A little history:
The Allées de Tourny were laid out between 1743 and 1757 by Intendant Tourny, on the route of the ancient Lébade, which had served the Médoc since ancient times.
This axis links the Place de la Comédie, where the Grand Théâtre and the Grand Hôtel are located, to the Place Tourny in the extension of the Rue Fondaudège towards the Médoc. Along with the Cours Georges Clémenceau and the Cours de l'Intendance, it forms one of the boundaries of the Golden Triangle.
65 metres wide and 265 metres long, it is lined on the even-numbered side with buildings with Louis XV facades, which Tourny wanted to be "of a graceful and uniform taste". Most of them were raised after the demolition of the Château Trompette on the site of today's Place des Quinconces, as they no longer interfered with cannon fire. The buildings on the odd side were built in the 19th century. The carrousel is on the square all year round.
