Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-16)

This is our lake house getaway for our family. There is a panoramic view of beautiful Mayfield Lake. There is a wrap-around deck on the upper level on three sides. We have furnished the 3090 square foot house to accommodate our ever-enlarging family. We have a garage with a 2-bedroom loft apartment next door (see vrbo 307616). Both the house and garage apartment are currently vacation properties. Between the two buildings, there are accommodations for 20+ people.

The house has 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, 6 twin beds and 2 queen-size sleeper sofas. We fit a memory foam pad to the sofa mattresses to make them quite comfortable. The kitchen is set up to allow you to cook your meals or there are several restaurants within short driving distances.

The real opportunity of this location and setup is that this is a great place to stay and relax or be as active as you want to be. Mayfield Lake was formed when a dam was built on the Cowlitz River. Mayfield Lake offers boating, water sports, fishing (8 varieties), hunting, and Ike Kinswa State Park for swimming and other children's activities. The nearest boat launch and lake access is at the Ike Kinswa State Park, which is just a 2-mile drive from the house. A Discover Pass is required for parking at the state park. There is sport fishing on the Cowlitz (salmon and steelhead in season), hiking in the hills and mountains, skiing/boarding at White Pass winters, and sightseeing in the Cascade Range.

A drive to Randle, WA puts you nestled in the middle of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, and Mt. St. Helens. The natural beauty of the area still puts me in awe after years of enjoyment. There are restaurants, horseback riding, and other services in the small towns around the area with the type of folks that are warm and welcoming.

Check-in time is at 4:00 p.m. or later.

Check-out time is 12:00 noon or earlier.

Neighborhood Considerations: Quiet hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. every day of the week. The property is in a quiet neighborhood and that must be maintained during the quiet hours.

If you are looking for a getaway with lots of choices for activities, you have found it!

About The Owner

Lynda and Darrel Libby own two properties side-by-side. We live in Vancouver, WA currently, and spend every other weekend at Mayfield Lake. In 2010 we built the garage/apartment next to the house for our future needs. We rent out the house and apartment when we are not using it.

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Why The Owner chose Washington State

I like to fish, hike, hunt, and enjoy watching the sun rise over the lake and reflect a warm welcome to a new day. This vacation spot is 75 minutes driving time from our home in Vancouver and just under 2 hours from downtown Seattle. We have kids in both locations, so this was hopefully thinking ahead towards visiting the grandkids. It is in a quiet neighborhood set away from cities. There is a small stop on the way called Salkum, which has the basic groceries. Mossyrock is 12 minutes away with a few more shops. Chehalis and Centralia have a good variety of shops and indoor activities.

What makes this house unique

Relaxation for those needing to get away. If you are more active, then the variety of outdoor activities will keep your interest. This VRBO rental is a great way to vacation at a destination location without breaking the bank.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great Property With a View.

  • 4 of 5

My wife and I found this property on VRBO when we were looking for a place our periodic gathering of friends for the Memorial Day Weekend. We reserved it months in advance and were looking forward to a great time with our friends and family. The owners of the property were a little slow in getting back to us, but once we connected they answered all our questions and were very helpful.

When we got to the house, I must say it was better than advertised and I would have given this place a five star rating but for a couple of issues that I will talk about later. But first impressions first. It was quite large, it easily could have fit 15 people or more with no problem. Our group of ten fit right in. The view of Mayfield Lake from the large living room was spectacular. The house itself was immaculate, clean and everything in good repair. There were two gas bbqs and plenty of kitchen implements for our use. And to top it all off, there was a large bowl of plain and peanut M&Ms set out to greet us.

Over the time we were there, we found the beds to comfortable and the grill worked fine. There were plenty of plates and silverware for all of us at our meals. The huge DVD library was a bonus, though we barely found time to take advantage of it. All told it was quite a place.

The only issues we had were: 1) There is nowhere to go for a walk from the house. The roads are narrow and cars are pretty speedy through the area; and 2) During our second night, the septic system stopped working and we ended up having to use the bathrooms in the house next door (owned by the same people). The owners were VERY apologetic and comped us our second night, but it was something of a hassle for all of us. But that could have happened at any time to anyone. All told, it was a great place and we are already thinking about coming back.

Great weekend vacation

  • 5 of 5

We met with 2 families over the weekend at this wonderful house - total 6 adults and 4 children under age 6. Everything was immaculate, and we had plenty of room in this spacious home. Lynda was always very easy to get a hold of and provided a wonderfully stocked kitchen with smores fixings, firewood, bottled water, a spice rack, and pancake/waffle batter. We enjoyed watching movies from their huge DVD collection and playing board games from their vast supply. Couldn't have asked for more!

Beyond Awesome

  • 5 of 5

We held a 10-people weekend retreat at the Mayfield Lake View House. The House had a warm, "homey" atmosphere all around. "Southern Hospitality" is what came to my mind when I interacted with the caretaker of the house. Everything from towels, washing machines to ping pong tables, was provided for us to enjoy! It was a great way for our team to bond over the weekend and I can say that the Lake View House has played a crucial role in it along with the gorgeous view around the area!

A fun girls weekend away

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home for a women's crafting weekend. It was so nice to not have to bring tables and chairs with us. All of the tables and chairs we needed were right there. We were able to fit 9 of us around the dining room table for meals. There is a ton of room in this house. The view is amazing. The house was extremely clean. There were a few dirty cooking pans, but easily washed up.

There were more than enough beds for us. The twin beds are not very comfortable, so we might bring air mattresses to lay on top of them next time. Also, the house can be noisy in the mornings. If that is an issue, just bring ear plugs.

We really enjoyed the convenience of having the coffee maker and the hot pot. We saw how big the crock pot was and will probably use that next time too. The owners stock the kitchen with basics like coffee, tea, pancake mix, and smores fixings. There was even a bowl of m&m's on the counter.

The lighting for doing crafts is quite adequate and all 9 of us were able to spread out. The living room furniture was so easy to slide around to move into the configuration we wanted.

The owners are extremely nice and very helpful. The checkout process was easy. We are already trying to plan when our trip will be next year so that we can hurry up and book again. Thank you Linda & Darrell Libby!
