As stated clearly in the property description for all five of our tipis, “Our sites are authentic Sioux-style, hand-painted canvas tipis.” Our resort offers a traditional camping experience, and we emphasize this throughout our listings and communications. You booked a camping trip for mid-July in Texas, arriving at 3 p.m., which is typically the hottest part of the day. While we do provide air conditioning in our tipis, canvas tents cannot maintain a consistent 65°F in extreme outdoor heat. However, by 6 p.m., the interior temperature had cooled to the setting you selected. This is within the normal performance range given the outdoor conditions. We take issue with the suggestion that we misrepresented the property or failed to provide clear expectations. Our description outlines that this is an “outdoor camping experience”, and we specifically advise guests to prepare accordingly. Our policies also state: “Weather conditions & encounters with wildlife are natural elements beyond the control of The Arrowhead Resort & its staff. We encourage all guests to conduct their own research & prepare accordingly for a camping environment.” “Refunds/credits will not be issued due to the discomforts of weather, wildlife, or other natural conditions.” In addition, your communication with our team included inappropriate language and threats, which we take seriously. We also had to respond to concerns from nearby business owners regarding a declined card, which added to the challenges during your stay. While we understand travel plans can sometimes fall short of expectations, we encourage all guests to research the nature of their accommodations before booking—especially when it comes to outdoor, seasonal experiences like ours. We stand by the accuracy of our listings and the quality of our service, and we appreciate those guests who approach the experience with the appropriate expectations for a rustic, outdoor retreat.

Your reservation was for a camping experience in July in Texas—a time of year that is well known for extreme heat. As is common during these months, many natural bodies of water in the region, including ponds and lakes, can experience algae growth. This is a natural occurrence and unfortunately beyond our control. Regarding your concerns about cleanliness and odors, we conducted a thorough inspection and found no evidence to support these claims. The accommodations were clean, well-maintained, and stocked with fresh linens. Photos have been submitted to VRBO as part of our report. Additionally, no other guests staying during the same period reported similar issues. It appears there may have been a misunderstanding about the nature of our resort. We offer a rustic, outdoor camping experience—something that may not suit everyone’s preferences. It seems that your guests may not have been fully prepared or familiar with this type of stay. While we respect individual preferences, we believe it is unfair to rate our property poorly based on a mismatch in expectations rather than any failure on our part. We also note that you previously stayed with us and expressed a high level of satisfaction. The property and service have not changed since then, leading us to believe that the current dissatisfaction is more a result of personal differences or changed circumstances than the quality of our resort. We are proud of our property, our staff, and the experience we offer, and we strongly reject any misrepresentation of our standards. We are so glad you had a great time and hope to host you again in the future. You booked the Many Moons tipi which has always had a queen bed with a full size futon. Only the Morning Star and Big Lakes tipis have king size beds and are a different price point. Kind regards, The Arrowhead Team
