Whitehall Villa Rental Photos and Description

Villa, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 2-8)

A departure from the usual villa rental holidays, Butler's is a private historic retreat with a Great House and Cottage on 6 acres of a former plantation situated atop the village which shares its name. Butler's House and Cottage comfortably accommodates up to 10 guests and is only rented to one party at a time so guests have exclusive use of the pool & gardens regardless of how many bedrooms are rented.

Nestled in the foothills of Butlers Mountain, the property commands sweeping sea views with an intoxicating landscape of colour and fragrance. Spend your days lounging by the 35 foot pool while gazing out to the sea or take a stroll through the ruins and extensive gardens. You may discover an artefact and even run into a family of green monkeys.

Butler’s House is and feels like a home and comfortably sleeps 4 adults and 2 children under 16. Tastefully decorated with an eclectic selection of antique and sympathetic modern furniture, you'll quickly ease into the comfortable surroundings of the House. Butler's House has two Queen-sized bedrooms with generous bathrooms. The third bedroom features a comfortable daybed with trundle and its own video viewing.

Butler's Cottage, a Nevisian-style home, bridges the gap between the 17th century property and modern day by reflecting the elegant simplicity and homeliness of the historic Butler's House. Sitting contendedly on the Upper Terrace, the Cottage is close enough to the House for ease, yet far enough away for privacy. It is rented out in conjunction with the House and accomodates

2 adults and 2 children under 16.

The Cottage, measuring 23 ft x 23 ft with an 8 ft verandah, is open plan with a simple kitchen, a bathroom, bedroom and living area. There is a Queen-sized bed (in the bedroom) and a daybed with trundle in the living area.

Housekeeping, pool cleaning and a gardener are included. A cook can be arranged with advance notice. Wireless, cable TV installed.

Guests have exclusive use of the house, pool & gardens regardless of how many bedrooms are rented.

Upon arrival to Nevis, a taxi will bring you to Butler’s House where our local agent will greet you and answer any questions. Our agent will book the taxi and can also arrange your rental car. Your first dinner can be arranged and food supplies provided.

About Tim Cornes

In 2005, we bought, restored and rennovated an old plantation home (circa 1700's) on the charming island of Nevis. We never really knew what we had until the restoration process began. During that time, my late wife Diane and I realised that--like owners before us-- we are caretakers, ensuring Butler's will be around for many generations to come.

Tim Cornes purchased this villa in 2005

Why Tim Cornes chose St. Kitts & Nevis

We fell in love with Butlers House immediately we came across it. The privacy, seclusion was wonderful and the challenge to renovate a historical property was too strong to not take the challenge.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Butlers House is even more beautiful than the photos. We loved the fabulous ocean breezes and magnificent rainfalls. The grounds are superb, so many beautiful areas to photograph.

We spent mornings having coffee on the veranda and afternoons at the pool and beaches. Evenings dining in and out.

Can't think of a better way to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We have found a bit of paradise in Nevis.

The perfect honeymoon

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have hoped for a better place to enjoy our honeymoon. Our stay at Butlers was breathtaking, incredibly comfortable and left us with so many fantastic memories. The slightest mention of Nevis or Butlers leaves us with a smile on our faces.

We loved spending times on the terrace and by the pool, taking the time to unwind with beautiful panoramic views and incredible weather. Whether it was for a nap after lunch, to read, to watch wildlife or swim, the outdoor areas were perfect for us. I've never felt more relaxed, more quickly, on any other holiday.

When we weren't sunning ourselves outside, the indoors were perfect too. Like the rest of the property, the photos and video on the website do a great job of showing what an incredible property it is. Whilst we stayed as just a couple, the property could comfortably accommodate the extra people suggested on the website, either enjoying time as a large group or separately thanks to the number of seating areas.

