/day used.

Remember- you have a clothes washer and dryer right in Su Escapada so personal items and sheets are done easily by you if you wish.

RATES: Minimum stay is five nights, and seven over Christmas/New Years. Weekly rates shown are based on five nights. For stays of 30 days or more, please contact owner for special rates. There is a $250 fully refundable security deposit requested with final payment 30 days prior to arrival. Lock in your dates with a 50% deposit. Cancellation policy- 100% credit for future stay up to 90 days prior to arrival/no credit or refund after 90 days prior to arrival.

About Jim

We were first attracted to live here because of the safe and economical living conditions, and that is still what keeps us here.

Jim purchased this condo in 2006

Why Jim chose Centro

We bought in Zihuatanejo because it is a friendly easy area to get around. It is clean and safe with good medical care available. And when we stumbled on this condo, with a view like being up in an airplane, it was all over.

What makes this condo unique

One of the great delights of Zihuatanejo is the 'mercado publico', the public market in the Centro...downtown. The fruits and vegatables come in from the local farmers...really, just a BIG farmers market. And the fish market there has everything and soooo fresh. And because we are just a four unit building, the atmosphere is quiet, private and friendly. AND have you ever seen a better view?

We spent a month at this location and found ourselves a little piece of heaven. The complex is not big and neither is the pool but it is quiet and private and a lovely place for relaxation. The stairs and driveway are a bit daunting until you do them and then they don't seem anywhere near as bad as imagined. The condo unit itself is very well equipped and the view from both decks is amazing. It is a very considerate welcome when you arrive and there is cold beer waiting for you in the fridge, a fruit basket, and coffee for the morning. We never needed the a/c we kept the doors and windows open and with the ceiling fans and ocean breeze it was very comfortable the whole time. The bbq on the main deck was a bonus and the housekeeper and the groundskeeper did a fabulous job. We would definitely recommend Jim's unit to our friends and come back. Even though the walk up the driveway and the stairs is a good workout a cab is very cheap if you only want to do the stair. I would say the only thing that was missing from our little bit of heaven was someone to bring us our morning coffee to the top deck as we watched the sun rise and our evening cocktails when we watched the sun set!!!!(hahaha)

Thanks Jim for the great location & condo that surely added to one of the most memorable vacations we've had

Owner's Response: Thanks Diane for the glowing review. I can tell Zihuatanejo treated you well. Your note tells me I need to add another coffee maker to the upstairs bedside shelf. Love to have you back again. Thank you for trusting us with your vacation experience. Jim

Perfect location in Zihuatanejo

  • 5 of 5

This was one of my all time favorite VRBO rentals for its price- you've found a jewel if you're reading this! If you've never been to Zihuat, La Ropa Beach is the best area to stay (best swimming and nicest beach). This unit is a five minute taxi ride from downtown for dinner, ten minute taxi ride to big grocery store, and about a ten minute (steep) walk down the hill to La Ropa Beach and the beach bars.

As for the unit, the master bedroom had a perfect view and a very comfortable bed and pillows. The cold welcome beer, basket of fresh fruit, and locally ground coffee waiting for us upon arrival were such thoughtful gestures. There was even laundry soap for use. In the past, my parents stayed right next door at a much more expensive place and besides the pool area, I liked this one more. Even though there's no infinity pool, you do have an infinity couch view (don't fall out the window)!

We made it to eight different beaches in six days by walking, taxi to water taxi (60 pesos) or by bus (7 pesos). The manager (via email) answered our gringo questions right away throughout the week. In summary, members of my family have stayed at VRBO units all over the Yucatan Peninsula and Pacific Coast of Mexico, and this was one of the best rentals for its price.

Private retreat with an out-of-this-world view

  • 5 of 5

We knew this place was special from looking at all the wonderful pictures Jim has posted on VRBO. In the months between booking and traveling there we would bring up the photos just to build the excitement. From the minute we walked in, till the time came for the taxi to take us back to the airport, we never got tired of the view. The decks were our morning coffee setting, our lazy afternoon location reading a good book in the comfortable lounge chairs, our pre dinner setting with a margarita to watch the sun going down, and finally our late evening destination to watch the city lights and twinkling stars.

