House, 2 King Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4-6, (or 4bd/2bath whole-house option)
2 bdrms/1 bath upper floor is the default rental quote, max occupancy = 4, up to 5 perhaps 6 if including kids.
Our 'AdamsView' house is located inside Hood River town close to Jackson Park, the Swim/Tennis Center, and grocery store. Our place is licensed by Hood River - license #390.
From the living room, master bedroom and balcony there is a 140 degree view of the other side of the Gorge, with a full view of glacier-capped Mt. Adams, plus a rare garage for storing your outdoor gear... you get views, quiet, parking and storage that you just don’t get at most other 2 bdrm places in town. Lots of people choose our place for their 2nd stay after being annoyed by the I-84 freeway and train noise endemic to downtown rentals. Our place 4 minutes from downtown is MUCH quieter.
While you’re sipping your morning coffee on the balcony, you can also see the river in front of the Event-Site to check out wind and wave conditions before you go sailing or kite-boarding.
The default rental price is for the 1,350 sq. ft 2-bdrm, upper floor of our daylight-ranch home, so its affordable for 1 or 2 couples or a family. The house is sited on the edge of a small bluff so the neighboring houses and trees are below your view sight lines which also provides nice privacy. (The stairway between levels is secured by a dead-bolted solid-core door with a heavy, 6" thick acoustic-insulated panel fastened over it.)
Just a 4 minute walk is the large aquatic center pools, tennis courts, softball field, soccer field, and Jackson Park’s amphitheater with free summer weekend concerts and movies. The only grocery store closest to downtown is a 2-minute drive down the hill. The start of downtown is about a dozen blocks to the east - a pleasant walk or a 4-minute drive or a short bike, to Hood River’s fine pubs, shopping, galleries, fine cuisine, sushi, pizza, ice cream, theaters, wine-tasting, bike shops, wind-sport shops and coffee shops. The house is also close to the Heights neighborhood with more options for restaurants, shops, the other grocery store, and fruit stands. Of course, there are numerous options to enjoy Hood River’s world-famous windsurfing and kite-boarding sites (Event-Site, Hook, The Marina, and (Spit great for kites) are a 6-8 minute drive).
Go west to visit several close-by best-of-the-region wineries, within 8 minutes by bike (Cathedral Ridge (great reds); Marchesi (sumptuous Italian wines); Also a short bike ride to the west is the Post Canyon trails complex (2 mi. to single-track) with some of the best single-track and free-riding trails on the west coast (70+ miles of trails, optional stunts). Closer to Mt. Hood and across the river are many dozens of awesome hiking/waterfall and mt bike trails. A Gorge hiking guide and maps are supplied.
From the entry, the kitchen is immediately to the right, with dining area adjoining. 2010 all stainless steel appliances (convection double-oven, built-in smooth-top 4-burner cooktop, built-in microwave, new tile counter, black-granite sink, large bottom-freezer refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, coffee-maker. Lots of counter space. Stocked with basic condiments/spices, pots & pans, dishes, glasses, etc. From the dining table, there is even a partial view of the steep, rugged north face of Mt. Hood, (which completes the fairly rare “Hood River 2-mountain view”).
Further past the entry, to your right is the large gorge-facing living room with a comfortable, large, sectional sofa - a panoramic view of the Gorge and Mt. Adams. A sliding glass door opens onto the 32 x 8 ft. cedar balcony with a solid railing for privacy and safety. The balcony has a dining table for 6, plus comfy lounge chairs/ottomans, and a Weber gas grill BBQ. The large north-facing balcony has welcome shade on hot summer days and is sheltered from much of the world-renowned Gorge summer winds.
