An amazing experience!

  • 4 of 5

Overall, this was a wonderful, unforgettable trip! The house is beautiful and well-maintained, but could use a little upkeep (some holes in the screens to let bigs in :)). Carlos is so nice, and was there if we needed anything. If you have never heard a Howler Monkey, beware! They sound terrifying at 5 am :). You get used to it though, and it is part of the authentic Costa Rica experience (plus it got us up to watch the sunrise everyday). The highlight of our stay, besides the beauty of Costa Rica and the people, was definitely the chef, Pablo. His dishes were amazing! He is a respectable and talented young man. Fresh juices, fresh fish, guacamole, and his pizza was to die for! We had a vegetarian with us, and he made sure to tailor the dishes to her needs. Keep in mind you will need to go shopping and provide the food you discuss with Pablo. We weren't aware of this, and assumed we would be provided a bill for the food at the end of the trip, so there was a little confusion, but we ended up having a great time shopping at the local grocery store. You must try the ice cream! There is so much to do in the area. One week was not long enough! I would suggest the Chocolate Tour, hike to King Louie waterfall (however it drys up in mid-February), and the tree climb for sure! We rented a car and were so happy we did. We explored different beaches, restaurants and had a blast on our own schedule. The roads are full of potholes, so a 4- wheel drive car is definitely recommended (and full coverage insurance, just in case). You can get by without knowing Spanish, but I would highly recommend touching up on basics. Pablo did not speak English, but we were able to communicate with him with our Spanish. We enjoyed the resident dog, Gaia. He was so sweet! My only complaint was that the property manager (not Carlos) was hard to communicate with. There was a language barrier, which was frustrating at first, but we were able to get through itamd still enjoyed ourselves. Thank you Franck for opening your home up to us. Pura Vida!

We cann't say enough about this stunning house. The kindness of the people who worked there, how wonderful the food by chef Luis , the extra care of all, and of course the great care of Pascal to help with all communication , to plan outings for all our guest. We are already talking of our next trip back. And let's face it monkeys, birds of all kinds, and of course frogs, surrounded by breathtaking flowers, ya can not beat it!

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Atrevida in July of 2017. It's a serene, relaxing setting near the village of Puerto Jimenez. The property is relatively new with open air common area. We spent a lot of time just hanging out downstairs, watching the nature. If you want to see monkeys, scarlet macaws, iguanas and such- no need to leave the porch. Trip to the beach takes about 60 seconds through the secluded walkway. Most days we did not see a single person on our beach. If you want less waves, a 10 minute walk in the direction of the village and the sea turns calm. Rooms were clean, comfortable with window screens. It felt very nice to go to sleep with the sounds of rain forest. We highly recommend hiring their chef, Luis. For 40$ a day he prepares three delicious meals with wholesome local food. The keeper, Carlos, lives nearby and was very responsive to our requests. He even let us borrow his fishing gear!

We recommend renting a car to get around. Toyota car rental in town will deliver the car to you and pick it up at the airstrip at the time of the departure. Very convenient. Mata Palo rainforest trip was awesome. At the end we also did a vigorous hike to the waterfall and swam there. Dolphin and whale watching trip was also good and you can also snorkel and look at the coral reef. Local cafe across the street from the bakery has the best wi-fi.

We do feel property owner should improve wi-fi access. It was so slow that even occasional e-mail check added stress. It's probably not an issue if one wants to be completely "off the grid". We also suggest adding a hammock. Overall it was a great vacation!

Exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough things about Atrevida. From the moment we contacted them to the moment we checked out things were seamless. Very well organized from the owner to the maid. This was our first attempt at using an independent home search. Needless to say we were a little nervous but we will say you don't have to be with this property.

