About Dan Stophel
We are Dan & Bonnie. We have been together since 1988! We met in the Navy and both retired with over 20 years. We came back to the Bristol Area because of family and the weather. Bonnie is from Michigan, which is way too cold in the winter and I am from Bluff City. It is not a bad place to hang your hat.
Dan Stophel purchased this Farmhouse in 1991
Why Dan Stophel chose Sullivan County
This was my Grandparents house were they raised my mother, as well as her sisters and brothers. We bought it from my uncle and rented it out for a while and decided to convert it to a VRBO home. We hope it works out well and we meet some really great people.

Great Fishing Spot
For our long fishing weekend, this house was perfect. It's very close to the South Holston River and to the fly shop. The house was very clean with plenty of space to prepare food and relax after long days on the river.
Simple. Clean. Fully furnished and vintage country living. Perfect for our fishing trip.
Perfect location for fly fishing the Soho River
Minutes to the river and to the fly shop. Very spacious layout. Has everything you need. Very responsive owner.
Fall fishing trip
We enjoyed our stay at Smokey Brook Hollow in Bluff city. It was fairly close to South Holston Lake where we were spending a couple of days fishing. The house was older but true to the pictures on line. It was well equipped with everything we needed. The owners were very prompt in answering our questions on line both before and after the stay. While there, as I walked my dogs up and down the road, we saw horses, cows, even a wild turkey. The area is pretty.
The only complaint I would have is the same as one of the other reviewers in that the neighbors across the street were loud in the evenings. They have a really loud car and left it running across from the rental house for hours until 10:00 at night on Saturday which made me a little uneasy... wasn't sure what they were doing as they weren't in their own driveway but parked in front of the rental house.
Overall, the house was good for our purposes and the owners were very responsive to our questions and the house had everything you would need. I enjoyed the notes on working the tv and dvd players and there were lots of movies to watch!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our house. We try to keep the house clean and well stocked with items we think visitors may need. The area is generally very quiet but like most places neighbors are unpredictable and can be a little noisy at times. If for any reason you do not feel comfortable with what is happening around the area, I would welcome a call letting me know, so the situation can be corrected at that point. I live a short distance from the house and can be there quickly. I will do my best to fix any issue. We hope you will return on your next vacation.
Wonderful home and location!
This private home was most accomidating. It has everything you need - bring food! The beds were so comfortable, the house was clean, the yard was amazing, the neighbors were also great! It was perfect for my whole family and we would stay again. 10/10!
If you're looking for a quiet getaway, this is the place to be.
The house is located at the foot of the Cherokee National Forest, minutes from the South Holston river, lake and dam. Great trout fishing in the river and bass fishing in the lake. Boone and Watuaga lakes are close by also. Hike, mountain bike or nature watch in the Cherokee National Forest. We are located about 5 miles from Thunder Valley Dragstripe and 8 miles from Bristol Motor Speedway. There is a lot to do in the local area with storey telling in Jonesbourgh , Tennessees oldest city. The Creeper Trail is close by where you can ride bicycles from Damascous to Abington Virginia. The Barter Theater in Abington Virginia is about 30 minutes away. The Snake , located on 421 between Bristol and Mountain City, is only 10 minutes away. Come ride your motorcycle across the snake. Golf: There are plenty of places to golf in the area. The best known is the Virginian , Virginia Golf Course, located off Old Jonesbourgh road on Virginia Trail. There is the Bristol Golf and Country Club located off Old Jonesbourgh and King College Road and the Holston Valey Golf Course located off Bristol Caverns Highway.