From the entry, turn left to the bathroom with double-sinks and large shower. Also to the left of the entry is the master bedroom (12 x 16 ft) which has the same special view of the gorge/Mt. Adams… what an inspiring sight to wake up to! The second bedroom is slightly smaller, (without gorge view). Bedrooms have ultra-comfortable foam-mattress/pillow-top King beds with quality linens, a large double-closet, plus a chest of drawers for the master. The optional 3rd bed is a comfortable, premium queen-size AeroBed with built-in pump that inflates in 3 minutes to a 22” height. It’s much more comfortable than most sleeper-sofas.
The 2-car garage has one bay available to you for storing your vehicle and/or drying/storing your outdoor gear, plus your own dedicated clothes washer/dryer. (If you ask for whole-house option, the entire garage is yours.) The trees in the front yard offer some shade for driveway parking. Fits 2 cars in your half of the semi-circle driveway + 1 in garage, plus ample on-street parking. (Or if you opt for the whole-house option, it fits 4 cars in driveway, plus 2 cars in garage.)
The home has a modern, premium, central heating/cooling system with electronic air cleaner. It features a completely separate thermostat and ducting just for your unit (a major sound isolation benefit from separate ducting). Plus electrical and plumbing upgrades.
After a day of outdoor activities, relax, take in the view and barbecue on the balcony or go downtown for an enjoyable evening.
Mt. Hood Meadows, the largest ski resort, is about 40 minutes south. A bit further, the classic Timberline Lodge offers year-round skiing higher up. Family-friendly Cooper Spur ski area is the closest. Trails for hiking, XC skiing or snow-shoeing are within 5-30 minutes drive. There are numerous scenic routes for road biking right from the house. Exciting, Class 3-4-5 white-water rafting services, and kayaking is available on the White Salmon, Klickitat, and Deschutes rivers.
Be aware that many of the other 2-bedroom places for vacation rental in Hood River have no view or narrow/limited views, may have a tiny deck, really annoying I-84/downtown traffic/train noise and limited or no off-street parking, and most have no garage, some have no or limited room-A/C. We get a lot of 2nd time visitors who learned not to rent quite so close to downtown/freeway/train noise.
If interested in the whole-house quote for 4 bdrms/2bath max occupancy eight (8) people, please let us know in your inquiry text.

About Leigh Anderson
We bike, hike snowshoe, ski and backpack and love the outdoors and Gorge/mountain views. He is in high-tech marketing and she is an RN working with moms and babies. Our vacation rental license number issued by the City of Hood River is #390.
Leigh Anderson purchased this House in 2009
Why Leigh Anderson chose Hood River
We went to a friend's wedding in Hood River, decided to look around at houses since we had time before it started. Within seconds of walking out onto the balcony and seeing the 'gorge-ous' panorama in front of us, we knew we had to make an offer. Just 4 days later we finalized the deal.
What makes this House unique
We love the close-by biking, wineries and downtown restaurants, and sipping wine or a cold microbrew while watching the sunset. Alpenglow skies paint bright pink colors on Mt Adams and the high meadows across the river. We often mountain bike to the superb Post Canyon single-track trail system right from the garage.

Nice place, beatuful view
Nice comfortable house, short drive away from everything, wonderful views. Leigh was very helpful with everything we needed.
Beautiful View !
Fabulous view and comfortable house with a plethora of brochures, books , etc about the area and surrounding areas. Great help!!
Great clean space with an amazing view
Detailed check in/out instructions. Easy procedures. Plenty of room for a couple or family.
Nice, with a big caveat
The house was clean and decorated nicely. The owners were easy to work with and contact, and instructions were clear. The beds were comfortable and the amenities were great.
The problem was when you walked into the house, you got a facefull of stale cigarette smell. It is probably (okay, definitely) due to the 70s era green shaggy carpet throughout the house. Some aspects of the house have been updated, but the carpet has not. Maybe because it is still in pretty good condition for how old it has to be. But the house smells like smoke. It was close to a deal breaker for me, and I wish I'd known that in advance, so hence the review. When the owners replace the carpet, they should note that in their house details.
