About this property

Le Plessis-Le Lierre - Loire Valley-Amboise, 18th Century Farmhouse, Pool

Yes, you CAN have it all! Experience the magic of the French countryside in this charming, roomy, lofty apartment in a 250 year old country, stone farmhouse.
Located just 15 minutes away from Amboise, one of the most visited cities in France, it’s the perfect starting point for an enchanting discovery tour of France’s glorious historical past.
The Loire flows majestically through this historical castle-studded valley, recently listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Fields and forests are the views from your cozy nest.

The farmhouse loft has just been renovated, with a new kitchen, and a new inviting cool blue swimming pool.
With leafy gardens around, the pool is perfect for cooling off if you are here in the summer. Deck chairs are provided.

A separate entrance with a sturdy staircase takes you up to the spacious 2 bedroom loft (900 square feet), where you will marvel at the beautifully exposed, original, rough-hewn beams and stone walls.

The main bedroom has a California King sized bed, and includes a sitting area, and 2 windows looking over the Valley.

The large, dormer window, glassed entrance, and round oeil-de-boeuf window in the second bedroom, flood the room with soft light and provide a pleasant view of the original 16th century well, and farmhouse grounds.
This bedroom has a double bed, and is separated from the salon and kitchen area by French doors.

The spacious living area includes 2 sofas (one becomes a double bed), and flat screen TV, with international channels included.

The new and modern bathroom with its comfortable, large oval soaking tub/shower stands in harmony with the ancient beams and angled walls. We enjoyed searching high and low for the antique furnishings.

The functional kitchen is equipped with cooktop, oven, microwave, drip coffer maker, refrigerator, dishwasher, and all you'll need to create meals from the fresh meats and produce found in the local, open markets.
There is a full sized washer/dryer combo (washing machine that also dries).
There is a dining table which seats 4.

This lofty apartment is equipped with WiFi and Free Long Distance phone calls.

If you are here in the spring, summer or fall, you, too, can explore the local vide greniers (community garage sales) or the many antique stores in the area. Treasures can be found!

Explore Amboise, only 15 minutes away, with it’s fortressed walls, ancient clock-tower, the Royal Chateau d’Amboise, and the special jewel, Clos Luce, the magnificent home where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last years of his life, now a museum and tribute to his genius.
Just 30 minutes away by car or a delightful bike ride is Chenonceau, the darling of the Loire Valley Chateaux.
Nearby, Chambord with its many turrets or Vilandry, with its amazingly beautiful ornamental gardens of colorful vegetables should be next on your agenda as they shouldn't be missed.
Wine enthusiasts will also be delighted by and abundance of wine tasting cellars in the area-Vouvray, Chinon, St Nicolas de Bourgeuil, Sancerre, etc. Local wine estates welcome visitors.

If you’re the outdoor type, one of the longest and most picturesque bicycle trails in Europe as well as section of the Grande Randonnee (France’s answer to the John Muir Trail) pass through Amboise, for your cycling and hiking enjoyment.
Bicycles can be rented from several locations in Amboise or if you bring your own, we can shelter them in our barn.

You can visit the twice-weekly open-air market in Amboise, along the Loire, and pick up something delicious to eat.
If you had your big meal in the afternoon, as the French do, you can enjoy a simple light meal at home, with a crusty baguette from our village bakery, that you've picked up fresh-baked in the morning, or you can purchase a sampling of Madame Bodet's (our neighbor) chevre (goat) cheeses, which this region in France is known for, or buy sausages and other meats from the local animal reserve, Beaumarchais.
Your meal will be complimented with a robust red wine or sparkling, slightly fruity Vouvray from one of the many local wineries.

Feel like going out ?
Our village is the home of the Restaurant Auberge de la Brenne, renowned for its gastronomical sampling of local specialties.
There is also a plethora of restaurants in all price ranges from country casual to city elegant, within 20 minutes of the farmhouse and we’d  be happy to recommend some to you.
The charming French owners of this historic, stone farmhouse, Muriel & Michel, are glad to offer assistance by pointing you in interesting directions.
They hope to make your stay not only one you will long remember, but one you will long to return to, time and time again !

