The host tried to please, but it wasn't enough for me to stay more than 1 night of a 3 night stay. It was really hard to find a place. Guest parking was full (I suspect is always is), so I parked down the street. I arrived after dark and there were no lights on inside or out - I had trouble finding the address. There wasn't a warning notice about 'quiet time' which is when the kids go to bed. So before 8pm the noise is a problem. It was cold and if you are sensitive to smell, it's a problem - there was a chemical smell like new paint and the linens are laundered with heavy perfumed detergent. Again, the host tried to please but it was all just too much. I did not ask for and nor did he offer a refund for the 2 days I did not stay.
Nice little basement, very clean, just renovated. The bed was very comfortable. Location was convenient for us. The host is very responsive and accommodating. My issue was that the listing did not exactly describe the property - it was positioned that the basement is a one bedroom apartment with 2 beds, but there was just one bed, no table to eat although there was kitchenette to cook. Also another tenant was using the same kitchenette which was not shared with me when I was booking/checking in
So, the place was clean had a bed and small kitchen and all that. However, the listing did not mention that to get to the suite you had to go through the general entrance of the house and walk a bit down a hallway to their kitchen/living room to get to the basment apartment unit. The family seems like lovely people but we felt uncomfortable with how to get to the place, especially with them having two young children, which also seemed lovely. We were in Guelph for the Pirate Festival. And while being quite is perfectly fine, I worry about waking up the kids, even if you do your best to be quite at midnight or even a bit earlier or later, as you have to walk through the house to get to the basment. I booked it because it was very affordable. But I would not have booked it if I had known about the entry situation. I'm not sure if there is a feasible way for them to change that but at least add it in the listing. It felt like being a teenager living in the basement and trying to sneak down to my room without talking to my parents about where I've been. But it was clean and nice. I didn't even sit on the bed as we left and didn't stay the night. I wish the family all the best.