This place is private. The north side of the condo had no windows which is good as there is a complex right next to his. There are no curtain on the windows or sliding glass doors. As Jim told us there is a nice breeze so we had the windows/glass doors in the front and back open 24/7. There were no bugs and no issues of people seeing inside.

As other reviewers have testified, the walk is strenuous. Our Fitbit recorded 20 flights of steps up from the ocean. Don't worry, the pool is just the ticket to cool off after coming up. In our humble estimation the view is well worth this effort. For those who like to walk, it is only a 20 minute walk to get into town.

Jim, the owner, was prompt with responses to our questions and very honest about the areas restaurants, the walk up to the condo, and local activities. A bonus is the speed at which he sent us our deposit check(within a week).

Favorite restaurant: La Terracita

Favorite activity: Patio Mexica cooking class with a market tour

Favorite relaxation: Massages on La Ropa beach

Would we go back? Without a doubt -YES!

Great Host, Nice unit

  • 5 of 5

From the planning of our trip, through the length of our stay, Jim was an amazing host, helping us with trip planning details, activities etc.. The unit was a comfortable size for a mom and two teenagers, and the views are amazing. Bonuses include the washer/dryer, being met upon arrival, and the jugs of potable water provided (and the welcoming cerveza in the fridge!

The Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This condo was amazing. It was our first time to Zihuat nd the location of the condo made it very easy to get around. La Ropa beach was right below us and it was a fabulous beach. Jim is excellent to deal with and his place was very clean and had all the amenities we could ever need. He even got us some champagne glasses after my daughter emailed him that we were having our 35th anniversary there. She asked him to get us a cake and champagne and he did it!!! Then he brought over champagne glasses for us to use. He is fabulous!

The pool was very clean and we swam every day. And the neighbors were fabulous too. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance. We liked Paty's, Jungle Pizza, and the Trattoria. Don't forget to take a trip downtown. It's an experience.

Just make sure you can walk uphill cause the condo is at the top of a very steep hill and then our unit was at the top of the building. Pretty challenging walk! But it helped to counteract all the Corona we drank!! We really loved our stay at Punta Penasco.

The Only Way to Zihua!

  • 5 of 5

Here's a suggestion if you are traveling to Zihuatanejo, especially during the peak season- take advantage of this unit.

From Su Escapada you are a short walk to Playa La Ropa, which is right where you want to be in Zihua. The thing is, so does everyone else (with good reason). But you may take solace knowing that you do not need to be on the beach or at some nice restaurant when the sun goes down. There is not a better view of the sunset in Zihua than from either one of your two balconies. (This includes Restaurant Tentaciones! Not worth the admission for Su Escapada residents)

My wife and I wanted to experience Zihuatanejo by lounging on the beach and by being out and about. Playa La Ropa is hot and happening; the view of the ENTIRE bay from the balcony is breathtaking and the breeze up there provides perpetual relief. We found the balance between these two worlds and their proximity to one another to be the perfect match.

You are a short enough walk to town. The trek up from La Ropa is a short distance but a strenuous incline. Reaching the bottom of the stairs turned out to be a relief in our journey home. Not nearly as much as the pool though.

The owner, Jim, lives nearby and was willing to help if we needed anything, but we did not see him outside of our planned rendezvous on our first and last days. He was most helpful orienting us when we arrived. His activity/restaurant recommendations turned out to be some of the highlights of our stay. All 4 units were occupied while we were there. Two were traveling couples and one resident couple. I am always concerned about feeling intrusive around VRBO owners or nearby residents. We bumped into everyone at some point or other and felt totally welcome and comfortable. The pool has some light construction wrapping up in front of it right now so its view of the bay has been obstructed from water level. You will find this to be an insignificant matter when you see the lounge chairs on your top balcony. My wife and I killed an entire day back and forth between the pool and laying out on our balcony.

This being our first visit to Mexico, just a couple other things I wondered about prior to going. 1) Purified drinking water was provided on a dispenser stand and refilled when needed via front door delivery of (a 5 gallon?) water container. 2) Following Jim's testimonial, we did not bother taking precautions with the water out of the sink. We washed our veggies and brushed our teeth with it. No problems at all.
