About John Garrett

The Garrett Cabin has been a place of family memories for almost 30 years. Playing games, snuggling up with a good book next to the woodstove, taking long walks in the woods, having deep conversation while sitting on the large rocks above the cabin, sledding down the toboggan run in the winter, watching deer & elk cruise through the property, feeding our friend Francis the Fox ... the list could go on and on - as we know these traditions will...

We share this special place with the trust that everyone who visits will enjoy their stay and create their own memories. Visit often and join our community of fans that understand the rare gem this place truly is.

John Garrett purchased this cabin in 1987

What makes this cabin unique

Awesome

This cabin was so perfect. Beautifully decorated, fun game room for kids, outdoor fire pit, everything was so clean. Couldn't have been any better. The owner was a pleasure to work with as well!!!!! And the surrounding forest made the cabin feel so private.

Peaceful, beautiful vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Had such a wonderful time in this gorgeous cabin. I was looking for a peaceful retreat away from the crowds and I found it here. Loved the fact that I could bring my dog with too, and there is plenty of space between neighbors. The cabin is clean, spacious, and inviting. Location is very close to some of my favorite hikes, including Boulder Lake. Will definitely be coming back here again soon!

Great Value

  • 5 of 5

We rented the cabin for a 2 week stay during the second half of February. While the lack of snow was a disappointment, the cabin was not. It was pretty much just as advertised. Very comfortable, well-equipped, warm, and spacious.

The owners were very considerate and even had a giant cupcake waiting for us upon arrival in honor of our daughter's 12th birthday, which was greatly appreciated!

All-in-all, a very nice place to spend some time with family and friends and certainly a great value.

Perfect winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

We rented the Garrett cabin during the Holiday break for a family reunion. There were 12 of us total, 6 kids and 6 adults, I thought we would be so cramped and that the kids would be bored, but that was not the case! Here is our review based on our experience and the comments of our family that joined us...

Pros: 1. The basement game room is fantastic!

2. The cabin was much bigger than it looked in pictures.

3. The kids could sled right out the front door.

4. Beautiful, secluded location

5. 2 sisters liquor store was awesome! What nice ladies, they have a great establishment, and it's just a short drive from the cabin.

6. Very clean, and "cabin" feeling

7. Kitchen is nicely stocked

8. The owners were very kind, prompt, and easy to work with!

Cons: 1. In the winter you need 4-wheel drive to get up the driveway.

2. Only one shower (upstairs bath) and one bath tub with no shower (downstairs bath), so bathing and showering was a challenge for a lot of people.

3. It took a long time for the cabin to warm up when we first arrived, but once it warmed up it stayed warm.

Perfect place for a cozy hearth-side retreat

  • 5 of 5

We had such a warm, cozy, happy weekend staying at this cabin. Every detail was so thoughtfully prepared: the firebox stacked with wood, the books and DVDs organized and bountiful, and all of the beds and sitting areas extremely comfortable. We had grand plans for hikes and wandering around McCall, but the house was irresistible and we spent pretty much the whole weekend by the fireplace. Thanks for such a relaxing stay!

Tough to deal with...

  • 1 of 5

WARNING... Nice place, but owner was very difficult to work with. 5 weeks after our stay, we still had not received our deposit back. It took an additional week, 2 more emails (no response) and a phone call to finally get a response from owner. We were emailed that we lost our deposit due to damages that I know were not caused by us. No notification regarding these charges and we still (7 weeks later) have not received pictures of the damages. Cabin was OK, but there are many cabins in McCall that are managed by professional and honest individuals. Save the headache and choose a different cabin.