There's so much more to do but Nevis is not somewhere to rush around and tick off a list of attractions. Nevis is best enjoyed slowly and often without a plan. Taking time to enjoy the little things about the island is what made the trip for us. Slowly walking the streets in Charlestown, speaking with an amazing woman at the Newcastle pottery cooperative, waiting for a herd of goats to slowly move off the road, watching hermit crabs climb over a tree, the list goes on. If you're lucky enough to visit Nevis, make sure to take it easy and stop to look/talk to people.

Tim and Kay were fantastic in ensuring our arrival was simple and our stay perfect. Kay helped arranged transport from the airport, water taxi to Nevis, a hire car ready at the property and food on our arrival, which helped us immediately relax and enjoy ourselves. We were given plenty of ideas for what to do, where to go and how to enjoy our time on Nevis.

We've already recommended Butlers to family and friends. We'd love to go back!

Wonderful Stay

  • 4 of 5

First let me start by apologizing that I forgot to rate this gem! We stayed in the winter of 2014/2015. The calendar will not let me go that far back, so I chose a date similar, but one year forward.

Honestly, I had never heard of Nevis and didn't know what to expect when my sister decided to renew her wedding vows on the island. I did a little looking around and decided on Butler's House for my family (me, my wife, our grown son, my father and my mother). There was plenty of room and we truly enjoyed our stay.

It's a great little island to get away on. There isn't as much to do as some other islands, so you don't feel obligated to be doing something all the time. It gives you a nice excuse to do nothing and just relax and watch the daily parade of monkeys in the yard.

The island is rather small, so there is no problem exploring it all in just a day or two and then knowing it almost like a local! There are some really great restaurants (Golden Rock and Dos Gringos were our favorites).

The only negative was the like of air conditioning (and I would only knock off half a star if that was an option). We were there between Christmas 2014 and New Years 2015 and it was a bit warm some nights. It wasn't real bad, just a little uncomfortable one or two nights. Mostly the breeze is enough. I can only guess summer time could be really bad.

(neat little trivia we put together once we got home...on the road up to the house is a little convenience store that is open most days. It is called Butler's Domino College, and is the same as the one mentioned in the Jimmy Buffett song "Domino College.")

Owner's Response: Dear Tom, It is so good to hear from you and we are so glad that you had a wonderful stay at Butlers House and Nevis Island. Thank you so much for your feedback. As you know being at 700ft above sea level and overlooking the Atlantic with uninterrupted views it affords the home the most idyllic breezes in the day and night but very occasionally the Leeward Tradewinds just doesn't want to blow like it does most of the time. We do have new portable fans should anyone wish to use them on the occasional night that Mother Nature has decided to not to blow like she normally does. Once again, so glad you found Butlers House to be a Gem to stay at. All the best, Tim

Perfecto!!

  • 5 of 5

Excellento! Big Smile. Champ. It seems the most Nevisians have names other than their given name. So to does Butlers House - it is Perfecto!

From the moment you drive up to the well-coiffed and manicured property and set foot on its terraced slopes, you will be enchanted. Both inside and out, the loving attention to detail that the owners instilled in the property is palpable. The lemon oil that the cleaning lady rubs on the mahogany furniture and the bougainvillea enliven it with fragrances and the sunshine and beautifully planned lights at night make it sparkle from sun up to sunset. The house is well appointed with quality amenities from linens, towels and kitchenware.

It was easy to book and the property manager, Kay, was very helpful procuring a car rental and surely would have been a font of information if needed.

I would recommend this authentic and lovingly restored property to anyone. We had 2 people (a couple) our first night and added another (adult child) for two subsequent nights. We comfortably slept 4 but you could sleep 5. We only wish we stayed longer but the place was booked so we only stayed 6 nights.

