About the property

Private Villa, Birders Paradise, on Lake Arenal for boating and wind surfing

Costa Rica Lakeview Villa on Lake Arenal- Private Rainforest Reserve

Costa Rica Lakeview Villa offers a unique setting not found with other rentals in the Lake Arenal area.  Our home is located on a 40 acre private estate with no other homes in view and has direct access to the lakeshore from the property.  The Villa is a 2 level, 2 bedroom, 2 bath home that sleeps up to 7 guests with a unique design as the second story studio apartment has its own private entrance and offers a view of the lake from every room, porch and yard. The property is part of a rainforest preserve that has a spring fed stream, hiking trails and a water cascade running through the gardens. Relax and vacation at our rental home where you can walk to the lake and enjoy sunsets, bird watching, fishing and the sounds of the rain forest.

Additional highlights:

The Costa Rica Lakeview Villa is located in the cool rainforest mountains of Costa Rica on the north end of Lake Arenal as part of a large estate. The Villa is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, where you can replenish your soul or a place you and your family can use as a home base as you explore the northern part of Costa Rica for day trips and excursions to nearby sights and locations.

The Villa is a two story house that sleeps up to 7 guests with a unique design. The downstairs has living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and laundry room with large porch. The upper level has a separate private entrance and offers complete amenities with kitchen and dining area, combined living area, bedroom, bathroom and a veranda. From the veranda upstairs you have a perfect view of the lake, the wind turbines, the numerous birds and at night the lights of Tronadora across the lake. You can certainly leave your heart at our Costarica Lakeside Villa. Here you will enjoy a spectacular setting at this Rainforest retreat with incredible views of Lake Arenal and the surrounding mountains. The house is set in the mountains on the edge of a stream so we get the cool morning and evening breezes as well as the relaxing sounds of the running water.

Once you leave the comfort of the home you will find extensive hiking trails on our own private nature reserve within the rainforest preserve with streams, ponds to swim in and waterfalls to relax by as well as abundant wildlife and flora/fauna. You can follow the stream down to the Arenal lake shore or follow a trail through the property to the edge of the lake to discover the beautiful coves where you can enjoy the lake. This is one of the few rental properties that has direct Lake Arenal access with just a few minutes walk to the lakeshore from the house.

Jungle treks through the rain forest is an eco-adventure of a lifetime with miles of manicured trails available on the estate. The sounds and images of this rainforest preserve are all part of the experience of staying at the Lakeview Villa. Imagine waking up to the sounds of running water from the hillside water features and the stream, the unique howling of the howler monkeys, and dozens of birds making their morning sounds as they explore the trees surrounding the house. Bird watching in this temperate zone climate offers as many as 300 different species of birds in Costa Rica. We have seen keel billed toucans, tanagers, parrots, hummingbirds, red legged honeycreepers, hawks and a virtual potpourri of colorful feathered friends eating at the nearby bird perch. ( See the photos).

On occasion the howler monkey troop will choose the trees or canopy near the house to have breakfast or dinner. There can be up to 20 of various sizes as they circulate through the 40 acre property. We invite you to view some of the great pictures we have taken from the side of the house in addition to the videos on the Google plus site.

Some days it is great just to relax and enjoy morning coffee on the veranda, spend hours in the rainforest following the extensive hiking trails and the flowing stream down to the lake, enjoying the waterfalls and swimming in the natural pools of crystal water. It is like entering another world.

If you choose to leave the property, the town of Nuevo (New) Arenal is only about a 10 minute drive from the Villa and has changed little in the past 20 years. It remains a typical Costa Rican village with just enough grocery stores, bakeries, bars and restaurants to serve the community Here you can make your food purchases as there are two fully equipped kitchens where you can cook at home. A few minutes’ walk from the property is The Rana German Restaurant where you can feast on great food and see a collection of poison dart frogs. There are many great restaurants in Nuevo Arenal where you can enjoy the delicious pizza at Moyas, gourmet food at the Gingerbread, breakfast at Lucky Bug or typical Costa Rican food at Las Delicias or Las Tinejas.

There are many day excursions and great outdoor adventure activities available in the nearby vicinity to be enjoyed if you decide to drag yourself away from the comfortable serene surrounding at the Lakeview Villa. It is one hour drive to La Fortuna which is a warmer tropical climate and a busy central tourist hub. Here you have the opportunity to visit the Arenal Volcano, climb Cerro Chato the dormant volcano, swim in the pool created by the spectacular La Fortuna waterfall, go rafting in the rivers, ride the zip lines or relax in the hot thermal volcanic springs of Tabacon or Baldi Springs. It’s nice to be close to the activities and yet be able to return to the Villa for an escape to the quiet and cooler private rainforest property as you rest and relax after your excursions.

Traveling further west around the lake you can venture to Hotel Tiwala where you can rent equipment for wind surfing which is reputed as one of the best in the world. Further on you can also visit Tilaran and Viento Fresco Falls on the drive to Monteverde which is the most famous Rainforests in Costa Rica. During certain seasons the Quetzal bird can be spotted with its iridescent green and red color and hummingbirds are always abundant in the cloud forest. If you do go to Monteverde be sure to visit Selvatoura butterfly gardens and the zip line adventure which is one of the longest in Costa Rica. This Canopy Tour has 15 cables and 18 platforms and you definitely zip through the canopy. There are also many beaches about 1.5 hours from the house going toward Liberia where you can enjoy the warm waters and surf.

