We were very sorry to hear that these guests felt our house in Brittany was not well presented. From what I can gather with my limited German, the reviewer said that the kitchen was not clean on their arrival and she had to start the holiday by cleaning, This should not have happened and we have spoken to our cleaner to ensure that it does not happen again. Also, if I understand correctly, she said that the rubbish had not been collected from outside, It would appear that previous guests had either forgotten to put the bin out for collection, or had left a lot of rubbish on their departure. This could easily have been rectified if they had asked the person who manages the house for us, to remove the rubbish for them. We will however, ask the council to provide us with an extra rubbish bin so that the problem should not arise again. The other major complaint was that the house was damp. This may have been a problem on this occasion, as previous guests had blocked one of the toilets, despite having been asked not to put anything other than toilet paper in the toilet. As a result of the blockage, the garage and basement were flooded. We thought it had all dried out and been rectified but there was maybe some residual dampness. It is wrong, however to say that the whole house is damp. The rest of the house, which is by far, the majority of the living space, is dry, bright and airy. The open plan kitchen, dining room and living space is flooded with light, with windows on both sides and french doors leading on to the garden, It is absolutely not damp. Nor is the adjacant large living room which is airy and spacious, with a double height ceiling and french doors leading on to the garden. The 3 upstairs bedrooms are small but bright and airy, with lovely views looking on to the garden and sea. We have never been aware of any problems with damp. I am sorry, that these guests were not happy with the house, but it is not a description of our lovely Breton house by the sea that we recognise. Nor indeed is it a view that we have heard from any of the friends, family and guests that have stayed over the years. Most people love staying, and many come back year after year. We will take note of the complaints and hopefully the house will not disappoint again but continue to provide a lovely base for a Breton holiday next to the sea.