We traveled as a family of 5 and this was the perfect location for us. The property manager Pascal was an incredible help in finding the best places to use for our excursions. We hiked, fished, zip lined and toured the chocolate plantation. These were all recommended by and set up by Pascal and the were perfect. Carlos was a comforting presence around the property but never intrusive. A smile and a "PURA Vida" was what you got most from Carlos but he was at hand to help you in any way. He also built an awesome fire on beach one night for us to enjoy. Luis the cook was out of this world. He cooked our meals and everyone at every bite every night. That says something when you have 3 teenagers to feed. I wanted to have a do nothing vacation and I handed him the money to shop for the groceries for us. At the end of the trip he handed me back the receipts and the change from his shopping. This absolutely won me over and of course earned him an even bigger tip. Lol.

On to the house, one word... PERFECT. The mix of jungle and private beach made this the best vacation my family has had. The wildlife around was so close all the time. We even bought bananas to feed the monkeys, one took it right out of my sons hand. The house was very clean thanks to a wonderful maid that we didn't get to know very well because we didn't see her much. That's a good thing. She was never a bother. She came in got her job done and was out of the way. Very appreciative of this privacy they seemed they made every attempt to give us. We are already looking at dates to go back again very soon.

Oh a couple bits piece of advice... bug spray lots of it. Eat your dinners by candlelight to cut down on the pesty bugs. Remember it's the jungle and the house is openaired so you will have bugs. Just use limited lighting at night and spray, which you can pick up a natural kind in the airport in Puerto Jimenez, and you should be fine. It's beautiful, comfortable and inviting as the pictures show. All I can say now... GO AND EXPECT TO BE AMAZED.

Don't miss this GEM

I do not have enough time to say how truly wonderful this place was. We were there with our 3 teenage children and couldn't have asked for this experience to be better. The home is beautiful, comfortable and clean. Pascal was a wonderful host to our stay in Osa. He helped line up our excursion and all were very well planned. Carlos was on sight to help with anything and everything. Very kind man. Thankful for him. Luis was our chef. He shopped for us and made the most wonderful meals. I gave him money to grocery shop, which he did, at the end of our trip he provided the receipts and the unspent money. This earned him a bigger tip. Lol. If you go to Osa stay here it's the absolute best place I've been to in my journeys throughout the Caribbean. I am planning a later this year return with just my wife and we will try to stay here again. Thanks to all already mentioned for making this one of our best vacations ever.

The house is amazing. We fully enjoyed our stay. It is clean and very well kept.

The house is completely off the grid. Un-Plugged!

There is a Cellular WiFi device onsite but it's connection and speed is very limited.

We quickly realized how attached to our phones we are in our daily lives as we put them away.

The open air living areas are very tranquil. It's wonderful to relax in the living room at night by candlelight and listen to the sounds of nature. There are lights if you prefer.

The sounds of the jungle and the waves of the gulf fill the air both day and night.

The bedrooms are well screened and comfortable. Everything is - as the pictures and descriptions indicate.

The pool is refreshing after a long day on the beach or in the jungle.

This place is totally safe. It is a place to find absolute relaxation.

The bedrooms all have safes and the doors lock with keys. Our experience was that neither were truly necessary.

It is a very short walk to a virtually private stretch of beaches that are amazing.

The staff is all very attentive and caring and never overbearing.

Pascal is a wonderful Manager and Host and is nearby to answer questions. He checks in daily.

He can setup (concierge) any trips you would like to venture on. He will also setup your first meal(s) if you let him know in advance.

The grounds keeper Carlos is a very sweet and hard working man. He cleaned the pool daily of the leaves and seeds from the surrounding plants. Pura Vida Carlos!

Luis was the star of our trip. His cooking is fabulous. He is a truly gifted chef.

He is a patient, kind and caring soul that truly adapts to his guests.

He will cook up whatever you purchase to make and pleasantly surprise you with sides that you would not have thought to ask for.

Our Spanish was limited but we all managed to communicate. Only a couple of minor misunderstandings.

We had never had the in-house chef experience - Luis made it wonderful! His wife cleans the house daily and is also very sweet.

Casa Atrevida is wonderful!
