Sunny holiday rental apartment in the heart of Alfama, the oldest most picturesque neighborhoods in the center of Lisbon.

The apartment is on the second floor of an 18th century typical Alfama house with lots of sun in the day and cool for sleeping in the night in summer. Sleeps 3 -4 adults, there is also a baby crib. Newly renovated with old Portuguese style. A small balcony looks out on the tiny streets of this old neighborhood.

(This apartment is in the same house as my other Listing #241764 and can be rented together if you are 2 couples or two families traveling together. They are completely separate, each with same amenities.)

It is only a 5 minutes to walk to the Castelo Sao Jorge and 3 minute walk to the famous Feira da Ladra (flea market), and a 3 minute walk to the River Tejo, with restaurants with seating looking out on the river Tejo. And, you can travel around Lisbon on the delightful, picturesque electric tram # 28 which is a 1 minute walk from the apartment. It is a 5 minute walk to the new Metro Station in Sta. Apolonia Train Station. (Lisbon's main terminal) In the station is a Pingo Doce supermarket open until 10PM, very convenient!

The neighborhood is filled with many authentic Fado houses, cafes and restaurants. Alfama is the oldest part of the city with tiny streets to discover.

The apartment sleeps total 4 people. Has excellent Wi-Fi. It has a separate bedroom with a double bed, ( for 2 people) a sunny living room with a double sofa bed, and dining table. A complete kitchen with coffee makers, gas stove, oven, microwave, fridge, toaster, clothes washing machine, electric kettle. The apt. is equipped with cable TV (English + French, CNN, BBC, Portuguese and other languages and many movie channels), stereo, radio, iPod doc. A full bathroom with shower. Hair dryer.

In winter time the apartments are heated with electric heaters and there are fans for summer cooling. I have a very responsible manager who is there to help if there are any problems or questions.

Sheets towels and cleaning are included in price.

Minimum of 2 nights preferred.

Price includes everything, there are NO EXTRA CHARGES.

Why ellie ali chose São Vicente de Fora

Lisbon is a very charming old world city, not on the regular tourist trail. It has lots of outdoor cafes on every street. The art, music and food of Portugal is found in abundance in Lisbon, the capital. I chose the Alfama neighborhood because of it's ancient feel, tiny streets with very few cars, people who have lived there for many generations keeping their old traditions. You are in the city and at the same time in a tiny village with an atmosphere of another time. I am a painter and find the city beautiful and inspiring.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is a 3 minute walk to the River Tejo, the large river that runs through Lisbon to the Atlantic. It is a short trip to Estoril beaches by public transport. The # 28 Electrico (tram) which is one minute walk from the door, takes you on an enchanting ride through the tiny streets and hills across Lisbon. You don't need a car in Lisbon, public transport and taxis are very abundant and not expensive. Lisbon is a 'secret' city that lives on it's own time. Portuguese people revere their quality of life, which I have found emphasizes eating good fresh food (excellent fish) and drinking the wines of the country, which is another wonderful discovery.

Apartment in Lisbon, Alfama area

I felt at home in this apartment. It had everything I needed and most important fresh air and sun light. I enjoyed the Alfama---a labyrinth of ancient cobblestone streets, alleys, paths, lots of little restaurants with very modest prices. The little restaurant a few doors up, no.18 I think, has delicious curry, kebabs, somosas, etc. The neighborhood is unpretentious, socially mixed, the people accessible. Ellie the owner is very helpful.

Alfama Charm

This was my second stay at one of two of Ellie's apartments. I have now stayed in both of the units she owns in the same building. I was there for three weeks last month and found the unit on the second floor to be perfect. Having lived in Brazil and speaking Portuguese made the trip very special for me. Ellie was very helpful and I do not hesitate in any regard to give her and her spaces five stars. I send this honestly and I hope you will experience Alfama too. No worries on this rental, straight forward and beautiful.

Apartment in Alfama District

If you want to stay in the Alfama District this apartment is in a great location. However if I had to do it over again, I would stay outside the Lisbon Old Town areas and make day trips in.

Ellie, the owner, is extremely helpful both before and during your stay and works hard to make your experience a good one.The apartment is good for a couple and all the basics are there for you to cook. I cooked 3 of our 4 nights. Definitely go to the other grocery store (about a 4 minute further walk) in Graca instead of the DIA. Graca is just up the street and we ate an incredible meal at a restaurant recommended by Ellie.

My only 2 negative comments are...even after 4 days I still couldn't get the shower to stay warm...it was either hot or cold. Also, and Ellie is not happy with this either, a "club" has opened up right down the street and the apartment windows look directly on this. There are people drinking and socializing from noon to midnight, which put a damper on the ambiance of the place, although I never felt unsafe.

Great location!

My husband, son and I stayed here in August for 5 days and 4 nights. We loved it! The apartment is very cute, very clean and has everything you need. It is right in the heart of the Alfama and is not far from the metro. Ellie, the owner, is very accommodating. We would definitely stay here again when we come back.

Cozy Apartment in Historical Old City

I thoroughly enjoyed by first visit to Lisbon. The cozy apartment in the historic Alfama section was perfect to obtain a real feel for the city, its history and its people. Only a 15 minute walk to the subway. Easy walk to catch the the street cars for scenic ride to the other areas. The rooms were adequate size and clean, but don't expect the Ritz. The building is old, but that is part of its charm.

Charming Lisbon apartment

My husband and I spent a week in Lisbon last spring (2014) and were very pleased with this charming apartment in the Alfama distrust. It is located within walking distance to the train station and convenient to many bus stops that can take you to the various districts of Lisbon.

The one bedroom apartment is clean, spacious and bright. It I nicely decorated by the owner who is an artist. The manager was very helpful in advising us on local restaurants and Lisbon sites. We enjoyed our stay in Lisbon and would definitely stay in this apartment again.
