Beautiful, comfortable, clean property that accommodated my family of 5 well. Gorgeous views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal volcano. This is a great spot if you are a birder! I'm not able to provide a 5-star rating because we chose the listing based on the availability of a pool (we have young children and a pool provides excellent entertainment on slow days). The listing contains 5 separate mentions of "pool" or "community pool." When we arrived our host, Bev, informed us that the pool was under construction and unavailable. I encourage Bev to update her listing to accurately reflect the property's amenities.

This house was located in a beautiful area with a beautiful view of lake Arenal and volcano. We thought the house was located closer to activities but once we arrived we realized due to road conditions and road construction we had to drive 1:30 plus mins to get to Arenal excursions. There wasn’t much around where the house was and the road to get to the home was awful. I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the home. The fronts of the kitchen cabinets were stained and dirty. The whole kitchen needed a good deep clean. The toilets were also dirty. The showers had spiders and cob webs in them. It was clear the house had sat empty for a while. The house also needed to be stocked better. It was bare bones. Even though we loved the views we would not stay here again on future visits. If I feel like I need to clean a rental before I can comfortably stay in it, I won’t come back.
This house was really a gem, well equipped and surrounded by nature. Just be SURE to rent a 4WD vehicle, as there are many steep and winding dirt roads to access the property with huge potholes and ruts. We knew about this area but if you have never been there be prepared for an off-road experience. Lots of birds and beauty make the effort worthwhile. Friendly and helpful caretakers. We had a lovely time:)
What an amazing property and community. Beyond relaxing, breathtaking views, and Bev (seems to be the Mayor of the Vistas ) is just fantastic. We didn’t get in until very late, beyond our projected time, and she still ensured our check-in was smooth and seamless. She can provide great recommendations too, if anything is needed. Such a wonderful find!! Thank you Bev and the community that seems like family.
Vistas Del Lago is a great community with an amazing view of Lake Arenal and the mountain. The house was as presented on line, nice accommodation for 6, though there were only 4 of us. Our only issues resulted from late season rain and storms -- unreliable internet and washed out roads/landslides.

We had such a relaxing stay. Can not wait to return. The views of the lake and volcano are breathtaking and the sounds of wildlife are so peaceful while drinking coffee on the balcony.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous place! The home was spacious and welcoming, the neighborhood is friendly, safe, and fun. Taking in the the colorful and constantly changing view was just fantastic. We will be back to Vistas!
Gorgeous lake views! Beautiful property!
Great stay here! Beautiful home well equipped. Enjoyed hiking in area and very much appreciated help with booking excursions. Wonderful breakfasts here and particularly enjoyed the recommended Gingerbread Restaurant. It was a fantastic dining experience! Thank you Bev and Brad!

