MAY WE GO A WANDERING THE REST OF OUR LIVES......
The Owner purchased this house in 2002
Truly a home away from home. The floorplan is great for friends or family gathering.
We were two families of total 7 people staying in this house right by the town and river Sierpe that takes you via boat both to the Mangrove and out to the Ocean and Corcovado National Park. For us it was perfect to be close to town and supermarkets and then do day Tours' from here. We could sit by the dock and read a book or watch boats pass by. Very calm, friendly and safe town. Sonia, was the excellent host for us bringing tourguides to the house, showing us around town, handing Numbers and information to us that we asked for. So convienient!
As others here and in travel guides have indicated, Sierpe is a quiet town at the edge of a patchwork of palm plantations: the jumping off point for river tours, fishing and junkets to Drake’s Bay. Based largely on the comments from fellow reviewers, we had the pleasure of booking 2 weeks through our hosts, Morton and Mary Ann.
The house lies several hundred metres from the Sierpe town square, a market and not far from a small row of hotels, tour operator offices and family-style restaurants serving typical tico fare. Morton undertook major renovations a number of years ago and keeps it in good shape. The floor plan is open with ample kitchen, dining, living room, and office that are all contiguous. It easily accommodated 5 of us with a nice balance of social space and room for privacy.
Morton has also installed air conditioning. This was definitely a luxury and welcome respite from the heat and humidity. We had fine weather and spent most of our time lounging, reading and hanging out on the covered patio: retreating into the cool of the house after dark when the mosquitos came out. The patio overlooks the Sierpe river is a great place to watch birds, iguanas and other wildlife including crocodiles drifting in the current downstream.
Morton is a terrific and gracious host. He arrived right after New Year’s, staying in his other house across town (2 minutes away) and would pop round for a beer and a chat or to see if we needed anything. Sonya, a neighbour who helps out with the house, is also a delight. She stopped by from time to time to check in and surprised us by sharing some of her homemade desserts. Sonya’s son runs river cruises and fishing trips and we enjoyed an evening wildlife outing on the water with him.
In all, Sierpe may not have much going on compared to the hustle and bustle and party scene in Jaco. However, staying at Morton’s house was the perfect choice for us: a spacious house, a warm and congenial community, and laid back. There were plenty of opportunities to traipse about the area, head up the coast or out to Corcovado, Drake’s Bay, the mangrove swamps along the river, or to chill out on the patio and do nothing at all.
Just what we were looking for!
My wife and I enjoyed 10 magnificent days of peace, adventure, and excitement in this beautiful and well-appointed home on the estuary just a short kayak paddle to the Sierpe River. Rayna acted as our own private Concierge while in Sierpe. Anything we needed or wanted to do, she always took care of all of the details and found us the best prices. She could single handed make Sierpe a destination retreat for anyone! The elevated dock side patio offered us incredible views of countless numbers of unique species of passing and resting birds! Among those we saw were Scarlet Macaws, Scrub Euphoria’s, Common Potoo, Cherrie's Tanager, Blue-Gray Tanager, Green Heron's, Purple Gallinule, Amazon Kingfisher, Great Egret, a multitude of hummingbirds, to name a few. We counted close to 70 species of birds during our stay. We went on mangrove tours, fishing excursions, sightseeing trips to the mouth of the Sierpe River where it meets the Pacific, night hikes, self-guided kayak tours. The home was a very short walk to restaurants s in town along with some markets for supplies. We lacked for nothing. We drove to Sierpe from San Jose. We actually could have done quite nicely without one. Would consider flying to Palmar Norte and taking a taxi to Sierpe next time we visit!
Just returned from Sierpe and had this house for 11 days. Lots of room, 3 bathrooms, tile floors, and the important A/C. Wonderful views of the tributary of the Sierpe River with covered areas at rivers edge. Sierpe is a very sleepy town with good places to eat typical Costa Rica cuisine. We were given the name from the home owner of a local travel agent Rayna Levin at muchacostarica dot com who helped set up other trips. Rayna set us up with the guide Kelly Dweller at kellydweller at gmail dot com Kelly is a great bilingual guide from San Francisco who is an offical resident of Costa Rica. Kelly and Rayna know everyone in the area and can take care of all your travel and guide needs. Each went way beyond to provide us with unique experiences at very reasonable prices. Check out the local Soda(restaurant) two blocks from the Las Vegas Restaurant across the street from the soccer field. Two gentlemen make great meals in the ultra clean place. Also Sonja at the grocery store was very helpful and made us many great goodies.
We stayed at this property in July, and had a wonderful, peaceful, friendly experience, both at the property and also in the sleepy little town of Sierpe. The locals were all so warm and friendly, and the homeowner was wonderful about seeing to it that we had everything we needed for this home away from home.
We sat on the lanai every morning and watched birds, huge iguanas, cute monkeys and a friendly neighborhood dog chasing and playing with crabs, as a lone crocodile swam lazily by our dock. In the evenings we saw macaw and monkeys.
The home itself was very comfortable and although we didnt think we would really need it, the air conditioner was a wonderful thing after all!
Thank you, Morton, for everything. We will definitely be back! Pura Vida! :)

This house was perfect for our group of 7. We stayed for 6 nights and loved the town of Sierpe, the boat trips we took straight from our dock and all of the relaxing days and nights spent at this beautiful home. This house is spacious with a great covered patio and large dock. The town of Sierpe is friendly and cute and just a 2 minute walk. Sierpe has several grocery stores, restaurants, a park, a pharmacy, a butcher shop and a DVD rental store. We were grateful to have the help of the concierge (Rayna) to get oriented and to arrange our exclusive trips to pick us up right from our dock and be on our schedule. We chose the Osa Peninsula to see the more natural side of Costa Rica and we were not disappointed. Amazing fish, birds, mammals and reptiles were seen from our dock as well as the trips to Corcovado, Cano Island and Santuario Silvestre de Osa.
