Enjoy the serenity and solitude of this well-appointed vacation home. Nestled in a wooded lot a block away from the lakefront, and a three block walk to a beautiful, private Lake Michigan beach, it's the perfect get-away. The lakefront is on a bluff in this area, but this is one of the most accessible beaches and largest association beaches in the area. You can walk (it’s down a ravine) or drive and park right at the beach, no stairs. Because the beach is private, there are no closing times, you can have a bonfire or walk your dog on the beach. The property is surrounded by woods and gardens with a secluded deck and hot tub, in a private gated community.
Three bedrooms, plus sleeper sofa, two full baths, it sleeps eight people (6 adults max). Master suite on the first floor has a queen size bed, perfect for the senior members of the family. Large bedroom on second floor is set up for kids and families with a trundle and queen size bed in one room. The third bedroom has a queen. The house is kid-friendly, and comes with a portable crib and high chair. There are also lots of games, toys and books.
The interior has two wood-burning fireplaces, an open floor plan and plenty of space. The living room has a lot of natural light and access to the deck. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking, and there's a gas grill on the deck. There's also a washer and dryer, and central air conditioning.
The house is in a quiet, association neighborhood with a shared beach. There are tennis courts and a park for viewing the sunset. Several world-class golf courses are within minutes of Glenn Haven Shores.
Near the country town of Glenn, it’s just 10 minutes from the shopping, dining, culture and activities in Saugatuck/Douglas and South Haven. It's also near the wineries, breweries, ciders and orchards of Fennville. 20 minutes from Holland, MI if you are looking for more shopping and dining. An easy two to two and a half hour drive from the Chicago Loop, and less than three hours from Metro Detroit. Only 45 minutes from Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo.

About Mary Lukens
My husband, daughter and I live in the charming town of Douglas, just 10 minutes from the rental property. We moved from the city of Chicago in 2002 and have loved every minute of living in this area. Because we are now 'locals' feel free to ask questions and get recommendations on what do while you visit. Happy Travels!
Mary Lukens purchased this House in 2002
Why Mary Lukens chose Casco
We fell in love with the lakefront from South Haven to Saugatuck when we were residents of Kalamazoo many years ago. In the interim we moved to Chicago, and as much as we loved the city, we missed the peace, quiet and beauty of this area. We hoped to build a vacation home and searched for many years for the perfect location. We found Glenn Haven Shores to have the best beach in the area and bought a lot in the early 90s. We were lucky enough to be able to move here permanently and bought this vacation house in 2002.
What makes this House unique
It's all about the private beach. It's shared with the other members of our association, but there's always plenty of room to spread out. In the off-season and during the week, there's a pretty good chance you will have the beach to yourself. It's also very accessible to seniors and small children in that you can drive down and park right at the beach. Most beaches in this area are only accessible with hundreds of stairs. A problem if you forget something once you get down there! You can also build a campfire on the beach and roast marshmallows with the family. This is the unique benefit of the private beach. The other thing we enjoy is how quiet and dark it is. On a clear night you can sit in the hot tub and see stars forever.

The house was very nice and comfortable. The beach was a 2-minute drive away. The backyard was a bit less secluded than I was hoping, but it was early in the season and there were no leaves on the trees yet. We had a blast hanging out on the beach with our dog, a bonfire, some beers, and a couple good books :-)
Good location between South Haven and Saugutuck. Beach within walking distance.
House was the perfect size for our group of 6 adults. We love that our dogs were allowed in the house too! We cooked some and the kitchen had everything we needed. The only down side was I thought the beach would be in the backyard. Although the beach was within walking distance (around 10 mins), there was a steep hill that you had to walk down in order to get to the beach.
Wonderful Lake Michigan Vacation House
Very private location with lots to due in the area. Was stocked with everything we needed. Extremely clean. We had 5 adults and there was plenty of room. Would highly recommend.
The front yard was completely overgrown , including poison ivy. You could hardly see the house. The deck was not much and there was no table (except for a small one, of awkward height) for dining outside. The water in the hot tub did not look clean...
It was the worst house in a nice neighborhood, which made it even tougher to take after driving past so many nice homes. It was very, very dim inside even with all lights on. Shower water pressure was weak.
The park was a 10x10 patch of land with a bench in the middle.
No easy access from the house to the beach..which they needed to be clearer on the fact that it was non existent.
Two plusses - Beautiful sunsets and comfortable beds. That's it.
Sorry you were not happy with our house. I feel that the photos accurately show the deck and the outdoor areas. We have a wooded, natural lot, it's definitely not for people looking for manicured lawns. Although there is lawn in the back.
We have a map that shows the proximity to the beach and have warned our renters the water is high and the beach is not great this year, we lost 30-40 feet of sand. This has occurred only twice since we've owned property there in 27 years and it's impossible for us to know beach conditions in advance.
The hot tub is cleaned weekly and is most definitely well taken care of. If there's any residue in the hot tub, it's from chemicals that haven't dissolved.
I think our overall rating over 4.75 stars is a better indicator of the condition of the property, it is most definitely not neglected.
Great spot for family break with adult children. Homey, comfortable, convenient. Nice escape.
We cook a lot and the kitchen could use some TLC for the price. Otherwise, we enjoyed hiking to the beach, using the fireplace, hot-tubbing under the stars. Nice laid-back dog friendly neighborhood close enough to town and woodsy enough for deer. We would definitely return (with a chef's knife). Good spot for grandkids.
Perfect weekend getaway!
I stayed at this location with my girlfriend and parents to celebrate life and my girlfriends 30th birthday. This weekend changed our lives for the best! The wood burning fireplaces, the speakers, and the hot tub were awesome!
Also, the sky!!! I've been to the Dark Sky Park in Mackinaw. I've also been to Mexico with very little light pollution. Nothing compared to the sky we all experienced while staying at this location! I can only imagine how this place is during the summer! The kitchen had everything we needed as well. We didn't think to turn on the tv because we didn't need it.
Glenn is a small, charming town situated between the Harbor and tourist towns of Saugatuck and South Haven. The area is known for it's beaches and water activities like swimming, boating, sail boarding, and fishing. The surrounding countryside is known for it's orchards and vineyards. The area is one of the largest fruit growing areas in the country, especially blueberries, apples, and peaches. There are also numerous wineries, breweries and cider mills, making agri-tourism a huge part of the local economy. You will also find the drive between South Haven and Saugatuck is full of antique stores and art galleries. Saugatuck has been an artists' enclave for 150 years.
