Welcome to our house, which was built in 1896, and renovated by our artist family in the 1980s. It's an old fashioned apartment - we live here, and you're like our downstairs tenants for the time you're here. We'll leave you alone unless you need us.
If you're going to the Eastern for a concert, we're a great place to stay. You can walk there from here.
Close to beltline, highway, buses and subway, shopping, restaurants, parks, downtown. Good for walkers and bikers. Come stay at our house!
Please note that our apartment is on the ground floor, what some would call a basement apartment, except that it is a full daylight apartment, with windows in every room except the bathroom and laundry area. And it's private.
As a fully-functioning self-catering apartment, we've furnished our guest quarters to a high level of cozy comfort, with wool rugs over original wood floors, antiques, original artworks and handicrafts, a well-stocked kitchen (coffee and teas), fully-quipped laundry, shower/bath, eclectic books and dvds, comfortable sleeping. It's so quiet that you won't know when it's raining outside - yet we have wooden floors, so it's not always silent. The apartment is comfortable for a maximum of three guests, and is not fully childproofed.
At the entrance, a serene living room rich in blues and reds, with original pine floors. There's a full bookshelf, and an ample video library with a flatscreen smart (roku) TV, where you can watch local channels, dvds, and netflix. There's a comfy couch for a third person to sleep on, with blankets and pillows.
The bedroom is done in restful greens and blues. Original art adds a little whimsy to our vintage '70s wooden furniture. Plenty of dresser space, an enormous walk-in closet, king-sized pillow-top mattress, cotton sheets, plenty of blankets and quilts, and a large choice of pillows. A smart TV means you can watch Netflix etc while lying in bed.
There's a sun-drenched, fully equipped, well-stocked, eat-in kitchen with a gas stove and a full sized fridge. Everyone likes to spend time in the kitcen, it's so spacious - from the table you can see the whole apartment, and gaze out through our woods into far Cabbagetown.
Beyond the kitchen is the laundry room with a washer and dryer, an iron and board, and a bathroom with tub and shower, extra towels, and all the essentials. We've even tie-dyed our towels!
We have ceiling fans and an air purifier to freshen the air; the windows open and are screened for those balmy summer nights; fans and window A/C units cool the apartment, central heating in the winter: you control the temperature.
The apartment is roughly 800 square feet, and full of light - one half of the ground floor - 5 windows. Outside there's a patio table and chairs for your use (especially for smokers - we're 420 friendly but keep it outside), and a gently sloping wooded back yard with a winding path that leads to another, more secluded seating area and fire pit. It is uncharacteristically quiet for such a busy part of town. You can listen to the crickets, the distant traffic, the MARTA trains, feel the breeze, watch the sky, try to spot the elves. As long as you enjoy your stay in our little bit of fairytale land.
We are surrounded by restaurants within walking distance, even markets and supermarkets. The Zoo, a Victorian era cemetery, the Beltline, The Eastern concert venue - they're all here. We're barely a mile from downtown Atlanta and all its conferences. You couldn't pick a more convenient place, tucked away under the trees, right in the middle of everything.
There are about a dozen well-lit brick steps and several concrete landings to negotiate on the way to your front door - the apartment is not suitable for handicapped guests or small children who aren't responsible for themselves. The apartment is not childproof, but more like "grandparent casual."
We live upstairs with dogs, so pitter-patters and assorted thumping will be heard at times. We keep them away from above your bedroom ceiling until around 10 in the morning, in order to give you as much peace as possible. The pets have absolutely no access to the apartment. It is your space with your own entrance, and was a rental apartment for decades before we decided to offer it to everybody.
During the summer, the air conditioners next door make a racket, so instead of sitting at your shady patio table, you might want to go back into our nature preserve and sit at the table there. It's very private, and filled with birds and squirrels and other woodland creatures. Smokers please take all tobacco products outside, even vapes.
