I stayed at Melissa's sweet cabin while visiting my daughter at St Lawrence Univ for the weekend. Our check in was easy, the place was lovely, private and clean. The cabin is right on the river and over coffee the next morning sitting on the dock I saw huge fish (trout? salmon? I have no idea), an adorable mink playing in the water and a bald eagle overhead. The night before we layed in the anti-gravity chairs which are perfect for stargazing. Over all, I would highly recommend this sweet little cabin,

Thank you so much for choosing to stay Down by the River! I'm so happy you enjoyed the beauty & serenity of the area. While our meeting was brief, it was a pleasure hosting you and you're welcome back any time! :) ~Melissa
Non electrified cabin with cook stove, multiple battery powered lamps , a portable potty in back of the cabin with unstable privacy screen and bag shower which one could hang up but which we did not use. No immediate water source so bring 5 gallons of H20, although the hosts may have allowed us to use the hose. ((We did not ask.). bed comfortable. sleeping bags available. Bucolic setting by the river, able to see lots of stars. Fire pit with logs which we enjoyed. You park in the very congenial hosts driveway. They have a wagon on to which to load your gear. They have some equipment rentals and the hostess has a menu for meals if u desire. I will admit I forgot to check about electricity as I have a CPAP machine. So wasn’t the best night for me but otherwise recommend. We met their youngest child who had just finished day 1 of school and he was very handsome, polite and very amenable to talking. The hosts are very accommodating.
She is helpful at the perfect times with loading and unloading and anything you need! It’s a beautiful area near the Ogdensburg bridge! Kayaking was wonderful, accommodations were perfect! Loved this little piece of glamping in the St. Lawerence! Although we were on their property, we felt very remote!

I'm happy to hear you had great time! As you know we're constantly making improvements to the property so I welcome any suggestions that you have that would make this a five-star experience (other than a bathroom & shower, which we hope to have a bathhouse ready for next summer). It was a pleasure meeting you all and hope to see you again sometime! :-) ~Melissa
We are new residents as of 2019 to New York. We've traveled and experienced so much in our lifetimes so far. We love our community, property, and especially the river! I started my Down by the River, LLC in 2020 as a purveyor of unique and catered experiences for our guests. How can we NOT share this beautiful property with others?!
