Let me first state that we only open weekend availability a few days before the upcoming weekend but if you know someone staying in our Scenic Lodge (VRBO property ID 3544946) for the weekend you want to book then we can open it up sooner. Benezette is the ”Elk Capital of Pennsylvania” and is located in the heart of the state’s wild elk herd, now numbering nearly 1,400 majestic animals. The best spot to start an elk viewing adventure is at the Elk Country Visitor Center on Winslow Hill (which is across the road from our property). The Mt. Zion Historical Park near Benezette is a beautiful and quiet place with an honor walkway and Civil War, Veterans, and Boy Scout memorials. The nearby Quehanna Wild Area features a spectacular White Birch grove in the Marion Brooks Natural Area. Most folks come here to just view the elk.
There are a few actual “viewing areas” where you can get out of your vehicle and view the elk and other wildlife within 3 miles of our property and all accessible by any licensed and insured motorized vehicle. There are many ATV, UTV, motorcycle, horseback, and hiking trails in the area. Many people bring their state road legal motorcycles and travel for miles just to enjoy the beautiful scenery around the area.
There are wineries and gift shops within a couple of miles. Fishing and hunting is great too. Many folks enjoy the local creek for swimming and it even has a rope swing. Bring kayaks and tubes for the local creek if you want.
Our camp lot sits on 2 acres of land across the road from Elk Visitor’s Center in Benezette PA. This is the heart of elk country. We often have elk and many other kinds of wildlife roaming through our property and even bedding down. Winslow Hill Rd is well known for being the best road to travel to see elk and our property borders this road. You can access this township road from our property by any licensed and insured motorized vehicle such as an ATV, side-by-side UTV, motorcycle, etc. Our camp site can accommodate any size camper/RV made. We have 50 amp electric service, sewer (portable holding tank/tote needed to dump onsite; more than welcome to use ours), and water (filtered and water softened). There is a campfire ring, park-style charcoal grill, picnic table, garbage can, outdoor activity shed, and Wi-Fi on-site. There are plenty of trails and even township roads where you can ride your off road vehicles. There are a lot of hiking trails and even horseback riding trails. Horses and animals are allowed but any hoofed animal would have to remain trailered when not riding. Bring your bicycles because there is a lot of room for riding that is not on the main road. Please note that there is one other camper and one tiny home/cabin on this 2 acres of land.
If you love the outdoors then this is where you will want to be. Some of the biggest elk in the country come through our property. Cell service works with most carriers, but you can turn on WiFi calling on your phone if need be. Deer, elk, turkey, squirrels, rabbits, birds, and other animals are spotted on the property daily (don’t worry we have never seen a snake).
