About the property

Garden Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Located on Embankment Gardens across the street from the Thames River in the heart of Old Chelsea our London pied-a-terre is a perfect destination for lovers of all the wonderful things that London has to offer. Embankment Gardens is like a small jewel tucked between the grounds of the Royal Chelsea Hospital Garden and London’s legendary Physic Gardens. Less than a five minute walk away, the world famous Chelsea Flower Show is held each May. Across the river is Battersea Park with its array of seasonal gardens, some of the best running paths in London and home of many seasonal art fairs.

We challenge Art Lovers to visit all the nearby museums and galleries along the King’s Road including the Saatchi Gallery at the fashionable Duke of York’s outdoor mall where many of London’s finest antique fairs are held on an annual basis. Sloane Square, with its shops, bars and restaurants is an easy 10 minute walk. Stroll along the Thames to the Tate Britain and then take their ferry service across the Thames to the Tate Modern. Pimlico, where treasures from around the world can be found, is a favorite haunt of interior designers and antique lovers is on your doorstep.

Foodies will need to book well in advance at London's only Michelin three star restaurant, Gordon Ramsey on Royal Hospital Road, less than a five minute walk. Or perhaps London's finest Indian cuisine at The Painted Heron intrigues you. We love The Cheyne Walk Brasserie with its upstairs comfy lounge and delicious array of Provencal treats. Local pubs are on every corner and London's most traditional food shop, Partridge's, is ten minutes away. Perfect for a take away meal to enjoy in the privacy of our secret walled garden.

Our London flat is an art filled haven with one bedroom, a full bathroom and guest loo and a combination living room/dining room overlooking a private walled garden. Enjoy coffee in the morning or an early evening drink in the total privacy of this bit of paradise. The newly installed, fully equipped, Poggenpohl kitchen is ready for your stay at home meals which can be enjoyed either outside or inside.

We provide you with our London Tip Sheet, Personal Restaurant Favorites, Insider Details, a host of London Guide Books along with all the general knowledge you’ll need. We hope you’ll love our flat as much as we do. Enjoy London like a Londoner in Old Chelsea.

About Robin Arkus

We are world travelers with homes in a number of places. London, considered to be the center of the world for finance, the arts, theatre and international cuisine, is one of our favorite cities. We visit whenever we can and are happy to share our pied a terre when we are not there.

Robin Arkus purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Robin Arkus chose London

We love London! Our children live in London! Our grandchildren live in London! Now we can entertain them in our secret garden tucked behind the Royal Chelsea Hospital Grounds, home of the world renown Chelsea Flower Show. Seasonal events attract an international array of visitors. Royal Ascot, Wimbledon, the flower show, antique fairs, museums and opera all all within an easy distance.

What makes this apartment unique

Our secret garden is perhaps one of the quietest locations one can find in the heart of bustling London. Nestled between the Royal Hospital Gardens and the River Thames, no noise at all, other than birdsong, interrupts one's thoughts. We find it a great spot to refresh ourselves between shopping, gallerying and socializing in the world's greatest city.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just a quick note to tell you how much my husband and I enjoyed staying at your lovely apartment in Chelsea this past May. It was certainly everything we had hoped for and more. I also wanted to mention how helpful your tip sheets were. We took advantage of several of your suggestions and found the Airport Executive Cars and the Addison Lee Mini-cabs excellent. To have someone waiting from Airport Executive Cars waiting for us when we got off the plane from the U.S., ready to swoop us up with no further effort on our part was HEAVEN after a long night on the plane. I always wondered who those people were who had someone waiting for them with a name placard. My husband thought the Addison Lee driver who took us to King's Cross when we departed for Scotland was a bit "eager" in his driving technique but I found it rather thrilling myself!! :o) We had a lovely time and couldn't have been more pleased with our stay.

Thank you for your assistance in making our stay in London another memorable one,

Beautiful, comfy, and interesting decor

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented this flat for our honeymoon. Not only is the location great (close to a tube station, and in a really nice neighborhood), but the flat itself is comfortable and quiet, just off the river. Plenty of light floods into the dining area during the day, and everything we needed was in the kitchen, utilities-wise. The art throughout the flat is weird, but in a fun way. Bed mattress was a touch on the firm side, but we're admittedly spoiled by ours at home. The owners give a lot of information on where to get groceries, supplies, and the like, as well as their local favorite restaurants (we tried the Painted Heron, delicious if a bit mild, Indian food). They're also very responsive to any questions that might pop up. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a non-hotel option to stay while exploring London.

The perfect London experience

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Robin and Peter's flat last August and enjoyed it immensely. It is the perfect size for one or two people and has all the amenities one could want. The location was beautiful and I Ioved walking through the grounds of the Royal Chelsea Hospital on my way home from the tube. The flat is conveniently located for food shopping at Marks & Spencer or Waitrose and there is a convenience store a block away for last-minute needs. Robin and Peter were very responsive and all arrangements were completed very quickly and smoothly. I am looking forward to staying there again soon.

What a fabulous London experience

  • 5 of 5

A brief note to say that our week in the flat was absolutely wonderful. Great fun pretending to be wealthy enough to be a Chelsea local ! Our morning runs were through Battersea Park; caught the ferry to the Tate Modern after a brief walk up the Embankment; dinner at the two star 'Medlar' in Kings Road, ( better food than Gordon's ! ). Walked the 10 miniutes everyday to Sloane Square station, even in the snow; oogled all the fancy cars parked around the streets; drank at The Prince Albert across the bridge a couple of nights; bought wine and nibbles from Partridges as if we'd done it all lives. As pretty seasoned travellers we loved everything about the flat, the location and the assistance we got from Robin and Peter. We'll be back and we're telling ALL our friends!

We spent 8 wonderful nights In this amazing flat. It was quiet, well located to public transportation and grocery without being too close. Well decorated, extremely quiet. Loved the Thames and eating each night in the walled garden. We would highly recommend it and would stay again. If you want to feel like you really live in London and are not a tourist, this is the place to be! Thanks for the memories.

Beautiful flat in great neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for 5 nights while we got to explore London. What a beautiful flat! The high windows overlooking the lovely patio brought in lots of light. The kitchen (although we did have to get the manuals out) was efficient and stocked with some staples. The furnishings are lovely and comfortable. The Surprise Pub, which Robin and Peter recommend, is a must! We went 3 times and it's a short 5-7 minute walk. Would love to stay here again!

Very charming home

  • 5 of 5

My 9 year old daughter and I very much enjoyed our stay. This did not feel like a rental property, it really was like being in someone's home (so much so that we were constantly worried about finding a coaster so that we would not put a coffee cup in direct contact with the wood finish on several lovely pieces of furniture.

The only negative is that the location is the tiniest bit "off the beaten track" - it's a 10 minute walk to the nearest bus, 15 minutes to Sloane Square, and flagging a cab on the Embankment is pretty well impossible (you have to walk 5 minutes up to Royal Hospital Road) ... but these are minor details, in the bigger picture. Which is that this is one of the nicest rental apartments I have ever seen.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words. We love our London home and are happy to share it when we are not there. Regarding your difficulties with transport there is a bus stop on the Embankment less than 5 minutes from our front door. It is at the back gate to the Royal Chelsea Hospital. The 360 Bus goes to Sloane Square and beyond. It's convenient when one wants to take the tube and doesn't feel like walking. Of course, if you enter the grounds of the Royal Hospital at the back gate it is a lovely walk through the gardens on the way to Sloane Square. Don't miss the little museum and gift shop along the way. It is also our closest post office, too.
