Oceanfront: Step to the Beach from Your Porch!

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,500 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8: 2 queen beds, 1 king plus kid futons)

This home is one of only two in existence along the entire coastline that is both oceanfront and bordering Asilomar State Park in the back. It is a true 'Beach House' where you can actually experience whale watching from the living room couch!

The home is simple, sturdy and comfortable. Downstairs features an open floor plan with large living room, dining room and kitchen all flowing from one to the other. There are large picture windows along the front with wide open views to the beach. The living room features a large wood burning fireplace, comfy couch and easy chairs, a game table, satellite TV, Stereo, etc. Kitchen is well- appointed with lots of cookware and appliances. Dishes are done 'old school' as there is no dishwasher. But since the kitchen sink faces the ocean, the task of washing dishes is fairly painless!

Upstairs there are three comfortable bedrooms, all with huge windows, comfy beds and flat screen satellite TV's. There is also an upper deck overlooking the dunes and the beach.

Outside you will find a firepit in the sand, perfect for bonfires...or just have a seat on one of the benches and gaze at the stars. The night sky is incredible as there is little ambient light!

The famous recreation trail that stretches from Pebble Beach to Santa Cruz is just across the street. You can walk to Spanish Bay Resort (maybe a mile) for world class dining, or wander along the trails of the Asilomar State Park.

If you are a beach/ocean lover, this is your spot. One thing's for sure: spend your vacation here and you will come to know why we love our Beach House so much!

About Vilia Kakis Gilles

'When our parents bought this oceanfront corner lot 60+ years ago, they couldn't have imagined the amount of joy this property would bring to our family. When we were kids, we delighted in exploring the state park in our back yard, sliding down the sand dunes and watching the herds of deer graze around the house. We spent hours at the beach, collecting shells, playing on the rocks and coming home soaking wet with our pails full of treasures. Our friends and cousins delighted in joining us as they took turns visiting all summer long to stay and play at the Beach House.

The house is simple; built originally as a summer beach house by our lovely parents, Greek immigrants, who absolutely had to be near the seashore. It is strong and cozy and was originally filled with as many beds as possible, as my parents, with their amazing Greek hospitality, never said 'no' to any of the legions of visitors who always wanted to come and stay. Many dignitaries and celebrities have stayed there over the years, Having traded in their luxury hotel suites for a home with no dishwasher, they delighted in sitting at my mother's table for a home cooked meal while watching the whales go by and sleeping like logs to the sound of the waves crashing.

After the last full time family member moved out, we decided to open up the opportunity of a vacation rental to others besides family members and friends through VRBO. While the house is probably not the fanciest available for rent, it is comfy and inviting. It is only one of two houses existing as oceanfront with the Asilomar State Park in the back yard. The views are immense and endless from every room. Don't forget to take a moment to sit outside at night. The waves are illuminated by the moon and the stars in the sky are so abundantly visible. We hope you will have a great time and come to love this spot as we all do!'

Why Vilia Kakis Gilles chose Pacific Grove

This is an opportunity to stay in a true "beach house" with an aura of having been enjoyed and loved by generations of guests, which it has. The house is not lavish, but simple, cozy and comfortable. The location and views are unsurpassed.

What makes this house unique

Be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the surf; beautiful night sky star gazing from the front porch; step on to the walking trail across the street for a breathtaking beach walk any time; explore the sand dunes of Asilomar State Park from our backyard!

Fabulous Views!

The owner of this property is extremely responsive and helpful. Would absolutely rent from her again. The property is exactly as pictured in the photos 3 bdrm and 3 bath. The bedrooms are quite spacious. The ocean is literally steps away - only across the street. We watched the swells for hours. The neighbors homes don't sit right on top of each other, so you feel like you have plenty of room. Thank you!

Excellent stay. the absolute de-stress experience.

  • 5 of 5

we stayed at the house with another 5 friends. It is a very comfortable and really "warm" place to stay. we felt like home in every corner of the house.

the property is in a very quiet place. The view is astonishing. we loved the nature around us.