French Country Paradise
My friend and I stayed at one of the manager's great Paris apartments first, before opting for a French Country experience. Our stay in this huge apartment, over what was once the stables, was paradise. The tall ceilings, the amazing beams, and exposed stone. It was historic, but modern, with fast Internet, free calls to Canada, and English T.V. channels. We were minutes from Amboise, a town with lots to see, including DaVinci's home, the Royal Palace, and the open market. There was a yummy bakery in the small town, and a very upper end restaurant too - delicious! The owners of the farm were so nice and helpful, and the grounds well kept. We especially enjoyed feeding our left over bread to the friendly sheep in their field, and relaxing under the oaks, after visiting a chateau per day. We highly recommend this rental to families who want to discover the Loire Valley, and experience the best of the French countryside

Paradise in the French countryside.
My husband and I stayed in Le loft for a week last year and couldn't have been happier. It was everything we had ever dreamed of and even more! I'm writing this so late because I thought I had written a review but then realised I had only written in the guest book at Le Loft when we left. Everyone should know how wonderful this place is! We had just finished a fairly hectic 5 week tour of the UK, followed by visiting World War 1 and World War 2 sites in France so we were really in need of a rest. We found the place quite easily , thanks to Steven's very good directions and with help from our sat nav. We were greeted warmly by Steven, but Veronica wasn't there as she was away and not coming back until that night. When she did arrive she had the flu and was sick the whole time we were there for which she was very apologetic but she really needed to rest, which of course, we understood. Le Loft itself has all mod cons whilst being a very old farmhouse. The bed was comfortable, it was peaceful and quiet, beautiful views from the balcony---everything you could ask for in farmhouse accommodation. We had a great thunderstorm one night that went on for hours with lightning constantly flashing through the forest next door--it was wonderful. We even had visits from green tree frogs because it was quite humid and even hot some days we were there. Thank heavens for the ceiling fans! We were able to get our washing done there which was piling up after so long on the road without stopping for more than one night and Steven kindly helped with the washing machine and dryer. He was also most helpful with things to do in the surrounding areas and we only managed to cover a fraction of what he suggested! We did go to the local famous top class restaurant, Auberge de la Brenne which he recommended and we had an amazing meal there. There is just so much to see in this area and Le Loft is a perfect base, much better than staying in a hotel in a city. Just go there and see for yourself---you will never regret it! it's perfect.

Everything we'd hoped
My wife and I stayed here and it was fantastic. When one thinks of a farmhouse loft in the French countryside, one thinks of a place like this. A beautiful location and so much nearby! Plenty of space to go for walks in the day, easy access to Amboise and the many castles of the Loire Valley. The hosts are very gracious and extremely helpful. The loft is absolutely wonderful--spacious and clean. The amenities were perfect; "normal" plumbing (for an American) and enough media access to get connected the few times we needed to. Just a wonderful place and a wonderful experience. I can't imagine that there's anything better.

Fantastic!
My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in September. Found it a little hard to find but what a treasure when you do! A beautifully furnished and clean apartment/loft, beautiful surroundings - better than the photos. Veronica and Steven were very kind, more than helpful in answering questions/concerns. Loved the delicious fresh tomatoes from the garden which Veronica kindly let us pick, also raspberries, chard and beetroot. It is a little out of the way, about 15 mins from Amboise, but a pleasant drive. Lots to see and do, 4 nights wasn't long enough. Absolutely recommend it!

