Beach House on Spaans Lagoon with Private Pool + Help on Site

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft + Office, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

Villa Wattstraat sits at the base of Spaans Lagoon Beach Road, a mix of residences and rental villas along the southern coast of Aruba, east of Reina Beatrix Airport, off the beaten path and away from, but accessible to tourist amenities.

The house was first renovated in 2005 with the addition of a pool, privacy walls and second floor observatory now used as an office and sleeping loft. With our purchase of the property in 2008, the house has undergone additional renovation, been completely redecorated and includes up to date electronics.

With the freshest fish available and meal preparation at your option, choose to unwind at home by the pool, walk down to the beach, snorkel in Spaans Lagoon or head into town for shopping and tourist amenities. At night, decide between dinner at home under the stars, beachfront dining a short walk down the road or head into Orangestaad for the nightlife with the option of the restaurants/casinos around Eagle and Palm Beaches.

Our maid Jean lives on the premises in separate quarters. She is sensitive to our guests desire for privacy and remains inconspicuous.

About The Owner

We're an American Family with two elementary school-age daughters who live most of the year in the midwest. I'm a businessman and travel extensively. My wife is an attorney, currently on hiatus, raising the girls. We love to travel and be by the sea.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Pos Chiquito

We've visited Aruba for so often it's become our second home. After years of looking at island residences close to the tourist areas we fell in love with Spaans Logoon and the easy lifestyle there. It's a close-knit neighborhood with walkable groceries and restaurants. Mango Halto Beach is just down the beach road with ocean access for swimming and snorkeling all along the shore. We cherish every sunset and are down every chance we get.

What makes this house unique

Because we're on the ocean (Spaans Lagoon) we have all the water sports at our convenience, the pool gives us a place for the kids to play. The fishing dock across from the house provides the freshest fish and endless amusement for the kids. The house has Internet and home theatre so we feel at home technologically. Of course the perfect weather and gorgeous sunsets from our balcony are priceless.

This was the 2nd time we stayed in this home. We loved it so much the first time we just had to come back and this time brought the kids! There are so many things about this home that we love--the location, the pool, the bay and the local fish market, the ocean and the snorkeling, the floor plan and space available, hanging with the locals...

i.e.-We walked out our door and bought fresh fish (red snapper, tuna...)from the local fisherman. We walked a few steps behind the house and took an awesome kayaking adventure, we threw our snorkeling gear in a bag and walked a few minutes down the street to a beautiful stretch of beach and snorkeled out to the sunken boat, the mangrove trees and the reef where my kids were able to see parrot fish, urchin, sea stars and even an eel! Truly was a trip they will never forget!

If you are one of those people who loves to stay in tourist town, this house may not be for you, but if you are like me and you want to get a feel for what life is like for the locals, get a feel of the culture and just absorb all the natural beauty of the island (not the big business tourist traps), this house is perfect!

I love it because it feels like the best of both worlds. All the amenities of high class living (beautiful clean home, A/C, pool...) while living like a local for a week or two!

Fantastic Trip!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best trip ever at the Beach House, and cannot wait to return next year. We look forward to returning to this house every year. My son and his fiancé came and spent a few nights with us, and they say they have to come back with us next year. They had the best time at Baby Beach. We have been telling them about this place, and now they know what all the fuss has been about. We all had the best vacation ever, so glad we could share this special place with the special people in our lives. Thanks for sharing this fantastic house with us.

Great Time

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our vacation to Aruba and this house. If you like to be away from the throng of visitors this is a great location. The house has everything you need (pack spices and salt and pepper) and a nice outdoor area with the pool and a grill that looked new. The only issues that I can think of is the bath between the two bedrooms is very small. Though the master bath is quite large. You also do not have 24 hour access to the laundry. There is a person that lives on site that takes care of the cleaning of the house and will do your laundry for a fee. You can get fresh fish from the boats right next to the house and there are some great restaurants on that end of the island. B-55, Marina Pirata (you can walk to), Flying Fishbone and Zeerover. Rent a jeep and see the sights, come back to the house and sit on the upper porch and watch the sunset with a cocktail.

Some people want their vacation and their vacation rental home to be familiar, sort of like their home, but with palm trees. They want to be near other vacationers who are also striving for the same thing, crowded beaches, bad calypso music, endless buffets, sugary over-priced drinks, with a touch of theme park for the kids.

Other people want to escape from all that. They want seclusion, a shimmering pool with NO ONE ELSE AROUND beyond the walls. They want access to Town without being in Town. They want to walk a few hundred yards to a charming, local restaurant and bar and eat what the locals eat.

They don’t want to see a soul if possible, just the caretaker bringing them fish caught right off the front yard. They may even enjoy the old factory, shades of Aruba’s past rum manufacturing, standing silently across the street as they barbecue that fish from earlier. All while drinking some rum or a local brewed Balashi beer, as the pool reflects the Caribbean moon off its surface, and the trade winds blow through.

If you are the latter, go here now.

Paradise in Aruba

  • 5 of 5

This is our 4th trip to Aruba and the 1st trip we stayed at the high rise hotels on the north side of the island and was not very happy with our stay. The hotels and food were very expensive and I did some research and found the villa at Spaans Lagoon and this is why I have been back 3 more times and planning another visit. This villa is PARADISE and is a perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of tourism but close enough to drive to the city (15-20 minutes).

All the photos are very accurate of the property and it is very well maintained and the property manager Christian is very helpful and friendly.

There is a small grocery store near by for necessities and a very good bakery across the street. The best grocery store is in town Ling and Sons and this is where we shop and if you like fresh fish just a few steps to the docks where the local fisherman go out daily and the red snapper boats come in around 9:00-10:00 AM and the grouper boats arrive around 4:30-6:00 PM and if you need any help the locals are playing dominoes every afternoon and ask for Charlie or Alex and they speak good English and are very helpful. Also they will fillet your fish for dinner that you can grill or blacken on the side burner on the new grill.

The afternoon and sunsets are very beautiful from the top deck during happy hour and the views are outstanding of the ocean. We have been all over the Caribbean and this is our favorite vacation retreat and I highly recommend this property for a fantastic stay in Aruba.