I'm not sure what Marie is talking about. Yes, the carpet in the living room and hallway (only) is out of style and is slated to be replaced - however 4 guests have stayed since - with NO complaints and we don't smell a thing. We have tons of 5 star reviews. In 7 years and 390 guests we have NEVER HAD A SINGLE SMOKE SMELL COMPLAINT. We are lifelong non-smokers and our listing, rental-agreement and emailed instructions BAN smoking and warn of loss of $300 deposit plus an extra cleaning fee. My wife and I HATE smoking odor with a passion and would never tolerate even a whiff. The review is also blatantly false in claiming the green carpet is "throughout" - you can see both hardwood and modern tan carpet in the VRBO photos! This review is NOT TRUE on TWO counts. Read our other reviews!
What we wanted!
Had a great girls adventuring weekend! This place had everything we needed to make our stay great plus lots of windows for sunshine and views. It’s also super close to town, groceries and a launching pad for outdoor activity.
Questions regarding how to start the fire were promptly and effectively answered plus a late check out was accommodated. I’d absolutely recommend this space.
It was quiet and a great view.
We were celebrating my husband's birthday; been wanting to return to Hood River for about 10 years. This looked perfect. It's quiet with a really beautiful view over the Columbia river.
I was, however, disconcerted by the length of instructions... easily three pages. I get that we need to be considerate of neighbors and quiet time... I also understand how to pay it forward... load dishes, strip beds, etc.
I couldn't find any soap for the shower, the shower mat was dirty looking, the heater was loud and didn't quite heat the bedroom, nor were the coffee filters in a logical location. No cable. Dusty.
I still haven't heard about the deposit being refunded...
We did, however, love Hood River as a destination, the food (and beer) and shopping delightful... and my husband had a glorious morning walk in 20 degree weather...
Wow, I"m really surprised at Lyn's comments. Out of 37 guest-submitted reviews we have 32 at 5-Stars and 4 at 4-Stars. The review contains false and misleading info as follows. She also did not contact me during or after her stay so I could address any questions, even though my arrival mail invites guests to look around at arrival time to see if there's anything we can do for them and to txt or call day or night anytime.
## Lyn stated: No cable.
@@ FACT: guest-submitted review on 9/24 states - There is a large flat-screen TV with internet in the living room with Netlix, YouTube as well as a full selection of HD cable channels, with an HD recorder. Yep, it's exactly as that guest said.
## Lyn complained that length of instructions were too long.
@@ Fact: Yes it's about 3 pages, of which the about 1/3 is local tips for best wineries, hikes, fav restaurants & pubs, bike shops and stores. Another guest wrote...loved how there was lots of information about nearby attractions. Another most of a page are Good-Neighbor Guidelines written by the city that I MUST include by city rules.
## She complained of no soap for the shower, and the shower mat.
@@ Fact: there were new 4 body-soaps and 3 new shampoo bottles in the cupboard adjacent to the shower. The shower mat is scrubbed - with bleach! - every time. Another guest review stated - plenty of thick, fluffy towels, soap and toilet paper, the house is very well stocked with all you need, such as [long list of things in kitchen and bath], and - well stocked - appears in so many reviews.
## She said dusty.
@@ Fact: Many guest-submitted reviews are as follows: very clean, clean, the home was clean... a consistent review description. I don't claim perfection, but the place is thoroughly cleaned consistently.
## She complained about lack of refund information. @@ Fact: the 7-day return policy is clearly stated in writing by VRBO, and she explicitly accepted all VRBO terms and conditions including that policy. VRBO automatic 7-day refund system glitched, so I manually triggered the refund, within a few minutes of getting her query.
## She complained that the bathroom heater is slow and noisy.
@@ OK I agree with that one! I'll put a new one in soon.
disc golf (frisbee) course + large skate park + BMX bike jumping track down the hill 2 minutes by car, kite-boarding, birding, mushrooming, geo-caching, soccer field very close. The aquatic center pool which has lapping and children's sections is a very short walk.