Gorgeous country getaway after glamorous Paris!
My partner and two children, 9 and 11 stayed here for close to a week in July this year. Veronica and Steven were charming, warm and fabulous hosts. It was more than we expected. The French countryside is beautifully picturesque and the farmhouse doesn't disappoint. We loved the openness, the fresh air, the green fields and forests and Adem especially loved climbing the huge weeping tree in the front yard. Veronica's hospitality is as sweet as her raspberries and green plums and we're desperate to go back.Thank-you for a wonderful time, it was perfect and I wished we'd stayed longer in Amboise (a gorgeous village with it's own river and Chateau) and the farmhouse! Till next time xx

Quaint, country apartment
My spouse and in-laws decided to stay here for 2 nights. Steven and Veronica are very nice and willing to provide you with information, maps, gps, and recommendations. The apartment is on the top floor (not exactly an attic) in a farmhouse with loads of sheep, 2 chickens, a horse, and a dog. Keep in mind, the apartment can be difficult to find on the first try and is about 10-15 min from Amboise.

Stay here. Period.
We just had our first trip to Paris and the countryside and this was THE highlight. The home and property are charming and Veronica and Steven are delightful. The hardest part was leaving to go back to Paris. You should stay here if you if you're visiting the Loire Valley.

Wonderful Retreat!
My husband and I spent a lovely 8 days here. It's easy traveling distance to any of the castles and less than 10 minutes from Amboise. The farmhouse is charming and from the entryway to the apartment you have a lovely view of the french countryside (complete with sheep) and the owners sumptuous garden which they shared with us. The kitchen allowed us to take advantage of both the garden and the nearby markets. Madame and Monsieur were very helpful and went above and beyond in giving us information and even taking care of me when I came down with a cold. It was just lovely!!

a charming place to stay in the Loire valley
The location of farmhouse is great for anyone who wants to visit the chateaux in the area. Amboise is not too far and we went there repeatedly. It's now one of my favorite places. This loft looks just like it does in the photos. It had everything we needed, and more, (even a sweet dog!) The owners were so helpful: they provided us with lots of information on what was in the area, when were the best times to go places, good restaurants, etc. They left lots of brochures around for us to read. They were also planning to expand the loft to add another bedroom. There is a beautiful ever-expanding flower and vegetable garden in the yard. One of my favorite things to do was listen to the birds in the garden in the morning. It was so relaxing! very different from the honking car horns in the city. The view out the back door was beautiful. Seeing the different green fields made for amazing photographs. It was fun to buy local ingredients and cook a few meals in our kitchen. After a day of sight-seeing, it was nice not to have to go out hunting for a place to eat. We became very fond of the owners and did not want to leave.

Perfect
Le Plessis was all as described in the listing and shown in the photos, and even more. The loft was very comfortable for the 3 of us and even with the warm temperatures, the ceiling fans provided plenty of cool relief. We literally had to make ourselves leave the tranquility of the farm to explore the amazing chateaux and other sights nearby. Everything we wanted to visit was within 15 to 30 minutes from Le Plessis, in various directions - so it is nicely centrally located. Veronica had us feeling at home immediately upon our arrival, and continued to provide suggestions for sights to see and places to eat that she felt we would enjoy -and she was right on! Our favorite activities were to either sit out in the shade with some fresh bread, cheese, and wine or stroll through the garden, grazing on the fruits, especially raspberries. We never ate a breakfast or dinner at the loft without finishing it off with the delicious raspberries (so we considered our walk through the garden as exercise with our dessert!). We enjoyed the sweet Tallulah, reminding us of our dogs back home, and the 3 girls clucking about the yard. I highly recommend Le Plessis to anyone that can slow down and enjoy the peace of the French countryside. Our only regret is that we could not have had a longer visit. We'll just have to start planning our next trip!!

An oasis of peace
What could be better than a clean, comfortable, and peaceful apartment in Loire? Veronica and Steve's barn loft is that and much more. They are great hosts and seem to provide everything and more for their guests. We felt at home on the first day and after four days we felt sad to leave our 'farm friends'. The bouquets of fresh flowers on our tables were such a pleasant surprise and made us feel that Veronica and Steve would pamper us, which they did in every way. We had spent five days in their wonderful Paris apartment and loved every minute of that but when we got to the farm we realized how much we needed nature, peace, and quiet. Gypsy, Babette, and the 'red one' Rita (pet chickens) were such a joy as we sat by Veronica’s rose garden to watch the sunset every evening beyond the pasture. We also enjoyed Fabian, their farmer neighbor, who brought his horse Beauty and Beauty's companion Romeo, a goat, to graze in the pasture every day. We would love to be there now to enjoy the harvest of tomatoes and other vegetables from the garden. This is a first class place to stay.