Incredibly Perfect Caribbean Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Ahhh Butlers House! Thinking of it just makes me sigh, it is so perfect. It's an elegant yet relaxed plantation house and cottage set in large landscaped grounds with a pool. Views, comfort, privacy and nature are abundant. It's a wonderful place to unwind and relax into the rhythms of island life. This is a gorgeous, large property, high above the ocean and small hamlet of Butlers. There are constant breezes that waft through the cool stone house, which is beautifully decorated yet inviting and comfortable. I could spend a happy week here without ever leaving the giant veranda, which has two sofas, easy chairs and a large eating table. Make a rum punch, listen to the rustling palms, watch the monkeys play and take in the ocean in such a wide view you virtually see the bend in the horizon. Tim and his wife had a vision for this place that has come together so beautifully. From the design of the gardens which incorporate ruins from the plantation's past, to the beautiful swimming pool, to the high-up cottage ... it is just perfection.

Everything you need will be taken care of by manager Kay. For example, she arranged pickup from St Kitts airport, right down to the name of the taxi driver, who took us to a private boat that sped us to Nevis, and was met on the other side by another taxi. Not a step was forgotten! The housekeeper comes twice a week, the lovely Camilla, who is fun to chat with.

On our first night, Kay arranged for us to have a wonderful dinner cooked and brought over to the house. It was a perfect beginning for our time at Butlers. We ate the delicious carrot cake for several days.

There are lots of adventures you can have hiking up in the hills -- we did bird watching with a guide. There aren't a lot of birds on Nevis compared to some other islands -- plantation owners imported mongoose which rid the island of snakes but also the birds! A great experience nontheless. Driving anywhere takes 20 minutes or fewer because the island is small. Watch out for wild donkeys and goats! All adds to the atmosphere.

I cannot recommend Butlers House enough. It would be great for a group of friends or a family of several generations. The cottage is beautiful in it's own right, and can hold --say-- a couple and child while a larger part of an extended family occupied the main house. It is a very flexible setup. Just writing this makes me long to go back.

Owner's Response: Dear Melissa, I am so pleased to hear that you and your friends enjoyed your stay at Butlers House and the Island of Nevis. There are so many things to do on the Island and bird watching is one that I certainly will do when staying at Butlers next time I visit. Tim

There is something magical about Butler's that I can't put into words, you just have to experience

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in Butler's House for over a week. We can not say enough wonderful things about this sanctuary where we could watch the monkeys play every evening by the pool, take walks to nearby hiking trails, and enjoying meals on the veranda overlooking the ocean. There is no air-conditioning, which was an early concern for me before we booked--as it turned out there was no concern for the lack of A/C. The elevation at Butlers allows for the beautiful ocean breezes to enter the home and it stays cool, even on hot days (I think A/C might even spoil the experience as renters may want to turn it on vs. enjoy the cool breezes).

If you stay, ask Bernice to cook you some authentic West Indian meals, she's a wonderful cook. We spent countless hours in the pool--nets were provided to help keep the pool clean on the days it wasn't cleaned by someone. You can pick fresh fruit from the garden, including mangos and limes. Monkeys will play on the roof some mornings and are around the property--they provide ample entertainment and they are not intrusive in the least.

Although the property is not located on a beach or next to resorts, everything is within a short driving distance (keep in mind that the most time any drive will take is about 20 - 25 minutes to the opposite end of the island) so most beaches and restaurants are within a 10 minute drive, so you will need a car.

Butler's Village is great, Jimmy Buffet's famed Domino College is a short walk away. People wave to you everywhere you go, and Butler's Village I found particularly welcoming. It is not developed in any way, it is truly a quain caribbean village, which was perfect for us.

If you're looking for a posh, slick type of atmosphere, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you prefer a true caribbean experience and want to completely unwind and relax, Butler's is for you. It is a comfortable home where you feel like you can curl up on the couch and lose yourself in a book, cook a gorgeous meal in the kitchen, or take a shower in the bathroom with the windows wide open, overlooking the garden and flowers and wildlife, the property is incredibly inviting, calming and private. You feel completely safe staying at Butlers as well as on the island of Nevis.

There is something magical about this place that I can't put into words, you just have to experience it for yourself.
