First of all, I have rented numerous log cabins and this was by far the most beautifully constructed log cabin Iâve stayed in. I am a huge fan of rustic-but-luxurious cabins, and this fit the bill. Also, one of, if not the best, mountain views of a home we have stayed at. Old Rag Mountain is the centerpiece through the expansive windows of the home. The downstairs was where we spent much of our time, centered around the sunken fireplace, as well as the table games. Also, the main outdoor fire pit is featured around a massive inground natural rock formation, which was really cool. Second, the downside. Although the âbugsâ are mentioned in the listing, the amount of ladybugs, fruit flies, and, to a lesser extent, stink bugs, were a significant issue. I have been to plenty of mountain properties, and while these bugs are a common pest, none have had such a similar problem of infiltration inside the home as this property. Log cabins have natural seams which are filled upon building and will expand and contract, so I understand the presence of some bugs. However, the amount of these insects in the home was more than expected or necessary. Upon arrival, hundreds of dead ladybugs, houseflies and stink bugs littered the windowsills and the floor around the walls. Meals were a task of shooing away fruit flies. Screened-in porch was unusable due to cuts in the screens. If the owner invested resources into sealing the home and porch to mitigate this, we would return every year.