What is also important is that it is located very close to any type of amentities we looked. apart from the great beach walks, just right in front of our feet, we found coffee shops and restaurnats just 5-10mins drive away from the property.

Towels and sheet were clean and the house was in very good condition.

we will visit again for sure.

Delightful Place!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just returned from a 4-night stay in this lovely beach house. This was our first stay at this property and we look forward to returning again and again. The ocean vistas are incredible from the entire downstairs and from two of the three upstairs bedrooms (although from the third, just step out on the deck). This is an older property, but the entire dwelling oozes charm from a bygone, relaxed era. The lovely eclectic decor had us both remarking how we felt like we were reliving some of our fondest childhood memories at grandma's house (although neither of our grandmothers lived on this spectacular stretch of ocean nor among some of of the world's greatest golf courses. We had one self-caused mishap (locked ourselves out) and the owner responded promptly and helpfully. It is hard to imagine a nicer stay in Monterey.

Wonderful Pacific Grove Beach House

  • 5 of 5

Spent a wonderful couple of days in this house over the 2014 holidays. You absolutely cannot miss with this clean and cozy home that has crazy, spectacular ocean views. We were literally seconds from the ocean, beach and sand dunes. Deer were there to greet us in the morning as we drank our coffee out front. A simple walk across the street and there are some of the best trails and beaches on the Monterey Peninsula-really a stone's throw away. And the house is close to any of the populated areas you might want to visit- Carmel, Pebble Beach, Monterey. We went in to downtown Monterey one afternoon and to Carmel another. And always so nice to come back to this welcoming and relaxing place after a busy few hours sightseeing. The beds were super comfy, plenty of extra blankets and comforters for snuggling up with a book or watching a movie. Lots of towels for the bathrooms and a fully stocked kitchen in terms of dinnerware and cookware, etc. Fireplace and lots of wood available. I highly recommend this 'beach house'. The owners are great people and very helpful if you have any questions, needs or desires during your stay. I'm already planning my next trip to this sweet refuge!!

An unforgettable experience

  • 5 of 5

I have had the pleasure of spending ample time at this beach house over the years and, as expected, this last summer did not disappoint! The house was extremely clean, tidy and accommodating. Plenty of firewood was provided and the caretaker was quick to respond to any inquires.

A few fond memories include:

- Waking up to the faint sounds of the ocean tides. Brewing morning coffee in the cute little kitchen and enjoying our cups in the crisp ocean air on the front porch. A confluence of the sunrise colors, the sounds of marine life and early morning dog walkers made for an idyllic morning scene.

- Jogging along the waterfront with my lady for a couple of miles to Lover's Point. Jogging another mile along the water front to explore Cannery Row and the Aquarium. Those sharing the trails and roads all seemed to be in high spirits. Smiles aplenty.

- Throwing on some music with open windows, lighting up the grill with some locally caught fish and local veggies. Oh and of course the obligatory roasting of marshmallows on the front fire pit!

The Monterey Peninsula is beautiful and exciting in its own right but after each days excursions, we were dog tired and I was equally excited to return to the little beach house! Nothing beats curling up to a movie and popcorn on the couch. To add to the ambiance, on cloudless nights, the moonlight is clearly visible from the living room and it glistens fiercely off of the waves. Hotel rooms? No thanks. Hope to be back for our next vacation down there!

This home is one of only two that are both ocean front and border the Asilomar State Park. There are many things to do while visiting the Monterey Peninsula, but the best part of this house is that it is also enjoyable just to sit on property and enjoy the view, which often includes whale watching, boat watching and star gazing! The beach in front of the house has been the subject of California artists for generations. It is a nice little bay that is somewhat protected from big waves and so a great beach for kids to explore the tide pools.

It's easy to walk to the world-class amenities of the Inn at Spanich Bay, Pebble Beach, where you will find world class dining, bars and, of course, golf.

There is a walking trail along the beach in both directions...a fund activity is to bicycle from the house along the beach to Lovers Point, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row and the wharf.
