In 30 years of VRBO, I have never given a poor review. We rented the home for a three day weekend wedding. When we arrived at 6 pm, the lockbox did not work. We contacted the customer service contact for the rental multiple times by phone and by text. We then escalated the property management company, Evolve. It ultimately took 30 minutes to find out that the keypad had been changed from original instructions. By then our takeout dinner that we had purchased was cold and our frozen and refrigerated items for the weekend war warm. That was not the worst part. When we entered the home, it had not been cleaned. We proceeded to contact the customer service contact and Evolve. After over 2 1/2 hours waiting in the unclean rental, we found out that the cleaning staff could not come in on such short notice in the evening. During this time, we looked at other VRBO properties in the within 60 miles and there were none available during that time at any price. The Evolve company gave me two options.1) clean it ourselves and stay the night and they would refund the cleaning fee2) refund our entire stay and fend for ourselves. In the meantime, the other rep found a unit in the complex that we could stay in for the night then move to original unit the next day. So we did at 10 pm. Evolve and owner refunded our cleaning fee but no part of the rental fee. We understand that problems happen. But the poor communication was unacceptable. The owner never followed up.
