Marlborough Sounds relaxation with great views: close to Queen Charlotte walkway
Our holiday bach has proven to be a wonderful base to explore the magnificent Marlborough Sound and Queen Charlotte Walk Way, to charge the personal batteries and deepen relationships. Guests from Wellington took the water taxi to the Tirimoana jetty straight off the ferry. Friends used it to improve fitness and successfully competed in the Ironman in Taupo. ( by swimming between the Anakiwa jetty and Tirimoana jetty: about 45 minutes, cycling to Portage and back: 2h 50min, and running to Davies Bay: about 40min, and half way point: 1h.10min,) The BBQ has been used by some well known New Zealanders to cook up gastronomic feasts. The kayaks have been used to pick some mussels and explore the Sounds Native pigeons, wax-eyes, robins, fantails, weka's, Tui's and bell birds entertain the eyes against the fern tree clad background. The sound of the gentle running creek ensures restful sleeps. Arriving will be easy, Leaving very hard.
The main house has 2 bedrooms: the master bedroom and a single bedroom with a bunk bed. The beds are standard 80cm wide, which some people feel is narrow The sleep-out which is separate of the house has been renovated and is ready for the summer holiday season. The sleepout has a toilet, basin and a cold shower The house has road access. There is a boat ramp close by. There is a single and double kayak with the house and kayak and mountain bike hire 2km down the road The house is not suitable for small children due to the high decking around the house, where they could fall off. The house/sleepout accommodates 4 comfortably, but has a Queen, double and 2x2 bunk beds (8 sleeping spaces in total) Special conditions: If you use our linen, please wash and dry it (washing machine and dryer on site)
Extras: Linen (Optional, NZ$10.00 per person); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and wash/dry the dishes before you leave;

We had a lovely peaceful and relaxing stay. A very private bach with beautiful views of the sounds and surrounding native bush. We awoke to beautiful native birdsong each morning. We felt completely recharged at the end of the week and very much hope to return.

Thank you for being greatfull guests. We love to share this special place with likeminded people. It was a suprise to find the house so clean and the washing done and the rubbish rermoved. We would love to host you again anytime! All the best and thank you again.
We relaxed straight away. Loved the view, the bird life, the bush and exploring the stream at the bottom of the garden. Easy access to the queen charlotte track and the wharf to jump off were also great.
Our family had a lovely stay in Anakiwa. Weather was amazing, awesome deck, awesome views and bush. House was all we needed and was comfortable, shower needs improving. Everyone enjoyed the house and views. Thanks
This bach is located in a beautiful setting up a hill, surrounded by native bush & with a view out over the sound. The deck is perfect for sunbathing or breakfast outside in the morning.. after waking up to the birds singing & the sun beaming in from the east. We had fun paddling around the bay & walking down the track for a swim. If you’re looking for somewhere to totally relax but still have a few things to do during the day, this is great!
This is a true home from home batch. Native birds a plenty to listen out for and close to a good stretch of the Queen Charlotte track. Highly recommended if you truly want to escape the 'rat race' for a while.

Good to see you had a great time. You were great guests and it would be nice to host you again in the future.
We’ve rented a few Sounds places over the years but this was our favourite. A fantastic wee bach. Great views of both the bush and the water. Warm and cosy space. Lovely gardens. The kids had a ball exploring the path down to the stream. Property is on the hill but our toddlers were fine with the walk to/from the beach. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This is how I remember Kiwi batches.
This is how I remember Kiwi batches. It is as described on the website, its not modern and its not perfect but its great. The location and privacy were spot on. Nearby Kayak and mountain bike hire were very reasonable and saved driving back and forth to Picton and Havelock. Perfect for exploring the Sounds and chilling out.

We really enjoyed our short break here - lovely location, very comfortable and clean and lots of helpful comments from the owners in the visitors book. We enjoyed the use of the kayaks and we found walking on the Queen Charlotte track straight from our door was a real bonus. Best of all was the time spent relaxing on the deck with views of the Sound and the valley full of birdsong - idyllic!
