Welcome aboard First Mate’s Retreat! A unique and cute 2 bed / 2 bath nautical lake house has the best views of the Chain O` Lakes. Be amazed on the walk out lake view wood deck in the back yard, and watch sunsets fall over the bay and color the sky. The back patio is a great place to relax, entertain & relax. Fish or dock your watercraft at our pier if needed. There is a 4-5 person hot tub on the back deck for you to relax and unwind (Hot tub included in the price on this property). Welcome to our beautiful lake home, your completely remodeled, cozy 2 bed / 2 bath retreat. Central air, heating, and ceiling fans add to the home`s comforts. Use our Wi-Fi to stay connected if you’d like; otherwise, take a break and enjoy one of our foosball table, Nintendo Classic loaded with 100+ games, family board or card games! Head outside to take advantage of our paddle boat, (2) 10` kayaks, or just fish right off our pier, or just relax & take in the beauty of the lake from the deck and NEW hardscaped patio & fire pit area. With all our lake house has to offer, you`ll never want to leave!

Guests will be able to access all parts of the inside and outside of the home. The only interior inaccessible part of the home is the utility closet for the cleaning and spa company to store supplies. On the outside, the deck, patio and pier is accessible to the guest.

This home is 1 of 6 lake homes directly on the water in the Bay on the Chain O` Lakes.

Our driveway only fits 4 small or mid size cars, or 2 SUV/Trucks at a time. You can get to most of the popular Chain O` Lakes spots within 10 minutes in either direction. There is plenty of Uber or Lyfts in the area if you need to get around without a car. Want to go visit the city? The Metra train station is several minutes away by car.

Bring your fishing gear. There is good fishing in the Bay and in channels. Our kids catch large bass, catfish, bluegill and perch right off our pier in the back yard.

This is a popular house for Naval families to visit and cheer on their boot camp grads since it is only a half hour from the Great Lakes Naval base.

This home is designed safe and secure, and is equipped with a Smart Dead Bolt lock that controls check in and check out times, and has a door camera feature to make sure the correct guests are entering our home. All for your safety and to protect our home.

The driveway is smaller and can hold (4) small to midsize cars MAX, or 2 larger trucks or SUV`s tight. The entrance road and its an old tight road. Be careful pulling in and out of the driveway. Pull in and out very slow. If at all possible have other guests help you back out.

Amazing location

This house definitely met our needs. It was right by the lake and great for my grandchildren to kayak and fish. The fishing wasn't very good but I think it had to do with the heavy boat traffic over the 4th. The house was well stocked for our cooking needs. The hot tub was also great, especially in the evenings. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.

Ran into a couple hiccups in our plans and they were very communicative and willing to adjust if necessary as they were able to. Also quick communication and someone able to be on site super fast when we had an issue during the stay. The back of the house faces west over the water so you can watch the sunset from the hot tub. Would love to come back again when the weather is better!

We enjoyed our stay very much. The property is charming, well stocked, clean and has tons of space. The hot tub is a nice touch, and the view is gorgeous. We would stay here again and highly recommend! Great job Steve & Willow, setting a good name for VRBO!!

What a wonderful stay on this Chain O Lakes property! Comfortable for adults and grand child. Quiet neighborhood. Enjoyed the hot tub, the kayaks, cooking together, the fire pit and the gorgeous sunsets. Hosts were very kind and responsive. My grand child loved visiting with the geese every morning. Family quality time well spent at this wonderful lake house.

As soon as we arrived, I INSTANTLY felt the tension leave my shoulders and knots disappear out of my neck. I went straight to the picturesque backyard lakeview & listened to the ducks and birds until sunset that was magestically magenta. I HAD to go LIVE on Facebook!!! Everyone loved the post & chimed in. It was thee perfect start to my birthday weekend! I was intimidated to operate the grill but the owner was MORE than happy to call us and carefully walk us through - step by step. Now , we're bonafide experts .... LOL, self proclaimed - that is. The jacuzzi was the cherry on top! We enjoyed it very much, almost as much as the firepit. We sincerely hated to leave. The lines of communication were EXCELLENT & EXPEDITIOUS, very friendly. Our only complaint is the way the water smelt, a little swampy. But I guess that maybe something out of their immediate control. Coming from NYC, it was a great getaway and change of scenery. Beware, if you make plans in the city limits of Chicago, leave 3 hours prior to your ETA. NO EXAGGERATION, distance and traffic are A!L!O!T!

Great place to relax by the lake!

I stayed here with my husband, 18 year old son and 15 year old niece. Everyone loved the house so much, it was great to be able to go kayak and pedal boat out on the lake. The hot tub was great after a day spent at Six Flags which is only about 20 minutes away. We also enjoyed roller skating at the nearby rink that was only a few miles away. We would definitely recommend this place for families, it was great!

Everything was as we expected. The place was perfect for our family week-end getaway. The pictures posted on the site really depicted every detail, very accurately. Super cute deco, very clean and in a nice location. We especially appreciated a full functioning kitchen . The host immediately replaced the coffee machine at our front door when it is reported that is was not working properly. That was amazing,. I very much appreciated the great communication. The dock was in great shape, and area deep enough to use for our 25" sea ray boat too. Defianltly would stay again.

Comfort and Beauty on Fox Lake

We had a great week at Steve and Willow's place on Fox Lake. The view of the lake and birds was lovely from the slider and windows. The queen bed we used was comfortable and had smoooth sheets. Relaxing in the hot tub each evening after a day of walking (41 miles on the boots in 6 days) soothed the bones, and the kitchen with gas range, oven and broiler produced many fine meals. Steve and Willow were easy to work with and they kept in touch via email to offer suggestions and see if there was anything we needed. The house is just across the street from a lovely forest preserve, and within about 10 miles of four other forest preserves that provided hours of beautiful walking. Would we come back - you bet!

Great Views, Great Property

We did enjoy our stay at this property. There wasn't too much to do for my kids (ages 2 and 4). We thought we were closer to a beach. There was a private beach nearby but it was unclear if we were able to use it. The owners are very friendly and responsive and communicate regularly. There was a small issue that popped up during our stay and they came over to fix the problem that night. Just a heads up, the well water did stain my ring, my daughter's blond hair, and a white shirt of my husband's from a load of laundry we did while staying there. My ring came clean with cleaner when we got home. Not the biggest deal with the shirt and hair but a heads up if you have anything super important. Either request early check in or have a plan B for things to do if you get to the house early. The door doesn't unlock until 4 on the dot. We would. Definitely consider going there again. It might be better for slightly older kids. Very clean, well kept, cute decor.

This property has simply an amazing view of Chain O Lakes with a direct view off the back deck of the most amazing sunsets. Its a quite lake house neighborhood on the lake front. When scouting a new lake house for the next vacation rental, it became very clear the moment we seen the views on this house, that is would be a perfect vacation house for many who visit it!

What makes this property unique

It does not get any more lake house than this property. It just feels like an old lake house, but modernized with a fresh feel. The back deck is our favorite part of this home. It is like center stage for thousands of beautiful sunset picks over the Bay. Both bathrooms have luxury rainfall showers installed so you will never enjoy daily showers more. The open floor plan is great for family to be in their own space, but yet still together.