Everything at this property was wonderful. I traveled here with my husband and two little kids and we had three bedrooms to spread out and sleep well, and the house had everything we needed-- towels, extra bedding, and everything in the kitchen to cook our own food if we didn't feel like venturing out. The property is lovely, the views are breathtaking, and Bev and her staff are incredibly kind and helpful. This part of Costa Rica has very tricky dirt roads, so that's my only complaint, but it's not the fault of the property! Just be sure to do your shopping or go out to eat BEFORE you venture up the hill to the house.
The house at Vistas del Lago is beautiful. It is roomy, spacious and very well equipped to hold the six of us. The views out the balcony were stunning with birds and flowers all around.
One must have a good SUV vehicle to get in and out of the community and to be able to explore the lake, the Cloud Forest and everything else around. Potholes abound so be sure to give yourselves time to get places.
This is a very special place - well worth the stay. Thank you Brad and Bev, your hospitality and kindness were appreciated.
Great views, beautiful house ! This is a gated expat community. If you want the feel of authentic Costa Rica, maybe this isn't for you. It's a bit far away from most tourist activities, it is in close proximity of Tronadora by rough gravel road. The house and property was very nice with a friendly little community. There was a couple issues with our house. The toilet paper wasn't stocked, and the alarm had a code in it so it kept beeping through the night and we had to keep getting up to clear it. This seemed to resolve itself on its own in a couple days. The host was great and very helpfull when we needed anything. Overall a nice place to stay, but we might choose a different area next time.
Our family has rented many homes over the years and this was the best. It all starts with the developers Brad and Bev who had a vision of privacy, security, and nature. They could have built 4 times the number of homes in the community but decided that everyone should have their own space. You are not alone though. The community also has a shared centre where you can swim, workout and have a meal with other members of the community.
The land Brad and Bev selected to build on is absolutely stunning. We woke up in the morning to one of the best views we have ever seen. A lush garden, lake and volcano are right outside the house. The view is also filled with a wide range of birds. I can’t tell you how many times we just looked out with a pair of binoculars to see what the sky would bring. Monkeys and toucans have made Vistas Del Lago their home as well.
The house has everything you need for a family. It has 3 good-sized bedrooms with very comfortable beds. The kitchen has what you need if you decide you want to stay in and enjoy the views. The shower was even better than expected. Having our own washer and dryer is a huge plus. A fresh coat of paint would make a world of difference.
There is a true community vibe. Residents and guests are all very nice and made us feel welcome. One of the community members offered to bring us to pickleball. When I said I didn’t have shoes or a racquet he followed up by saying it wasn’t a problem and would ask around to some friends for extra equipment. Other people in the community were also very helpful when it came to our questions on restaurants or activities. You are sure to make friends at Vistas Del Lago.
Most of the activities are in La Fortuna which is about 1.5 hours away. Just keep that in mind when you are planning your vacation. Winding roads and steep hills are everywhere in the area. You do get used to it after a few days. A 4x4 is highly reccommended.
Be sure to get a massage from Carolina. We have only had a few in our lives but she is the best and is surprisingly very affordable.
Brad and Bev have built something very special here. I don’t think you will find its equal in Costa Rica. Vistas Del Lago has the unique ability to please both those who are looking for privacy and those who want to be with other people. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you to Brad and Bev who made this vacation one we will never forget. We are already planning on when we can return to Vistas Del Lago!
This house was absolutely amazing! From the moment we arrived, it felt like visiting a favorite aunt’s home—warm, welcoming, and impeccably clean. The attention to detail was fantastic, with everything stocked—plenty of pots and pans, towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, games, blankets for the couch, and even a TV with all the streaming apps ready to go.The property itself is stunning, with beautiful grounds and breathtaking views. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly, adding to the overall charm of the stay. Be aware that a small part of the road to get there is a bit bumpy, but it’s well worth it once you arrive. Spectacular! This was easily one of my favorite VRBO stays. The property manager was top-notch—responsive, helpful, and truly A1. I only wish I could’ve stayed longer! Highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a peaceful and well-appointed getaway.
The road leading to the property is very rough and would recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle. But the property is well worth the drive. Bev, the manager, was delightful and did everything possible to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The Casa and the grounds were beautiful with amazing views and lots of wildlife.
We met some of the residents and other guests at the clubhouse and they were all friendly and very welcoming.
We highly recommend the clubhouse breakfasts that are available a few times a week. Super delicious and a great opportunity to chat with others about the Arenal area.
We hope to be back again soon!
We had an amazing stay at this location. The views were fantastic and the space was laid out really well. The master had what we called a sitting shower vs regular, but we had guessed as much from the pictures. The breakfast that was available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays was very good and a great way to start the day. We saw so many hummingbirds we lost count and were visited by toucans as well right in the yard! It is conveniently located from the airport and easily accessible; however, if you plan to explore the area towards Monte Verde I would recommend 4-wheel drive or at least a vehicle higher off the ground with good traction (not necessary unless you are going to that area as the house itself is perfectly accessible). Bev was super friendly, helpful, and accessible for any needs we might have. There are a couple of little towns near with excellent little restaurants and a grocery store available. We highly recommend this location!!
Beautiful sunrises overlooking the lake and volcano. A few rainbows over the lake as well. Everyone of the people we met were friendly. Very comfortable setting.
The manager, Bev, greeted with a warm smile and that set the tone for our experience! She was always so helpful and kind. The house is amazing! The pictures don't do it justice. We have rented a lot of homes when traveling, but there are few that really give you that comfortable homey feeling. This one does that. Everything was there that we needed. If we were to come back to this area, we would definitely stay at this house.

About the host
Hosted by Bev Sheatz
My husband and I raised four wonderful sons who are now young adults scattered across the United States pursuing their careers. We wanted a place in a tropical paradise where everyone couldn't wait to come for family reunions, and this place is perfect! We learned that there are nonstop flights to Liberia from Los Angeles, Denver, Charlotte, New York City, Houston, Miami, etc,. so it would make it easier for friends and family to get together. Our family loves to laugh, experience the world, and, most of all, have FUN!! Bev, the owner of Vistas del Lago, is a wealth of information and gave us a list of incredible adventures for us to enjoy in the area. We've already had our first family reunion there. (Those are two of my sons holding a toucan for the first time in my Owner Photo.) There are so many more adventures Bev has told us about (like the waterfall tour on horseback and riding the catamaran on Lake Arenal), that we can't wait to go back!
Why they chose this property
My close friend invited me to her house in Vistas del Lago. She had shown me photos of the property, but, when I saw it in person, it took my breath away. All of the other owners and vacationers who shared this gorgeous vacation community were over-the-top nice and welcoming to all guests. The timing was perfect, because one couple was retiring to Houston, and had just put this house up for sale. I called my husband (who agreed to buy it, sight unseen), purchased the property on the spot, and vowed to share this gorgeous piece of the Earth with other travelers. Since then, I introduced this place to my husband and sons. We ALL love this place!! There's so much to do in Costa Rica, but, when I travel, my family's safety is paramount. The night time and weekend security guards are wonderful, and the water was so pure, we could drink it straight from the faucet. I have not bought a single bottle of water in Costa Rica yet!!
What makes this property unique
Vistas del Lago is by far the most beautiful place I have ever seen. This property has banana trees, mango trees, avocado trees, orange trees, and many other fruit trees. Everyone shares the bounty of the Earth as it comes into season. There is a giant herb garden right outside the kitchen. Weekly renters are welcomed like family, and there are owners from France, Canada, Poland, etc. Bev, the owner and manager of Vistas, is one of the kindest and most welcoming people I have ever met. She lives there full-time, and her husband Brad made a trail through the rain forest that leads to a Jack-and-the-Beanstalk tree. People enjoy walking on this trail with their children or grandchildren and viewing monkeys and toucans. This is all behind the private gates of Vistas del Lago, so I always felt safe and protected, which is so important when visiting a foreign country.
