Our 'AdamsView' house is located inside Hood River town close to Jackson Park, the Swim/Tennis Center, and grocery store. Our place is licensed by Hood River - license #390.
From the living room, master bedroom and balcony there is a 140 degree view of the other side of the Gorge, with a full view of glacier-capped Mt. Adams, plus a rare garage for storing your outdoor gear... you get views, quiet, parking and storage that you just don’t get at most other 2 bdrm places in town. Lots of people choose our place for their 2nd stay after being annoyed by the I-84 freeway and train noise endemic to downtown rentals. Our place 4 minutes from downtown is MUCH quieter.
While you’re sipping your morning coffee on the balcony, you can also see the river in front of the Event-Site to check out wind and wave conditions before you go sailing or kite-boarding.
The default rental price is for the 1,350 sq. ft 2-bdrm, upper floor of our daylight-ranch home, so its affordable for 1 or 2 couples or a family. The house is sited on the edge of a small bluff so the neighboring houses and trees are below your view sight lines which also provides nice privacy. (The stairway between levels is secured by a dead-bolted solid-core door with a heavy, 6" thick acoustic-insulated panel fastened over it.)
Just a 4 minute walk is the large aquatic center pools, tennis courts, softball field, soccer field, and Jackson Park’s amphitheater with free summer weekend concerts and movies. The only grocery store closest to downtown is a 2-minute drive down the hill. The start of downtown is about a dozen blocks to the east - a pleasant walk or a 4-minute drive or a short bike, to Hood River’s fine pubs, shopping, galleries, fine cuisine, sushi, pizza, ice cream, theaters, wine-tasting, bike shops, wind-sport shops and coffee shops. The house is also close to the Heights neighborhood with more options for restaurants, shops, the other grocery store, and fruit stands. Of course, there are numerous options to enjoy Hood River’s world-famous windsurfing and kite-boarding sites (Event-Site, Hook, The Marina, and (Spit great for kites) are a 6-8 minute drive).
Go west to visit several close-by best-of-the-region wineries, within 8 minutes by bike (Cathedral Ridge (great reds); Marchesi (sumptuous Italian wines); Also a short bike ride to the west is the Post Canyon trails complex (2 mi. to single-track) with some of the best single-track and free-riding trails on the west coast (70+ miles of trails, optional stunts). Closer to Mt. Hood and across the river are many dozens of awesome hiking/waterfall and mt bike trails. A Gorge hiking guide and maps are supplied.
From the entry, the kitchen is immediately to the right, with dining area adjoining. 2010 all stainless steel appliances (convection double-oven, built-in smooth-top 4-burner cooktop, built-in microwave, new tile counter, black-granite sink, large bottom-freezer refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster, coffee-maker. Lots of counter space. Stocked with basic condiments/spices, pots & pans, dishes, glasses, etc. From the dining table, there is even a partial view of the steep, rugged north face of Mt. Hood, (which completes the fairly rare “Hood River 2-mountain view”).
Further past the entry, to your right is the large gorge-facing living room with a comfortable, large, sectional sofa - a panoramic view of the Gorge and Mt. Adams. A sliding glass door opens onto the 32 x 8 ft. cedar balcony with a solid railing for privacy and safety. The balcony has a dining table for 6, plus comfy lounge chairs/ottomans, and a Weber gas grill BBQ. The large north-facing balcony has welcome shade on hot summer days and is sheltered from much of the world-renowned Gorge summer winds.
From the entry, turn left to the bathroom with double-sinks and large shower. Also to the left of the entry is the master bedroom (12 x 16 ft) which has the same special view of the gorge/Mt. Adams… what an inspiring sight to wake up to! The second bedroom is slightly smaller, (without gorge view). Bedrooms have ultra-comfortable foam-mattress/pillow-top King beds with quality linens, a large double-closet, plus a chest of drawers for the master. The optional 3rd bed is a comfortable, premium queen-size AeroBed with built-in pump that inflates in 3 minutes to a 22” height. It’s much more comfortable than most sleeper-sofas.
The 2-car garage has one bay available to you for storing your vehicle and/or drying/storing your outdoor gear, plus your own dedicated clothes washer/dryer. (If you ask for whole-house option, the entire garage is yours.) The trees in the front yard offer some shade for driveway parking. Fits 2 cars in your half of the semi-circle driveway + 1 in garage, plus ample on-street parking. (Or if you opt for the whole-house option, it fits 4 cars in driveway, plus 2 cars in garage.)
The home has a modern, premium, central heating/cooling system with electronic air cleaner. It features a completely separate thermostat and ducting just for your unit (a major sound isolation benefit from separate ducting). Plus electrical and plumbing upgrades.
After a day of outdoor activities, relax, take in the view and barbecue on the balcony or go downtown for an enjoyable evening.
Mt. Hood Meadows, the largest ski resort, is about 40 minutes south. A bit further, the classic Timberline Lodge offers year-round skiing higher up. Family-friendly Cooper Spur ski area is the closest. Trails for hiking, XC skiing or snow-shoeing are within 5-30 minutes drive. There are numerous scenic routes for road biking right from the house. Exciting, Class 3-4-5 white-water rafting services, and kayaking is available on the White Salmon, Klickitat, and Deschutes rivers.
Be aware that many of the other 2-bedroom places for vacation rental in Hood River have no view or narrow/limited views, may have a tiny deck, really annoying I-84/downtown traffic/train noise and limited or no off-street parking, and most have no garage, some have no or limited room-A/C. We get a lot of 2nd time visitors who learned not to rent quite so close to downtown/freeway/train noise.