After exploring it is great to get back to the cooler comfort of the house so you can relax for the evening watching the sun set or a movie. There is a large collection of DVD’s for your enjoyment and a television and DVD player upstairs and downstairs.

There are paved roads all the way to the Villa from the Liberia airport (1.5 hour drive ) or the San Jose airport (3.5 hour drive.) No need to negotiate bad roads. Also bus transportation is easily available within minutes of the Villa for the more adventuresome so there is no need for a car.

The local managers of the property are native Costa Ricans Sandy and Michael who are available as needed for suggestions or ideas on how to pass your vacation time. . Come and enjoy your time in Costa Rica at the Costa Rica Lakeview Villa.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay! The property is surrounded by such beautiful nature. We saw so many birds and monkeys! The walk down to the creek with waterfall was amazing – definitely recommend taking a dip in the water. Everything was as described, or better. Mike and Cindy were so genuinely friendly and helpful! They have a tons of information they didn’t hesitate to share. Thank you for all the recommendations and suggestions! If we ever find ourselves back in Costa Rica, this is the place where we’ll be staying. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Great house, great views & wonderful hosts.

Our family of four recently stayed 4 nights at the Lake Arenal guesthouse. It was a perfect setting. The guesthouse has ample space, but we only needed to use the bottom floor. It is well equipped for cooking and has a washer/dryer which is great if you have kids.

The grounds and trails around the property are amazing and make it easy for exploring without having to drive anywhere. Our children, ages 6 &9, loved playing in the natural pools and small waterfall while listening for the howler monkeys. It is a very safe place while being a convenient point from which to explore the Lake Arenal area.

Our hosts, Michael & Sandy were very generous and we enjoyed sharing our common interests. We would definitely return and highly recommend.

What a lovely respite that is good for your soul

My first (but not my last) trip to Lake Arenal, Costa Rica was more then I had even dreamed of. I stayed up in the mountain area in an adorable house the color of the sun, where we could watch the sun go down each evening over the shimmering blue/aqua lake. Every morning I was up early to watch the amazing array of birds flock onto the property. The skies were so blue with fluffy white clouds & I found each day I started out with an open heart filled with the joy that only nature could produce. What better place to meet up with friends, family & loved ones. The peacefulness of the walks around this fantastic property was a healing experience. The trails are well maintained and easy to follow, as you passed pure, clear, springs running everywhere, with water falls & natural pools to sit by or to go into, for an amazing refreshing dip! There are the most gorgeous, iridescent blue butterflies, monkeys & tiny green frogs everywhere to look at, or hear without any danger. The house has all the amenities you are wanting & or needing & more. The times that it rained became a soft blessing, leaving you refreshed & at peace. The quaint town of Lake Arenal had wonderful places to eat, with much diversity & the local fish melted in you mouth. There are open air markets with veggies & coffee grown right there. The newcomers on board included an organic food store & a new organic restaurant, with energetic owners putting their hearts & healing into their food. Everything one would like to do is available, hiking a volcano, swimming in a river by a gorgeous water fall, kayaking or peacefully spending a day at the Hot Springs near by, with delicious food & body work available. If you just like to meditate or read you have found Nirvana, at this location. Most of all the energy in this clean & adorable house is wonderful. The house managers Mike & his lovely wife Sandy make the stay an experience to be remembered. Last but of course not least is, that the truth being told, I fell in love with Costa Rica & the people who live, work, play & reside there. Mahalo's, all around for allowing me to once again, be able to get back in touch with my body, mind & spirit. Enjoy, I know I did! Aloha Eve

This rental is exceptional! It is on such a beautiful property and the home is immaculate! We had a wonderful week. This property is secluded a d if you just want total rest and relaxation, you couldn't ask for more. On the other hand there is lots to do and see. Tinajas Restaurant, overlooking Lake Arenal is great eating and being there for the sunset is spectacular!

Going to Monteverde for the day and going on the Selvatura Zip Line - 15 cables and 18 platforms is truly memorable!

There are many destinations close to this property. I climbed the non-active volcano (Cerro Chato) near La Fortuna. There is a lake you can swim in after you reach the top and go down always. This was a highlight for me!

And you can't beat the price for this lovely accommodation. The owners are lovely people and so easy work with. They want to make your vacation wonderful!

birdwatching at it's finest!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for the great holiday, Glenn! The house and hospitality were phenomenal...we couldn't have asked for more. The house had a stunning view, and there was a tree perch in view that many different birds rested on during our stay. The grounds were amazing - they have really done a lot of work to invite guests to explore nature on their own. I would imagine that kids would love this place (and the inner kids in us loved it!)! Glenn gave us great info on places to visit - including Selvatoura (where we saw the Quetzal), and some yummy local restaurants, and he genuinely hoped that we had a good time. My mom, my boyfriend, and I were only there for a few days...our only regret is that we didn't stay longer!

Getaway in Paradise

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and we were not dissappointed. Arenal Lakeview Villa is situated up on a hillside so we had a lovely view of the lake and the spectacular sunsets every evening. The cooler temperatures are most welcome. This property is so beautiful that we were somewhat reluctant to venture out but nothing was too far away. The friendly town of New Arenal is a short 10 minutes away, Arenal Volcano, the Hanging Bridges and La Fortuna are 30-45 minutes away.
