Enjoy the serenity and solitude of this well-appointed vacation home. Nestled in a wooded lot a block away from the lakefront, and a three block walk to a beautiful, private Lake Michigan beach, it's the perfect get-away. The property is surrounded by woods and gardens with secluded deck and hot tub, in a private gated community. Because the beach is private, there are no closing times, you can have a bonfire or walk your dog on the beach. It is also one of the most accessible beaches in the area, you can walk or drive and park right at the beach, no stairs.

Three bedrooms, plus sleeper sofa, two full baths, it sleeps eight people (6 adults max). Master suite on the first floor has a queen size bed, perfect for the senior members of the family. Large bedroom on second floor is set up for kids and families with a trundle and queen size bed in one room. The third bedroom has a queen.

The interior is tastefully appointed with two wood-burning fireplaces, an open floor plan and plenty of space. The living room has a lot of natural light and access to the deck. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking, and there's a gas grill on the deck. There's also a washer and dryer, and central air conditioning.

The house is in a quiet, beach association neighborhood. There are tennis courts and a park for viewing the sunset. Several world-class golf courses are within minutes of Glenn Haven Shores.

Near the country town of Glenn, it’s just 10 minutes from the shopping, dining, culture and activities in Saugatuck/Douglas and South Haven. It's also near the wineries, breweries, ciders and orchards of Fennville. 20 minutes from Holland, MI if you are looking for more shopping and dining. About Mary Lukens

My husband, daughter and I live in the charming town of Douglas, just 10 minutes from the rental property. We moved from the city of Chicago in 2002 and have loved every minute of living in this area. Because we are now 'locals' feel free to ask questions and get recommendations on what do while you visit. Happy Travels!

Mary Lukens purchased this house in 2002

Why Mary Lukens chose Southwest

We fell in love with the lakefront from South Haven to Saugatuck when we were residents of Kalamazoo many years ago. In the interim we moved to Chicago, and as much as we loved the city, we missed the peace, quiet and beauty of this area. We hoped to build a vacation home and searched for many years for the perfect location. We found Glenn Haven Shores to have the best beach in the area and bought a lot in the early 90s. We were lucky enough to be able to move here permanently and bought this vacation house in 2002.

What makes this house unique

It's all about the private beach. It's shared with the other members of our association, but there's always plenty of room to spread out. In the off-season and during the week, there's a pretty good chance you will have the beach to yourself. It's also very accessible to seniors and small children in that you can drive down and park right at the beach. Most beaches in this area are only accessible with hundreds of stairs. A problem if you forget something once you get down there!

You can also build a campfire on the beach and roast marshmallows with the family. This is the unique benefit of the private beach.

The other thing we enjoy is how quiet and dark it is. On a clear night you can sit in the hot tub and see stars forever.

Lovely beach

  • 5 of 5

We loved the very private beach. Do bring beach shoes - there are rocks as you get into the water. But it is worth it to have a beach all to yourself. The house is everything you could want. Comfy furniture, good beds, and well-stocked kitchen. I would recommend this location.

Wonderful time with the whole family

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time visiting the area and staying in the home. We had 8 altogether, but did not feel crowded. The hot tub, fire pit and back yard area was nice. We did miss having a dishwasher, but it kept the men busy! We also wished the beach was closer, as we had small children with us. All in all, a great vacation!

Nice spacious home in a quiet, secluded neighborhood

  • 5 of 5

I was very pleased with the home we stayed in as it was very comfortable, quiet, and spacious. I was thrilled that it had a hot tub, was pet friendly, and had access to a private beach. It was close to South Haven and Saugatuck which was an added bonus. I will be staying here again as it had everything that we needed and then some including a washer/dryer. It was also very clean and had wi-fi, along with a supply of board games to use on rainy days/nights. I was also very pleased with the great communication that the owner offered when I had questions. She would reply in a very timely manner. I highly recommend staying there as we wanted a nice relaxing getaway and that is exactly what we got with our fur-kids in tow!!!!

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a place within close proximity to Saugatuck, Douglas, and South Haven, this home is in the perfect location! We easily found our way around to everything we wanted to see and it only took about 15 minutes to drive.

This home looks even better in person than in the pictures. It is beautifully furnished and decorated and having a hot tub, fireplace, and fire pit all added to our comfort and enjoyment. Mary is very responsive and helpful and it was a pleasure communicating with her and planning our special weekend. Thanks again Mary!!!

Cozy house--perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

My brother and sisters and I try to get away together every year at our late mother's birthday time. We want comfort, privacy, and space. This house was perfect for us. In a gated rural community near the Lake Michigan shore, we were able to enjoy an outdoor fire pit, sit in a lovely hot tub as snowflakes floated down, paint and jigsaw puzzle on a large table in a roomy dining area with fireplace, watch movies in front of another fireplace in a comfortable living room overlooking a woodsy yard, and laugh to our hearts' content without worry of disturbing anyone. In fact, except for one jogger, we didn't see another person.

The kitchen is well-appointed and it is a good thing we brought a trunkful of food and drink because the nearest town is a bit of a distance away. There is really no need to leave the house. We recommend this property and would love to return in the summer sometime.