We have always dreamed of...
We have always dreamed of staying in an old farm house in France and we found it! Steven and Veronica have done an incredible job transforming this georgeous old farm house on a fabulous 21/2 acre piece of farmland. The loft area of the old house has been converted into a one bedroom suite which is where we stayed. It was so quiet and private. We had our own area of the yard to relax in for reading and dining. The constant company of the 2 pet portuguese chickens made it all the more special. Fresh eggs from their summer home in the mint bush was the crowning glory. To top it off we just fell in love with Steven and Veronica and unlike other VRBO homes we had a special engagement with them as our hosts that will bring us back every time we come to France. We came as tourists and left with dear friends and a place in France we will now call home. Enjoy, enjoy. This a special opportunity.

Many people have stated very eloquently the joy they experienced staying in the loft. They have not exaggerated! Prior to spending 6 days in Paris, my husband and I were there for four days in early June. We had previously been in Normandy and at Mont St Michel for four days. During the two weeks we traveled in France, Le Plessis was FAR and AWAY our favorite place. The country side was gorgeous and the loft attractive, comfortable and cozy. It was great to relax at the farmhouse after a long day of chateau and winery hopping. The very best thing about our stay there was the hospitality displayed by our hostess, Veronica (sadly, we did not get to meet Steven). She was very kind and generous in sharing great information with us about Paris. It is quite obvious that she is a true Francophile. I would encourage anyone who is thinking about traveling to France to visit the Loire Valley and furthermore, to experience Le Plessis, a truely enchanting kingdom.

You will never encounter more friendy, helpful, or hospitable hosts than Steven and Veronica. I highly recommend staying at any of their properties.

We spent a week in April 2008 at Le Plessis and found it to be quite convenient for exploring the Loire River Valley. Visits to the market at Amboise was one of the special treats of this location. The market is large and varied with plenty of parking. The condo is up a short flight of stairs to a private entrance. It is well-appointed with access to cable TV and many books about the local area. Veronica and Steve are delightful hosts who readily share additional information about the area. The immediate countryside provides several attractive routes for walking, jogging or biking. A boulangerie and a good restaurant are nearby when one tires of cooking. Bob and C.K. Wedgeworth

We had the privilege of staying at the farmhouse in April, 2007. It was a wonderful experience. The farm is located a few miles from the town of Amboise and near to many of the famous chateaux in the Loire valley which we visited during our stay. Steven and Veronica made us feel very welcomed. The accommodations were all we envisioned a 200+ year old farmhouse would be. The guest apartment was spacious and quaint, and all the extra amenities had been provided including tourist pamphlets and info about the area, a stack of videos and movies if we wanted to spend a quiet hour in the loft, and fresh farm eggs compliments of Joon and Julie! We had many good conversations with Steven and Veronica and they gave us an opportunity to visit their other gorgeous property which overlooks the chateau in Amboise. We will have no hesitation in revisiting this warm and friendly couple and their wonderful farmhouse on our next visit to France. Denis and Ethel British Columbia

Our time in the loft was wonderful. Steve and Veronica are the most welcoming hosts and were very helpful on where to visit and where to eat. The loft was spotless and very roomy with a wonderful bathroom. One night we cooked dinner using many of the vegetables and herbs picked from the garden. In the mornings we gathered plums and strawberries. The farm was a delightful place to stay and we felt more like we locals and a part of the Loire culture rather than a tourists. As we are animal lovers we also enjoyed the lovely Talulah, who would greet us and make us feel very special. After The Loire Valley we traveled into Paris where Steve and Veronica helped us by giving us many tips on where to visit and where to eat. We loved our time in The Loire Valley and staying at the farmhouse, we would be delighted to recommend it.
